FROM THE PASTOR’S

DESK….

Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise.” Martha said to him, “I know he will rise, in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die…” (from today’s Gospel) The story of Lazarus is meant to show us the greatness of God’s power, ultimately over even life and death. There is no doubt that Lazarus is dead. Rabbinical teaching was that the spirit could be in the proximity of the body for up to three days, but no longer than that. Lazarus is in the tomb four days, and it is only God’s action that could restore life at that point. The season of Lent is a time for us to prepare to unite ourselves with and celebrate the Lord’s Resurrection. From what are we rising? If we have been sincere about our Lenten journey we have found areas in our lives that need to die so that we can join in the new life of the risen Lord. God has the power to bring healing and life when we are willing to die to our pride, selfishness, greed, arrogance, prejudice, blindness, etc. The Lord desires that we have life and have it fully. As we enter the last weeks of Lent we still have the opportunity to work with God’s grace for this change of heart. We can die to the sin in our lives and truly celebrate the power of the Resurrection in our lives. As I write this, I have just read the order from the Governor in regards to gathering for Mass and other services. Since his order is effective until April 24th our Holy Week and Easter celebrations will not be celebrated publicly. Some have encouraged me to break the rules and to start having Masses again. I am not willing to do that at this time. In light of the lack of public Masses I have an important request to make of you, please remember that the parish, like you and your family, still has bills to pay, and we could really use your support during this time. Although public Palm Sunday Masses will not be allowed, I intend to bless palms and have them available as a “drive-up” to pick up option on Sunday April 12th from 8 – 11 AM. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please remember in your prayer to ask for God’s help and guidance during this time of crisis. God’s blessing to you all – Fr. Mark

A PRAYER OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION Jesus, really present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the altar, since I cannot now receive thee under the sacramental veil, I beseech thee, with a heart full of love and longing, to come spiritually into my soul through the Immaculate Heart of thy most Holy Mother, and to abide with me, thou in me, and I in thee, in time and in eternity. Amen.

HELPING HANDS RUMMAGE SALE UPDATE As many of you know, Helping Hands has sponsored an annual Memorial Day Rummage Sale as a fundraiser for the past 6 years. For a number of reasons, HH will not be holding the rummage sale this year. However, we do expect to resume the rummage sale next year. If there are any parish organizations which may want to take on the rummage sale as a fundraiser this Memorial Day, please contact Diane Hamilton (262 370 2158). If you have been saving items for the rummage sale, we suggest that you consider donating them to Circle of Friends in Elkhorn or Love Inc, in Burlington. Both of these organizations have a mission of working with people in need. We just want to thank our fellow parishioners who have supported this rummage sale for the past 6 years by donating items, or working on the rummage sale with the HH team. We look forward to seeing you at our HH Memorial Day Rummage sale next year, May 2021.

Please note that Tuesday Eucharistic Adoration is

CANCELLED.

Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available as usual on Saturday afternoons at 4:00 pm. Please be respectful and practice social distancing.

The church will be open for private prayer

as usual on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays from approximately 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. The church will also be open on Sundays from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm

Mary’s Garden Group of St. Peter’s is looking to grow our cluster of gardeners, weed pullers, waterers, planters, idea inputters and Jesus praisers. We’re getting together soon to

discuss our spring and summer activities and would love anyone interested to join in the conversation. Interested in learning more about this casual and friendly group of worshipers? Please call Tracey at 642-4232 or email at [email protected].

LENTEN REMINDERS Customarily, fasting require one to take a main meal and two lesser meals

which together do not equal the main meal. All adults are bound by the law of fast

from their 18th to their 60th year. All persons who have reached their 14th birth-day are bound by the law of abstinence.

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of abstinence from meat and

meat products as well as days of fast. The other Fridays of Lent remain days of abstinence from meat and meat

products.

Piggly Wiggly Receipts The end of 1st quarter (January, February, and March) is quickly approaching. Please turn in those Frank's receipts so they can be added up and turned into Frank's. Thank you for your effort in this fundraiser. PLEASE DROP THEM OFF IN THE BLACK LOCK BOX AT THE MAIN ENTRANCE OF THE PARISH OFFICE.

The CDC and the WHO recommend several basic measures to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects. Stay home when you are sick. Contact a health worker if you have symptoms; fever and a dry cough are most common. DON’T touch your face. DON’T travel if you have a fever and cough. DON’T wear a face mask if you are well.

In this time of unrest and “social distancing,” I encourage you to rest in Jesus not keep your distance from Him! How can you grow closer to him throughout this time? How can you invite others to grow closer to Him? We, our families, friends, parishioners, and neighbors, are all in need of the true rest that only He possesses. We encourage our parish to pray a devotion from their homes at a specific time every day (Rosary at 5:00pm every day).

Two Sunday Masses at the Cathedral will still be celebrated but without an assembly. The 9 a.m. Mass is available on Radio 920 AM, WOLF, and the 11 a.m. Mass is live-streamed on the Cathedral website. Other TV Masses are available on WVTV, My24 at 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., and on WITI Fox 6, at 5:30 a.m

Please note that your messages will still be answered at the Parish Office. Please e-mail us at [email protected] or you could leave a message at 642-7225. If your need is urgent please call 642-7225, extension 4. This will give instructions on how to reach Father Mark.

Did you know that medical HIPPA laws prevent hospitals from

calling the patient’s priests? Years ago, the hospital would call

your parish to let them know that you were hospitalized. Not any

longer. If you have a loved one hospitalized and they need

prayers or the Sacrament of the Sick, please call the Parish Office

and let Father Mark know. Also, if you have an upcoming

surgery and would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick

beforehand, let Father Mark know that also. The Sacrament is not

just when death may be imminent. It is for all who would like

prayers for their or their loved one’s healing.

St. Peters Guardian Angel Fund

The guardian angel fund has been established to help make a Catholic Education possible for all families. Making a donation to the Guardian Angel Fund furthers the Catholic education of a child or children in need. All donations to the Guardian Angel Fund are tax-deductible and go directly toward tuition assistance. Please consider being a guardian angel and helping children receive a Catholic education at St. Peter’s School. For additional information,

contact the parish office at 262-642-7225x3.

There are many ways to donate to St. Peter’s. One way is to consider a bequest for a specific thing or purpose. We pray that you will be inspired to support our parish to the degree you are able. God Bless you all.
