Programme Duration: 12 months of full-time study

Required Background: A graduating average of B or higher, in either a commerce,

management or business undergraduate degree specialising in

any area, or a bachelors degree in agriculture

Programme Start Date: November each year

MASTER OF PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT (FINANCE)

Career Objective: Finance sector

Programme Duration: 12 months of full-time study

Required Background: A graduating average of B or higher, in either a commerce,

management or business undergraduate degree specialising in

any area, or a bachelors degree in a finance related subject such

as economics

Programme Start Date: November each year

Career Objective: Hotel Management

Programme Duration: 12 months of full-time study (variable on length of internship)

Required Background: A graduating average of B or higher, in either a commerce,

management or business undergraduate degree specialising in any

area, or a bachelors degree in tourism

Programme Start Date: November each year

MASTER OF PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT (PUBLIC RELATIONS)

Career Objective: Public Relations professional

Programme Duration: 12 months of full-time study

Required Background: A graduating average of B or higher, in either a commerce,

management or business undergraduate degree specialising in

any area, or a bachelors degree in communication or similar

Programme Start Date: November each year

Note: The 12-month period includes two standard semesters and two summer school

semesters. Some of the MPM programmes provide the opportunity for either an applied

research project or an action research internship. We will assist students in finding

internships if they wish to take this paper alternative in the programme, but placements

cannot be guaranteed. Waikato Management School also offers other research and applied

masters degrees, most of which can be taken over a 12 to 18-month period. For more

THE PROGRAMME

MASTER OF PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT (AGRIBUSINESS)

The MPM (Agribusiness) provides you with an understanding of the increasingly

competitive global agribusiness landscape, introduces you to emerging global

issues and improves your ability to respond to change.

In the first stage of the programme you will learn the skills needed to operate as a professional

in agribusiness. You will study the international agribusiness environment together with the

finance and economics skills you will need.

In the second stage you will become familiar with the advanced professional areas such as

agribusiness management governance and leadership, value chain innovation and strategy,

food systems and policy, risk and international marketing.

In the final stage you will practice and apply your knowledge to an internship or in action-

based and applied research.

MASTER OF PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT (FINANCE)

Finance professions need good judgement underpinned with a strong

ethical foundation.

The MPM (Finance) is designed to build a career in professional practice. Our programme builds

the platform for advancing work opportunities in financial markets, financial intermediation,

corporate finance and financial advisory specialisations.

In the first stage of the programme you will learn the skills needed to operate as a

finance professional. You will study corporate finance, investments, financial markets and

financial modelling.

In the second stage you will become familiar with the advanced professional areas such as

derivative securities, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions and international

finance. In the final stage you will apply knowledge, undertake research and advanced financial

modelling applications.

MASTER OF PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT (INTERNATIONAL HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT)

Hotels are complex service organisations. Leading them requires a thorough

understanding of tourism and a high level of skill in management.

The MPM (International Hospitality Management) is designed to build the knowledge and

skills required for a career in hotel or hospitality management. Our aim is to develop future

leaders of the hotel industry.

The first stage is about developing the basic skills and understanding required for hotel

management. You will study the principles of managerial decision-making, entrepreneurship,

events management in the hospitality industry and consider evolution of global tourism.

The second stage covers advanced areas of hotel and resort management, human capital

management and service management. It also develops a deeper understanding of the nature

of and behaviour of tourism markets.

In the final stage you will apply your knowledge by undertaking an internship in an international

hotel or by undertaking applied research.

Public relations is a critical component of all organisational success.

Public relations practitioners are responsible for organisations internal and external

communications and help organisations build and maintain meaningful relationships with

their publics and stakeholders. The MPM (Public Relations) is designed to build the professional

skills needed to be a public relations professional.

The first stage of the programme is about developing skills. You will study applied

communication, professional writing and study public relations cases to build an understanding

of professional practice.

The second stage is about advanced professional practice. You will study corporate public

relations practice, reputation management and investor relations. The programme also

includes the opportunity to study business sustainability and global business futures.

The final stage is about application. You will investigate best public relations practice or

undertake an internship and undertake applied public relations research.
