6. Programme Starts The current program was approved in 1988, accepting students in 1995. This revised program will accept student in the first semester of academic year 2009. 7. Admission Requirements 7.1 Students must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Dentistry or equivalent 7.2 Receive a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 7.3 Exemptions from 7.2 may be granted by the Administrative Program Committee and the Dean of Faculty of Graduate Studies.

8. Selection Method

Written examination and interview. Final judgment will be under the considered by the Administrative Program Committee and the Dean of Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University.

9. Academic System 9.1 Semester system 9.2 Credits

The number of credits assigned to each subject is determined as follow: 9.2.1 The lecture or discussion consuming 15 hours per semester is equal to 1 credit hour. 9.2.2 The laboratory or practice consuming 30 hours per semester is equal to 1 credit hour. 9.2.3 The independent study consuming 45 hours per semester is equal to 1 credit hour. 9.2.4 The thesis consuming 45 hours per semester is equal to 1 credit hour. 10. Duration of Study

The duration of study must take no more than 5 academic years. 11. Registration 11.1 Students must register as full time students.

11.2 Students must register no less than 9 credits but no more than 15 credits per regular semester, or up to the recommendation of the advisors. 12. Evaluation and Graduation Requirements 12.1 Evaluation

Student evaluation is in accordance with the rules and regulations of Mahidol University.

12.2 Graduation Requirements Student must

(1) Take no less than 29 credits of course work and 12 credits of thesis, total credit for the program not less than 41 credits, with GPA not less than 3.00.

(2) Pass the English Proficiency Examination offered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University.

(3) Complete the thesis research and pass oral thesis examination required for graduation according to regulations of Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University.

(4) Have at least one publication or the manuscript has been accepted for publication in standard journal or a conference’s proceedings.

There are about 6,000 textbooks in dentistry and related disciplines and 125 Thai and English dental journals available in the Rajvithi Campus library. Moreover, textbooks and journals can be borrowed from other libraries in Thailand and abroad. Besides, the students can get access to Medline, full-text journals, internet and e-mail services. 18. 19.6 Course Description 19.6.1 Required Courses Credits (Lecture-Lab-self study) DTHD 502 Dental Epidemiology 1 (1-0-2) Basic concept of epidemiology related to clinical research and dental problems of the community including risk factors. Design of research project based on epidemiological approach and identification of factors effecting cause of diseases and relationship with other diseases. Evaluation of research proposal or design and discussion of research result with epidemiological evaluation. DTHD 504 Comprehensive Care Approach in General Dentistry 3 (3-0-6) Philosophy and principles of periodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics and restorative dentistry. Comprehensive diagnosis and treatment planning in general dentistry. Conservative treatment and restoration for esthetics and function in periodontal/endodontic patients. 20. Quality Assurance of the Program 20.1 Programme Management This programme is established under the criteria of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University and will be managed by the Programme Committee who is representatives of eight clinical departments: Community Dentistry, Hospital Dentistry, Operative, Oral Medicine, Oral Radiology, Oral Surgery, Pediatric, and Prosthodontics. This committee will arrange all the teaching and research facilities. The advanced clinical studies will be supervised by Programme’s Staffs under the regulations of the Mahidol University Dental Hospital. The Programme Committee with an external referee will conduct the assessment report of the Programme in order to maintain the quality assurance of the Programme every 5 years.

20.2 Research and Teaching Resources This programme is one of the Postgraduate Programmes for advanced clinical training in Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University. Students are eligible to use their advanced facilities both for training and research aspects, including additional visiting lecturers, training courses, and research facilities from their collaboration institutes. The Programme will be conducted mainly at the Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University and the Golden Jubilee Medical Center where major clinical facilities and research equipment are located. 20.3 Student Supports and Mentoring Service The number of students accepted in the Programme is based on the students to staff ratio that should not be higher than 4:1. Student supervisor qualification is according to the regulations of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Students can apply for financial supports for their tuition and research expenses from both Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Graduate Studies. In term of research support, each student will choose an advisor and a thesis project by the middle of the first semester under the approval of the programme chairperson. Research financial support will be provided from advisor research grant or the application for both faculties (Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University) research support grant. Dissertation research will be undertaken under the guidance of an advisory committee according to the regulations of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Traveling fund for research presentation at the conferences is available from both Faculties. 20.4 Market Demand for Graduate The Faculty of Dentistry conducts the survey on employer’s satisfactory on gradates of the Faculty to meet the market demand.
