RED BULLS AT PHILADELPHIA UNION – JUNE 23, 2013 – 5:00 PM ET

BULLETIN BOARD RED BULLS RETURN TO MLS PLAY, TAKING ON UNION The New York Red Bulls make their return to MLS play on Sunday, visiting PPL Park and Eastern Conference foe Philadelphia Union for a 5:00 PM match (TV: ESPN, ESPN Deportes; Radio: ESPN Deportes Radio Nueva York 1050 AM). The Red Bulls began practicing at the new Red Bull Training Facility this week in preparation for the team’s match against Philadelphia. Located in Hanover, NJ, the Red Bull Training Facility features three fields (two natural grass, one turf) and two buildings which house the first team locker room, training rooms, gym and offices among other features. The team had been practicing primarily on the campus of Montclair State University since 2007. New York has won five-straight against their Eastern Conference foe, going 6-2-0 all-time and 2-2-0 at PPL Park. The Red Bulls come into this matchup looking to bounce back after dropping their last two contests. After having their seven-game unbeaten streak snapped by Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 2-1, on June 1, New York came up short in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup fourth round matchup on June 12 against the New England Revolution, falling 4-2. The Red Bulls sit in second place in the Eastern Conference with 25 points and a 7-5-4 record, trailing the first place Montreal Impact by four points The Union will come into this contest having lost a fourth round U.S. Open Cup contest to D.C. United, 3-1. Club leading scorer Jack McInerney, who has 10 goals in MLS play, scored their lone goal. Their last MLS win came June 5, as the Union toppled the Columbus Crew, 3-0, at home. The Union is currently in a third place tie in the East and three points behind the Red Bulls. New York and Philadelphia met once before this season back on March 30. The contest saw the Red Bulls snag their first win of the season, 2-1, off a Thierry Henry goal in the 81st minute. Midfielder Dax McCarty opened up the scoring, giving the Red Bulls a lead in the 55th minute before substitute Conor Casey headed in a throw in for the Union to tie the contest. Henry’s game winner came off a Luyindula chip that saw the Red Bulls captain lock up the victory. It was also first year head coach Mike Petke’s first win of his career. The teams will square off Aug. 17 at Red Bull Arena for the third and final time of the year. CAHILL HELPS AUSTRALIA EARN WORLD CUP BERTH; MILLER BOOSTS TICOS New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill (Australia) and defender Roy Miller (Costa Rica) were called up by their respective national teams for recent 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Matches. Cahill left after New York’s 2-2 tie against the Columbus Crew at Red Bull Arena May 26 while Miller departed following the team’s match versus Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Red Bull Arena on June 1. Cahill played 90 minutes on June 4 in Saitama, Japan against Japan in a 1-1 tie. On June 11 in Melbourne, Australia against Jordan, Cahill scored his 29th international goal in a 4-0 win. Australia assured its place in the 2014 World Cup with a 1-0 win against Iraq on June 18 in Sydney, Australia, a match that Cahill also started. Cahill has 65 caps for his country. He has started in 14 regular season matches for New York this year, notching four goals and three assists. Miller has tallied 39 caps for Costa Rica and scored his first career international goal in a 1-0 win over Honduras in the Ticos’ CONCACAF qualifier. The Costa Ricans tied Mexico, 0-0, on June 11 in Mexico City, Mexico and beat Panama, 2-0, on June 18 in San Jose, Costa Rica. Miller was a substitute in the Panama match. A member of the Red Bulls since 2010, Miller has played in 10 matches for New York this year.

