Master Plan e Master Plan In 2016 the College engaged Stewart Architecture to prepare a Master Plan for the future growth of the College. The purpose of the Radford Master Plan is to provide a framework to guide new investment and development within the campus. This is a key objective of the College Strategic Plan and seeks to align existing facilities with contemporary and age-appropriate educational needs. The Master Plan will complement and enhance the current style in a manner that will create an attractive and safe place for students, meet College needs for students and staff accommodation, ensure the facilities support modern teaching and learning practices, better connect and organise the campus providing green landscape spaces and places for congregation. First projects from the Master Plan will be: New Junior School specialist classrooms (modular building) – completed end 2017 New Year 3 and Year 4 classrooms – completed end 2018 New Secondary School classrooms – completed end 2018 • Refurbishment of Secondary School classrooms – 2017 to 2019 Community Consultation Throughout the development of the Master Plan staged community consultation was undertaken by Purdon Planning and Stewart Architecture to understand the needs, wants, values and concerns of Radford College community members to ensure this feedback was incorporated into the Master Plan. Flyers were distributed in September and November 2016 that led to extensive and broad community consultations, which included class visits, public displays as well as workshops with key college committees including executives, staff members, parents and friends, collegians as well as current students. General Layout The existing framework of the school will be strengthened by improving key east-west and north-south pathways and shared spaces. It will provide more direct, sheltered and accessible connections through the school to key gathering spaces and destinations. Key facilities and buildings are either upgraded, expanded or replaced with new accommodation, reinforcing the original layout of the campus whilst ensuring the dominant landscape theme of the entire campus is protected and strengthened. A new ‘Common’ will provide a valuable green space at the heart of the Secondary School. e Junior School The connection between the Junior School and the ovals will be improved by creating a parking undercroft, underneath a new expanded Junior School. Expansion will require an increase in classrooms for each year that will be generally accommodated around the perimeter of existing courtyards and play areas. A new enlarged Junior School Library and Hall together with additional covered recreation space and new Year 5&6 classrooms are located above the new Undercroft Parking Facility. This will ensure an expanded and compact Junior School Campus. e Main Quad A new extended quadrangle provides a cloistered green square at the main entrance to the College. New and existing buildings frame and shelter this north oriented ‘town square’ sufficiently large for the entire school to gather. Key activities on the Quad include the Chapel, the expanded TB Millar Hall, College reception and administration, Performing Arts and the new Theatre Centre. The Main Quad will be directly connected with covered ways to the Junior School and the Library Square at the centre of the Secondary School. e Library Square This new square combines internal and external spaces at the hub of the Secondary School. Integrated activities include Library, IT, Science, as well as general learning and teaching spaces. The design accommodates the canteen and bookstore at ground level, as well as a staff common room and meeting spaces at upper levels. This new Library Square provides a new informal sheltered gathering space sufficiently large for the entire Secondary School. Parking Parking provision will better meet peak demands while dramatically reducing the dominance of surface roads and parking areas. New naturally lit and naturally ventilated undercroft carparks replace the existing major vehicular area in front of the Junior School. A new surface carpark is located at the entrance to the Browning Early Learning Centre. A new enlarged surface carpark accessible from Haydon Drive will allow most parking to be removed from the centre of the campus, ensuring improved safe access within the campus as well as to ‘community’ facilities provided by the College.

The Master PlanIn 2016 the College engaged Stewart Architecture to prepare a Master Plan for the future growth of the College.

First projects from the Master Plan will be:

• New Junior School specialist classrooms (modular building) – completed end 2017

• New Year 3 and Year 4 classrooms – completed end 2018

• New Secondary School classrooms – completed end 2018

• Refurbishment of Secondary School classrooms – 2017 to 2019

Community ConsultationThroughout the development of the Master Plan staged community consultation was undertaken by Purdon Planning and Stewart Architecture to understand the needs, wants, values and concerns of Radford College community members to ensure this feedback was incorporated into the Master Plan.
