A WORD FROM THE PASTOR First of all, a very happy and hearty congratulations to all of our First Communicants! Even though First Communions happened five months later than we had planned, it was still a joyous occasion and our young brothers and sisters were so happy to be there. They and their families were a great example of patient
waiting for all of us. We also could not have asked for a better day in terms of weather. God truly smiled on these boys and girls as they received the Lord for the first time in the Eucharist!
I would like to extend a personal word of thanks to all in our Religious Education program and at Pope Francis Global Academy who prepared our First Communicants. Their example of self-giving is itself a lesson in what it means to be a disciple, and I am so very grateful for their generosity and care. I also want to thank all the families of our First Communicants who are the first teachers of their children in the ways of faith. In prayers before meals, in conversations on the way to school, in casual acts of kindness, in bringing them to Mass, you have laid a foundation of faith for your children that will be the stable platform upon which they build their futures. Thank you for passing on the most precious gift we have!
In October we will hold our Confirmations and I look forward to this special moment of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This, too, is coming a few months later than expected but it also comes with a special blessing. The Archdiocese has given all pastors permission to perform the Confirmations this year and so I have the great honor of being able to confer this sacrament upon the young men and women of this parish. I cannot wait!
Finally, our Renew My Church team continues to process your feedback and meet with our larger grouping to continue the conversations around our future. This past week we were able to take a deeper look at all four parish facilities and get a better picture of how these buildings might serve our future needs. I ask that you continue to pray for our team, parish, and grouping as we continue this challenging yet rewarding work. Know that we truly have your best interests and concerns at heart.

SACRAMENTAL CELEBRATIONS
The celebration of the sacraments is one of the most important gifts that we have, and we look forward to sharing these celebrations with those who are part of our community. Therefore, please note the following: INFANT BAPTISMS: Registration in the parish is a prerequisite. Parents are required to attend a Pre-Baptismal Preparation Session with the celebrant two months prior to the Baptism either in person or Zoom. Arrangements can be made at the Parish Office.
RECONCILIATION: Every Saturday at 9:00 AM
SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY: Either the bride, the groom, or the parent of either must be a registered and active parishioner for at least six months before contacting us to make any arrangements. Allow at least six months to complete wedding arrangements. Arrangements can be made at the Parish Office by the bride and groom.
SACRAMENT OF THE SICK: Anytime a person is facing a serious illness, surgery or hospitalization, it is proper to receive the Sacrament of the Sick. Please contact the parish office. If the office is closed please leave a message on a priest’s voicemail.
GLUTEN FREE HOSTS: Saint Pascal wishes all who are properly disposed to be able to receive the host at Communion time, and join with the others in our parish family without the fear of becoming ill. If you would like to receive a gluten free host, please add your request to the comment on the Mass Reservation sign up form so the priest is aware of your request
MINISTRY OF CARE - HOMEBOUND PARISHIONERS: Please notify the parish office if you know of someone who is unable to join us at Mass and would appreciate having the Eucharist brought to their home. Our Ministers of Care bring Holy Communion to those who are sick and homebound, when conditions permit. During the present health crisis we may not be allowed access to visit people in hospitals or rehabilitation centers, depending on the rules and restrictions of the individual facility, but our prayers go out to all of our parish family during these trying times.
Cancellation of Mass is leading to significant losses in our offertory
income, which is placing all our ministries and operations at significant risk. Many people in our parish and community depend upon your regular, weekly offertory contributions and, during this current challenge, they are needed more than ever. We ask you to prayerfully consider maintaining your regular weekly donation level or even increasing it during these times.
Please consider giving online at GiveCentral.org where you can make a weekly
offertory contribution to our Saint Pascal Church family and keep the vital ministries and services we provide going. You can use this website to make paperless donations to our church by using your credit card, debit card and electronic checking payments making either one-time or recurring donations. To access this site, please click on “donate” at www.stpascal.org and take a few minutes to set up your donation. If you would like to talk to a live person, please call (312) 929-2306.
Please Note….
Saint Pascal’s Parish Office is open from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday through Friday.
However, due to restrictions resulting from COVID-19, we ask that visitors call the office (773-725-7641) to schedule an appointment prior to visiting the office.

RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR ATTENDANCE AT SUNDAY MASS
We are so grateful to be able to attend Mass again! This privilege is offered with a limit to the maximum number of people who can be in the church at one time. We must maintain records for the Illinois Department of Public Health of all who enter our churches for the purposes of contact tracing if and when a confirmed case of COVID–19 is identified.
Attendance is limited and reservations are necessary to attend Sunday Mass with sign up through SignUpGenius.com. A specific link is posted on our website. You do not need to have an account with this website to register for Mass, but you will be asked for your name, phone number, and email. Your registration will be recorded on our reservation list and you will be checked in at the door.
CHURCH IS OPEN Following Archdiocesan COVID-19 guidelines, Saint Pascal Church has reopened on a limited basis.
Worshipers are required to wear masks, and practice social distancing staying six feet apart from one another. Please enter the church from the south Melvina Street door
(nearest the rectory) and exit through the Dakin Street door. Those with mobility issues may enter and exit through the Dakin Street door. Please follow instructions from ushers and greeters.
For Saint Pascal to continue to safely conduct approved church services, we need volunteers:
To greet people at the door and instruct them on the protocols for being in church (no fever, wearing face coverings, using hand sanitizer, keeping social distance, etc.)
To usher people to seats, direct the flow of people during the service, and ensure people leave through the proper exit
To clean the church after services end and everyone has left.
Of course, many hands make light work. The more people who volunteer, the less any one person would have to do. Training and all necessary supplies will be provided. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, and those 65 and older should make sure they feel well enough to help. To volunteer, please sign up online on the parish website or call the parish office (773-725-7641).

