MASTERCAM SCALING ON HIGH DPI (4K) DISPLAYS Purpose: To Instruct Mastercam to tell Windows that it is not DPI aware and let it scale everything properly. (This may not be the ideal soluƟon, but it makes Mastercam usable on high resoluƟon displays, such as the 3000 X 2000 resoluƟon MicrosoŌ Surface Book.) This informaƟon was adapted from Dan Antonielli’s soluƟon for scaling Adobe and other applicaƟons. Tell Windows to Look for an External Manifest File by ediƟng the Registry Press Windows BuƩon + R, and then type “regedit” and click OK. Navigate to the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>MicrosoŌ>Windows> CurrentVersion>SideBySide Right‐click, select NEW>DWORD (32 bit) Value Type PreferExternalManifest, and then press Enter Right‐click PreferExternalManifest, and then click Modify Enter Value data 1 and select Decimal Click OK, then Exit Registry Editor. MASTERCAM SCALING ON HIGH DPI (4K) DISPLAYS

HOW TO FIX IT STEP BY STEP: 

1. Tell Windows to Look for an External Manifest File by edi ng the Registry

• Press Windows Bu on + R, and then type “regedit” and click OK.

• Navigate to the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microso >Windows> CurrentVersion>SideBySide

• Right‐click, select NEW>DWORD (32 bit) Value

• Type PreferExternalManifest, and then press Enter

• Right‐click PreferExternalManifest, and then click Modify

• Enter Value data 1 and select Decimal

• Click OK, then Exit Registry Editor.

2. Create the External Manifest file. The External Manifest file is simply a text file that you can create and save with any text editor, such as Notepad.  

• Open Notepad or other text editor.

• Navigate to the following website: h p://www.danantonielli.com/wp‐content/uploads/2014/03/manifest.txt

• Copy all of the text from Dan Antonielli’s site and paste into Notepad.

• Save the text file as the name: “mastercam.exe.manifest”

3. COPY your text file to your Mastercam Program Directory (Typically located at C:\Program Files\mcam2017)

4. That’s it! No need to reboot. Start Mastercam as normal and you can put away your magnifying glass!
