Circle Graph – a way to show data using slices of a whole circle

Page 20: Math journal wk 10
Page 21: Math journal wk 10

Circle GraphsThis week, we will recognize and correctly read a circle graph

Circle Graphs Should Have:

Title Key LabelsData Slices

Page 22: Math journal wk 10

Draw the graph. Circle and label each part of the graph.

Page 23: Math journal wk 10

1. What is this graph showing us?

Page 24: Math journal wk 10

2. Which food is most popular?

3. Which food is least popular?

Page 25: Math journal wk 10

4. What percent students liked Pecan Pie?

5. What percent of students liked Cherry Pie?

Page 26: Math journal wk 10

6. How much more popular was Apple Pie than Coconut Cream Pie?7. What percent voted for Cherry Pie or Pumpkin Pie?

Page 27: Math journal wk 10

8. State two facts from the graph.

Page 28: Math journal wk 10

Create a Circle Graph

We will collect and graph class data in a circle graph.

First, let’s collect data – raise your hand for your favorite type of food:

› Italian› American› Mexican› Asian

Page 29: Math journal wk 10

Create a Circle Graph

Using this data, let’s design a circle graph

Start with the title: Draw a circle where the graph will be

drawn in. Now, cut the circle into pieces

according to how many people voted for each food compared to the whole class (36 people).

Pictograph – a way to show data using a group of pictures

Page 32: Math journal wk 10
Page 33: Math journal wk 10

PictographsThis week, we will recognize and correctly read a pictograph

Every Pictograph Should Have:

TitleLabels*KeyData Pictures

Page 34: Math journal wk 10

Draw the graph. Circle and label each part of the graph.

Page 35: Math journal wk 10

1. What is the graph telling us?

Page 36: Math journal wk 10

2. What sport was most popular?3. How many students voted for it?

Page 37: Math journal wk 10

4. What sport was least popular?5. How many students voted for it?

Page 38: Math journal wk 10

6. How many more students voted for soccer than football?

Page 39: Math journal wk 10

7. State two facts from the pictograph.

Page 40: Math journal wk 10

8. What does the key show?9. The store has the most of which kind?

Page 41: Math journal wk 10

10. How many Golden Delicious apples?11. How many Red Rome apples?

Page 42: Math journal wk 10

Create a Pictograph

We will collect and graph class data in a pictograph.

First, let’s collect data – raise your hand for your favorite sport:› Soccer› Baseball› Basketball› Football› Other/None

Page 43: Math journal wk 10

Create a Pictograph

Using this data, let’s design a pictograph Start with the title: Now write a key where each ball = 2

students Draw a box where the graph will be

made. Label the left side with the sports. Now, draw a picture for each sport.

Remember, you may need to use half a picture to represent numbers.
