Math Interactive Notebooks
students will need a
composition notebook to
start the year.
In our class, we are going to use interactive notebooks.  The purpose of the interactive notebook is to enable students to be creative, independent thinkers and problem solvers. Interactive notebooks are used for class notes as well as for other activities where the student will be asked to express his/her own ideas and process the information presented in class.   Students will be responsible for keeping their own notebooks.   When notes are needed while doing homework or studying for tests, I will do my best to keep them updated with a link on my website for them.
Students will use a lot of
glue sticks and tape. Supplies donations will
always be welcome, and you may see requests for more as the
year progresses.
“Flipped” Videos
I also like to use some of the “flipped classroom” philosophy, in which lecture time becomes homework and what would be homework becomes classwork. This allows me to spend less time talking “at” students and more time observing and facilitating practice and classwork. It is also helpful in that students can take their own time in taking notes, can rewatch or pause as necessary, and watch videos to make up missed material when absent. It also helps parents and tutors see the material being taught and how it is presented.
Remind App You are invited to download the “Remind” app on
your phone and join our class!
This app is very useful for all of us— • I am able to send out reminders for studying,
additional tips on homework, and reminders for when larger assignments and projects are due;
• Parents, you may text me questions you may have, or let me know your child will be absent
from math class; • Students, you can ask me questions about
homework, and I believe you can also send a message to others in your class. This could be
helpful when you are absent.