He tallied a career-high six assists in 24 appearances in 2012. Costa Rica currently has 11 points in CONCACAF Qualifying and is in second place, two points behind leader, the United States. BULLS ON PARADE The Red Bulls earned their first seven-game unbeaten run (5-0-2) for only the third time in club history and first time in 10 years before the streak was snapped in the team’s last match against Vancouver on June 1 – a 2-1 defeat. The last time this occurred was from April 19, 2003 to May 31, 2003 when New York went 5-0-2. It was the first time that the Red Bulls has not lost in six consecutive matches from April 28, 2012 to May 23, 2012. Prior to the Vancouver result, New York’s last loss was on April 17 – a 1-0 home defeat to Sporting Kansas City. In addition, after failing to win in their first four away games, New York has gone unbeaten in four road matches (3-0-1), improving their record away from Red Bull Arena to 3-3-2. The Red Bulls are 4-2-2 at home. The other time that New York had an unbeaten streak that was seven games or longer was when it went nine matches without a defeat from June 17, 2000 to July 22, 2000 (7-0-2). RED BULLS TO FACE LYON JULY 16 AT RED BULL ARENA The New York Red Bulls announced that they will host seven-time Ligue 1 winner, Olympique Lyonnais, in a friendly on Tuesday, July 16 at 8:00 PM at Red Bull Arena. “We are proud to host Olympique Lyonnais at Red Bull Arena,” said Red Bulls General Manager Jérôme de Bontin. “Lyon has a storied history in France and has featured a number of top international players, including our own Juninho and Peguy Luyindula, while playing a distinct brand of soccer. They have been an example to many European clubs of how to build a solid soccer organization over many years, with a strong vision and goals that are reflected by their consistent success and seven-straight Lique 1 championships. We look forward to welcoming Lyon and expect a very entertaining match at Red Bull Arena that will please Red Bulls fans and soccer enthusiasts across the tri-state area.” “I have such a fantastic memory of winning the LFP Champions Trophy in July 2012 at Red Bull Arena, which perfectly launched our season. Since then, regularly speaking with Gérard Houllier, I knew we would soon be back and I immediately responded when it was proposed that we play against the New York Red Bulls this summer,” said Olympique Lyonnais President Jean-Michel Aulas. “Through our international brand building program, being hosted by the Red Bulls proves to be a symbolic landmark. We are very proud to have been the New York Red Bulls’ choice for this exciting exhibition game next July.” Red Bulls Season Ticket Holders will have this match included in their plans. Tickets are on sale to the general public now by calling 1.877.RBSOCCER or logging onto www.newyorkredbulls.com Lyon qualified for the 2013-14 UEFA Champions League after finishing in third place in Ligue 1 in its 2012-13 campaign with 67 points and a 19-9-10 record. The French club had a distinguished run from 2001 to 2008, winning seven-straight Ligue 1 championships while reaching the Champions League quarterfinals three consecutive times (2003-04 to 2005-06). Lyon’s best finish in the Champions League came in the 2009-10 season, when it earned a spot in the semifinals. The side is currently managed by Rémi Garde. The Red Bulls have never faced Lyon. However, Lyon did play at Red Bull Arena on July 28, 2012 as part of the 2012 Trophee Des Champions

against Montpellier Hérault SC – a match OL won 4-2 on penalties after the teams tied 2-2 in regulation. Juninho had a storied career playing for Lyon from 2001-09. The Brazilian recorded 100 goals in 344 matches in all competitions and his goal mark is fourth all-time in Lyon history. Juninho, who played under current Global Sporting Director of Red Bull Soccer Gerard Houllier from 2005-07, was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year in the 2005-06 season and was a three-time member of the Ligue 1 Team of the Year. Luyindula was able to compete in the UEFA Champions League at Lyon from 2001-2004, scoring 46 goals in 126 appearances in all competitions while helping his team win two league championships. OLAVE, JUNINHO SUSPENDED FOR SUNDAY New York Red Bulls defender Jamison Olave and midfielder Juninho are suspended for the team’s match against Philadelphia Sunday. Olave earned two yellow cards against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on June 1 in New York’s 2-1 loss while Juninho earned his fifth yellow card in the same match. Both players will be available for