Clay It is made from water, mud and rocks over the years. Also mixed

with chemicals. It can also be made from mud and water from the bottom of a

stream. It needs heat energy to be made solid.Wood It is the main substance in trees It is simple to cut It is strong It is from treesGlassIt is composed mainly of sand (silicates, SiO2) and an alkali. These are the main characteristics of glass:- It is a Solid and hard material- It is fragile and easy to break into sharp pieces

Page 3: Materials

ClayBreak it down- Properties of Water Water is made out of natural resources from earth, and it's also

made out of atoms. Properties of mud  Made out of soil, silt and clay. Brown, Liquidishy. Properties of Rocks  Hard, Dried magmaWoodBreak it down- Properties of trees Woody Rough (some are soft) Brown barkProperties of seeds Hard Take a long time to growGlassBroken down: Properties of sand Made up of other minerals or small rock fragments. Sand

contains a large proportion of heavy minerals like rutile and zircon.

Broken down again: Properties of rocks  Solid and not easy to break (unless it's soft and a bit smooth).

Examples of rocks are Marble, Slate, Granite, Pumice, Chalk (kind of) and many more.

Rocks: Some kind of rocks are found from a volcano, like Pumice. Others may be found on beaches.

ClayClay is found deep in the groundIn rivers, streams

WoodAll over the world, from trees

GlassIn factories around the world. (It is made in factories)The finished product is found on the side of houses

(windows), in the kitchen (Glass cups, glasses we don’t wear) or on shelves(Ornaments, trophies, glasses that we wear in their cases).

ClayPeople like Harrapans or Egyptians find a lot of

clay.Poorer countries use them for making mud

bricks/ have clay in them.

WoodWood was the earliest fuel used

Glass Before people learned to make glass, they had

found two forms of natural glass.

Page 6: Materials

ClayThe material has changed from a big lump of

nothing into a clay item such as a vase, bowl or it might just get packed into a bag to be wet clay.

WoodThe color of the wood can be changedGlassThe shape changes and the structure

changes during the process of making glass

Clay Clay is renowned to have many uses in promoting health in plants, animals and

humans. Bentonite clay can treat various skin It can eliminate food allergies, food poisoning, mucus colitis, spastic colitis, viral

infections, stomach flu, and parasites (parasites are unable to reproduce in the presence of clay).

There is no digestive disease that clay will not treat. It enriches and balances blood. It adsorbs radiation (e.g. cell phones, microwaves, x-rays, TVs and irradiated food).

It has been used for alcoholism, arthritis, cataracts, diabetic neuropathy, pain treatment, open wounds, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, stomach ulcers, animal and poisonous insect bites, acne, anemia, etc.

It is also used for pottery and for molding things.Wood Many architecture Sculptures Stationary Paper FurnitureGlass Windows Ornaments Trophies Glasses Structures

ClayClay is measured in weight, density, lumps,

temperature and other ways.WoodCordsWeightCentimetersTimeMeters GlassMicro-Raman spectroscopy- used to measure stress

distributions in 1.5 µm thick polycrystalline silicon thin film solar cells on glass.

Clay If we keep getting more clay from local areas, more people can get

jobs and it will help their families make money We will have more clay to use and nice pottery to display in our houses More countries will demand more clay and make that country popular There might be large areas of flora and fauna that are getting killed to

make space for clay minesWood We will cut down all the trees and we will have no more oxygen to

breathe in All living creatures will dieGlass The chemicals which make glass may differ so that we can use

different types of chemicals and not use the regular chemicals that make glass.

The materials which make glass may be more environmentally friendly, so that saves the environment.

People might be able to make different things with glass (rather than the things mentioned)

Irreversible changes are changes which cannot be reversed, for example, if you cook an egg, you can’t change the egg back into a raw egg. Reversible changes are changes which can be reversed, for example, if you turn water into ice by cooling it, you can turn ice back into water by heating it.