SOCIETY OF SAINT VINCENT DEPAUL SAINT PASCAL CONFERENCE
We all put off to the eleventh hour some piece of work that we should do, with respect to God. or each other. This parable teaches us about how great and generous God is, and how we are called to that same level of greatness and generosity. Wouldn’t the world be different if hurtful behavior ceased and was forgiven generously? Wouldn’t individuals be different if we measured others only by their goodness? The landowner says to his grumbling laborers, “Are you envious because I am generous?” God’s generosity with us goes far beyond any measurement by human standards.
Pope Francis Tweet Nature is filled with words of love, but how can we listen to them amid constant noise, and interminable and nerve-wracking distractions?
PRAYER FOR RENEW MY CHURCH Lord Jesus, you speak to us today, as you spoke to holy men and women who have gone before us. In every age and in our own time, you call to us and say: Renew My Church.
Pour out the gift of your Holy Spirit upon us, and so enable us to hear you clearly, to listen to each other attentively, to imagine our future boldly, to discern your direction wisely, to persevere in your holy will courageously, to stay together in charity, to surrender our own plans readily, to embrace the greater good, to hand on your gifts to future generations.
May we remain in the holy company of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the apostles, and all the saints. May their example and presence inspire us with patient confidence in the work of your grace.
We ask this of you who live and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen
Donations of non-perishable food for the Saint Vincent de Paul pantry may be placed in the blue barrel near the exit door of the church. Cash donations may be placed in an envelope marked "Saint Vincent de Paul" and deposited either in the secure black mail box at the rectory or in the candle donation boxes in the church. During these difficult times our work goes on and we appreciate your continued support.
Donations of bagged gently used clothing and accessories such as shoes, handbags and useable linens may be placed in the SVDP drop boxes located at Saint Tarcissus Church, 6020 W. Ardmore and Our Lady Mother of the Church, 8747 W. Lawrence. If you or someone you know has items to donate but cannot transport them, please call the parish office and a member of SVDP will contact you to arrange a drop-off.

Witnesses to the Civilization of Love Rainbow and Cross Reminder of the Way
Renew My Church
As we begin the process of ‘renew my church”, will we bring about real renewal, reform, and purification to our way of being Church? Pope Francis speaks to how we can understand real reform, “The heart of Christ is the heart of a God who, out of love, ‘emptied’ himself…”
“For Francis, reform is rooted in this emptiness of self, which he recognizes in one of the New Testament passages he loves most and quotes often: Philippians 2:6-11. There is the true reform. If it were not so, if it were only an idea, an ideal project, the fruit of one’s own desires, even good ones, it would become yet another ideology of
change. The reform would be an ideology with a vaguely zealous character. And yes, like all ideologies it would have to be feared by those who do not support it. It would be at the mercy of the disillusionment of those who have their own agenda in mind. The reform that Francis has in mind works if “emptied” of such worldly reasoning. It is the opposite of the ideology of change.” Antonio Spadaro, SJ
Each of us is called to empty herself/himself; to be ‘emptied’ beings, to be people who are not centered on self because the center of the Parish is Christ.
Can we give up our ideas, set aside our best proposals as we dialogue with each other to find the best way for us as Church to give honor and glory to God?

September 8 is the Feast of the Birth of Our Lady, exactly nine months after the Feast of the Immaculate Conception which we celebrated last December 8. Fifty-four days after September 8 the Church will celebrate All Saints Day on November 1. With everything going on in the
world and in the Church right now, this will be a good moment to pray a 54-day Rosary Novena "For the Needs of the Church and the Nation." I would be grateful if you sign up to take this journey with us, and I hope you and your family can join us each evening at 7:00 PM for this Novena during the Family Rosary Across America®. (You may recite the rosary any time during the day to participate in the Novena. ) In addition to the daily Rosary during this Novena, as part of your sign-up you will receive a Daily Teaching Minute from me in your inbox beginning tomorrow. I've composed these Daily Teaching Minutes to focus on the 55 titles of Our Lady in her Litany (also known as the Litany of Loreto). From them, you will learn more about the richness of our Faith and the powerful intercession of Our Lady, who is "Mary at the Crossroads of History."
I look forward to praying with you over the next 54 days. The Church and the nation need our prayers so that peace and unity may prevail! Thank you for joining us,
Father Francis Hoffman