selection for the Red Bulls’ following match on June 30 against the Houston Dynamo at Red Bull Arena. RED BULLS FALL TO NEW ENGLAND, 4-2, IN OPEN CUP Despite goals from forward Fabian Espindola and midfielder Jonny Steele, the Red Bulls were eliminated from the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, falling in a fourth round match against the New England Revolution, 4-2, at Soliders Field Soccer Stadium on the campus of Harvard University June 12. New England took the lead in the fourth minute. Kelyn Rowe had the ball on the right wing and was able to drive it with his left foot past goalkeeper Ryan Meara and into the back of the net. Meara later kept the score within one with a string of diving saves on Ryan Guy, Gabe Latigue and Rowe. New York tied the game in the 30th minute. Espindola was able to beat goalkeeper Matt Reis to a soft back pass by Darrius Barnes in the Revolution defensive end and knocked it into the empty net for his second goal of the competition in 2013. Rowe doubled his tally and again gave the hosts the lead seven minutes later. The New England midfielder dribbled through the center of the field and ripped a right footed blast past Meara and into the goal’s bottom corner. The visitors nearly tied the game again moments after Rowe’s second. Juninho’s free kick bounced off a Revolution defender and Dax McCarty’s one-timer went inches wide. The Revolution doubled their advantage to 3-1 six minutes into the second half. A Barnes long ball was controlled in the box by Dimitry Imbongo, who brushed off a Red Bulls defender and poked it into the back of the net. However, the Red Bulls were able to pull one back in the 61st minute. Eric Alexander was sprung through on the right wing and his cross to the back post was headed in by Steele. Twelve minutes later, Steele was the provider, putting a well-weighted ball over the top to an on-rushing Espindola. However, the Argentine could not get his volley on target. New England wrapped up the result three minutes from full time. With New York pushed up looking for a third goal, Guy crossed it and Chris Tierney was there to slot it home from close range. The Red Bulls were reduced to 10 men when Brandon Barklage was issued a second yellow card in second half stoppage time. Commissioner Don Garber all contribute in the All-Star selection process. RED BULLS FALL TO VANCOUVER, 2-1 The New York Red Bulls lost their first match in eight games on June 1, falling to Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 2-1, at Red Bull Arena in front of 19,969 spectators. The Red Bulls dominated possession in the opening half and tested Vancouver’s defense early, with Fabian Espindola forcing goalkeeper Brad Knighton to stop his left-footed attempt in the 14th minute. Soon after, Jonny Steele’s on target blast was caught by Knighton. In the 21st minute, Juninho created space for himself and hit a dipping shot that zipped just over the crossbar. New York took the lead in the 51st minute via good attacking play in Vancouver’s defensive third. Thierry Henry slid the ball through to an on-rushing Steele, whose low cross was re-directed into his own net by Greg Klazura. However, the visitors equalized seven minutes later. After New York cleared a corner kick, Whitecaps FC defender Lee Young-Pyo swung a ball towards the back post that was headed towards the penalty spot. Jordan Harvey was there to volley it into the net. The Red Bulls were reduced to 10 men when Jamison Olave earned his second yellow card and a subsequent red card for a foul on Kenny Miller in the 75th minute. Vancouver took home the three points seven minutes from full time as Miller headed home a Russell Teibert cross from inside the box. I want to thank my family and our youth academy coaches for helping me to realize my dream.” Miazga, hailing from Clifton, NJ, was most recently called up to the U.S. Under-18 team for the 19th Annual International Juniors Tournament in Portugal that took place last week. He was a member of the Red Bulls Academy since 2009, when he played for the club’s Under-14 squad. The 17-year-old was part of the Under-16 Red Bulls side that won the U.S. Developmental Academy National Championship in 2012 and most recently played for the Under-18 team. He has also featured for his country at various U.S. Youth National Team age levels. Miazga has played for the Red Bulls Reserve Team this season. The other former Red Bulls Academy players who graduated to the New York first team were: forward Giorgi Chirgadze (signed: Sept. 2009), forward Juan Agudelo (March 2010), midfielder Matt