CLC Master Plan Survey Summary of Results

November 2011

INTRODUCTION As part of the College of Lake County (CLC) Master Planning process, a survey was conducted of current CLC students, alumni, full time / part time faculty, staff / administrators, and members of the public. The objective was to obtain feedback from the various stakeholder groups about options for future development of facilities at the college’s campuses. Feedback was sought on various areas of focus, including:

• A new student center • A new science building • An expansion of the Lakeshore campus • An expansion of the Southlake campus • New classrooms created from vacated space • Modernizing most classrooms • Supporting sustainability • Achieving optimum use of parking • Reducing deferred maintenance

The survey was conducted online. An email containing a link to the survey was sent by the Vice President of Administrative Affairs to the 17,328 students enrolled at CLC in the fall 2011 semester who had valid email addresses. The email provided background on the survey and emphasized the importance of stakeholder feedback in finalizing a consensus Master Plan which would have a lasting impact on the future of the college. The student email invitation was sent on October 5, 2011. As an incentive for participation, students were given the chance to win a $100 gift certificate to the CLC bookstore. A total of 1525 students responded, an approximately 9% response rate.

A separate email was sent to the approximately 1480 CLC full time and part time faculty, staff and administrators on the “All Member” email distribution list. Again, the email provided background on the survey and encouraged faculty and staff to assist by providing their input. The faculty / staff email was sent on October 3, 2011. The incentive for faculty and staff participation was an offer to win one of three $25 coffee cart gift cards. Two reminder emails were sent before the survey was closed on October 28, 2011. A total of 699 faculty / staff / administrator responses were obtained, an approximately 47% response rate.

A link to the survey was also posted on the CLC public website on October 3, 2011. An introductory statement provided background on the Master Plan and invited any interested community members to take the survey. The website survey link was closed on October 28, 2011. A total of 136 “community / public / alumni” responses were obtained.

Results are presented in the attached tables. Responses to the closed end questions are presented in total and by respondent group. Responses to the open end / comment questions were also categorized and summarized. Not all respondents answered every question, so the total number of responses varies by table.
