D e a r B r o t h e r s and Sisters in Christ,

M e r r y Christmas!!

These are some of the most blessed words that we can offer to one another. They contain the emotion of the day which is an indescribable joy, a happiness that is not conditioned on what goes on around us but what is happening inside of our hearts and souls. Joy is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Saint Paul describes the Christians in Macedonia as having “overflowing joy, and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.” (2 Corinthians 8: 2).

When joy is lacking, the soul becomes heavy. It is not uncommon this time of year for people to feel depressed or blue; they miss a deceased loved one or cannot be with their family up north. When joy is present however, the power of God is most visible. Supernatural joy. Not the worldly joy that might come from a flute of mimosa or an upset of the Cowboys by the Eagles. No, the joy of Christ at Christmas is the joy that can be present even when someone is in distress or even dying, because Christ’s joy comes from the presence of the Holy Spirit working in one’s life, and this joy cannot be taken away from you. Listen again to Saint Paul: “Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. Do not be anxious about anything….And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Phil.4:4ff).

This then is the gift that we all can receive this Christmas, Christ Himself. A personal gift. A customized present with your name on it. A gift that will never break, nor get boring, nor cease to satisfy you. Jesus Christ is, as cousin Eddie says to Clark Griswold when he gets enrolled in the jelly of the month club in National Lampoon Christmas, the gift that keeps on giving.

My prayer is that all of you will not miss the gift of joy that the Lord wants to give to each of you this Christmas. You may be enjoying good health or battling a life threating disease. You may have had a successful year in your career or still looking for a job that will pay you a suitable and living wage. You may be looking forward to an upcoming vacation or wedding in 2019, or the new year may be best anticipated as “the same old same old”. Wherever you find yourself as you read this little message, please embrace Christ in your heart and allow Him to take you to a place of peace and joy, the stable where he and the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph are in quiet obscurity, waiting for you to visit. Once you visit the Christ child, you will never be the same.

I love all of you. I keep you and your loved ones in prayer at all my Christmas Masses and yes, I give a Philly high-five even to Cowboy fans!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Faithfully yours in Christ Jesus,

Father Michael A. Scheip, Administrator

Announcement for families with students in Catholic School:

In order to qualify for the Catholic Family School tuition rate and completion of the Parish Affiliation Form, weekly offertory

envelopes usage is required on a regular basis .

It is important to understand an offering does not need to be included with the usage of the weekly envelopes.

This is the only feasible way to confirm your family is active in the church and meets the definition of an “active Catholic family.”

If at the time of needing the Parish Affiliation Form to be completed, you do not meet the definition, we are happy to do so when your attendance at weekly Mass has met the definition.

We applaud your decision to educate your children in our Faith.

God Bless,Your Parish Finance Council of Our Lady of the Angels

Please call the church office at least six months in advance to

schedule your wedding. We recommend that you not schedule your reception venue until you have secured a date & time for the

wedding ceremony.

Baptisms may be scheduled with the parish priests. Please call the church office to arrange a meeting and obtain information for

the Baptism preparation. Godparents must be registered, active members of a parish.

Community Life Presents: “Marina Jack Bay Lunch Cruise”

The cruise is a narrated sightseeing lunch tour on the Marina Jack II through Lido and Bird Key, past the Ringling Bridge into north Sarasota Bay. Included is a lunch buffet featuring tomato basil chicken breast, fresh seasonal vegetables, chef’s daily catch, tossed salad with dressing, rolls and dessert. Boarding is at 11:30am, please arrive on time.

Please pay by cash or check to the church office to obtain a reservation. All reservations must be made by January 20th. The boat will cruise rain or shine as they have enclosed areas and is located at 2 Marina Plaza, Sarasota, FL, 34236 (Marina Jack’s Restaurant Gift Shop). Please call or email Jackie Burke with any questions at 269-998-9151 or [email protected]. Reserve ASAP as space is limited.

We are in need of Adorers to commit to one hour per week. Our Adorers, whether committed to an hour each week, or just ‘stopping in’, are a blessing. But there are still times when the shades must come down for no one is there. The Chapel is open for 44 hours during the week, but we only have 27 hours where people have committed to visit Our Lord each week. Won’t you give up just one hour a week to experience the Peace of Adoration? Please contact the Adoration Ministry at [email protected] if you have any questions about our Adoration Chapel, or if you would like to share an hour a week with Our Lord – we need you! He is waiting for you! Adoration Chapel hours: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday – 7 am to 4 pm Wednesday – 7 am to 7 pm Friday – 7 am to noon (we have no adorers committed to Fridays) We now have Gift of Prayer cards in the Chapel. You can dedicate your time in prayer for the intention of another and give them this Gift of Prayer card to let them know they are not alone. Thank you from the Adoration Ministry.

Forty-Hours: Thank you to all who visited our Adoration Chapel during our Forty-Hours of Prayer for Our Blessed Mother’s Intentions. Every hour had 2 or more, with over 200 people signing-in to visit with Our Lord, and so many who ‘stopped in’! Our Lady was surely pleased. Adoration Adorers: If you had the opportunity to visit last week, and felt the peace you get from spending quiet time with Our Lord, you can have that experience more often. It is such a wonderful gift to have our Adoration Chapel, and to be able to get out of the hustle and bustle of the world and experience the peace of Our Lord.