Kassel (Jan. 2011), defender Sacir Hot (Jan. 2011), defender Connor Lade (Dec. 2011), goalkeeper Santiago Castano (Dec. 2012) and Amando Moreno (Dec. 2012). MEARA MAKES RETURN After being an early contender for MLS Rookie of the Year before undergoing season ending hip surgery last year on Aug. 23, goalkeeper Ryan Meara made his return to the first team, playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-0 U.S. Open Cup win over Reading United AC on May 29. Meara also played against New England in Open Cup action on June 12. Meara had a strong first professional campaign prior to his hip surgery. After being drafted in the second round (31st overall) in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft from Fordham University, Meara earned the starting role in preseason and started in 18 games for New York, recording a 9-5-4 record and a 1.50 goals against average. The Yonkers, NY native set the shutout record earlier this year for a rookie goalkeeper, not conceding a goal in 321 minutes while helping the Red Bulls to a five-match winning streak from April 28 to May 19. OLAVE REACHES CAREER HIGH; SUSPENDED FOR PHILLY In his first year as a Red Bull, defender Jamison Olave has already broken his MLS season record in goals when he tallied the game-tying goal on May 26 in a 2-2 tie with Columbus. Olave, who was acquired with

forward Fabian Espindola from Real Salt Lake on Dec. 3, 2012 in exchange for allocation money, scored three goals with RSL in 2009 and 2010. HENRY SCORES SIXTH New York captain Thierry Henry recorded his team-leading sixth goal of the season, chipping a Tim Cahill pass over goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum on May 26. Henry’s last game in which he found the back of the net was on May 8, notching his sixth career MLS multi-goal game after scoring two in a 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact. His second was one for the highlight reel, connecting on an overhead kick in the 88th minute - the eventual match-winner. The goal was also the number one play on ESPN Sports Center’s Top 10 Plays that evening. Henry is in sole possession of fourth place in regular season goals scored in club history with 37, putting him two goals behind third place Clint Mathis. He is also tied with Mathis for third in club history in multi-goal games (6), trailing Juan Pablo Angel (12) and Giovanni Savarese (10). Entering his third full season in Major League Soccer, Henry continues to be one of the game’s top performers. In 2012, the World Cup, UEFA Champions League and European Championship winner was a finalist for the League’s Most Valuable Player and earned a spot both on the MLS All-Star Team and the Best XI for the second-straight time in his career after tallying 15 goals and 12 assists. RED BULLS-GALAXY TIES ATTENDANCE RECORD The Red Bulls-LA Galaxy game on May 19 tied a Red Bull Arena attendance record of 25,219 set on Oct. 20, 2012 when New York tied Sporting Kansas City, 0-0. It was the first sell out this year for the Red Bulls.

LATE GAME HERO CAHILL KEEPS ROLLING Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill continues to find the back of the net, scoring his fourth goal in five games in New York’s 1-0 win over the LA Galaxy May 19. Cahill rose up and headed a Juninho free kick in the back of the net in the 91st minute. It was the third game-winning goal that Cahill has scored in the 80th minute or after this season. (April 27 at Toronto FC, May 4 at Columbus the others). Cahill was named MLS Player of the Week for Week 9 on April 29 following his two-goal performance in the Red Bulls’ 2-1 win over Toronto FC at BMO Field on April 27. Cahill followed that performance up by scoring the game-winning goal against Columbus in a 1-0 victory a week later. This season, Cahill has recorded 14 starts, notching four goals and two assists. After joining the Red Bulls on July 26, 2012, Cahill started in 12 regular season matches and two postseason games, notching a goal and three assists that year. SAM TALLIES FIRST Red Bulls midfielder Lloyd Sam scored his first MLS goal, slotting in a low shot in the 55th minute off an Andre Akpan feed to help give New York a 1-1 tie against New England May 11. Sam has played in 10 games this season, making his second start of the year against the Revolution. The 28-year-old made his first start on April 27 against Toronto FC, playing 71 minutes before being replaced by Kosuke Kimura. It was Sam’s first MLS start since Oct. 20, 2012 against Sporting Kansas City. The former Charlton Athletic player signed with the Red Bulls on Aug. 17, 2012.
