WHY DOES MVADA EXIST?

DAVID WHEELER: Vocational schools defy skeptics.

Southeastern Principal

Vocational education has been getting a lot of press lately.

As a whole, we have dramatically increased MCAS scores, reduced dropout rates, and have higher graduation rates than the state average.

A series of articles on the successes of area vocational schools, the national magazine Atlantic Monthly, published an article on Massachusetts’s innovative vocational schools model, and Worcester Vocational Technical School was named a PRIME model school by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

Clearly, vocational schools in Massachusetts are doing something right.

Things To Think About

Recent Turnover in vocational principals and Athletic Directors along with many recent MIAA policy changes threaten the status of our MVADA tournaments, our purpose and our goals. We feel that we can combat this if we have a strong unified voice on these issues.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

Due to Recent Turnover in vocational principals and athletic directors Attendance of Athletic Director’s at our meetings has declined. Technicalities do not exclude your school from MVADA Tournaments Forms/deadlines/policies have changes and Athletic Director’s who do not regularly attend may be

misinformed. Seeding meetings need to be organized and concise. Last minute phone calls to non attending Athletic Director’s for entries into tournaments .

We have tried the following: Day/night meetings Multiple Locations

Attempted conference calls and web meetings Attendance is poor on average 13 Athletic Directors attend meetings

What you can do to help!

Provide support to your Athletic Director so they can attend meetings.

Promote our Vocational Tournaments schoolwide. Host a Vocational Tournament (Neutral Site) Provide support and Athletic Director leadership towards our

mission as a Vocational Organization

WE NEED HELP TO ELEVATE AND VALUE TOURNAMENT PARTICIPATION.
