A Biblical Approach To Discipline Part 1
INTRODUCTION: For many people the biblical approach to discipline starts and
finishes with exhortation, “He that spareth his rod hateth his son,” Prov:13.24, this is a
gross distortion of what the Bible teaches us. Although a thorough study of biblical
principles of discipline is needed, today I want to suggest at least some starting points.
In Ephesians 6:1-4; Paul gives us three foundational principles for bringing up children:
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
‘Honour your father and your mother’- which is the first commandment with a
promise-’that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on earth.’
Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and
instruction of the Lord.
THREE FOUNDATIONAL PRINCIPLES:
THE FIRST PRINCIPLE:
It is right for Children to obey their parents, and so by delegation, their teachers.
Obedience is not a favour that children do for us; it is something that the Lord has
commanded them to do because it is right for them to do it. It is interesting to note
that the Bible directs two of these three principles to children. It speaks directly to
them. It does not say, ‘Parents make your children obey you,’ rather it talks to the
children about their responsibility.
STAY TUNED! MORE PRINCIPLES NEXT ISSUE....

WE NEED HOST
FAMILIES
ECCS is looking for families in our
school community who are interested in
taking care of exchange students from
West Timor.
This is the first time we have been blessed with such a rich and
meaningful experience. This is a great opportunity for your family to
experience another culture, make life-long connection with a young
person and most importantly to influence their life by sharing God's
love with them in a very practical way. We understand that being a
host family is a very big responsibility and therefore we would ask
you to pray about this and prayerfully consider with the following in
mind :
(1) The student will live in your home from 28th April to 12
th May
(2) The students will have their own health insurance cover in case
of any sickness or injury during their stay in Perth
(3) The school will assist with $200 cash per student to cover some
of the cost.
Interested families may fill out a form provided at the Reception
Area. We hope to hear from you before Term 1 ends.

Leadership Camp 2018
Over the weekend of March 16th to 18
th, the Student Councillors from Emmanuel participated in the Leadership
Camp. Eighteen students from Year 5-10 took part in a variety of activities that helped them learn about leadership
and also develop teamwork and helped them bond together as Councillors.
Mr. Fitch presented 4 Leadership Talks from the book of James. He encouraged the students to “Live Differently”,
“Speak Carefully”, “Develop Humbly” and “Care Confidently”. These talks were well received by the students and
allowed them plenty of time to think about and reflect on what was said.
Other activities that were enjoyed over the weekend were an obstacle course, where the students had to complete
the course while all holding a pole. Students also managed to escape with seconds to spare from the “Nuclear
Reactor” that they had been locked in by a mad scientist. Students (and adults) enjoyed participating in Laser Tag,
and spent the afternoon canoing, although some students spent more time in the water than in their canoes. On
Sunday camp was finished off with a Crate Climb, where students had
to stack milk crates on top of
each other and see how high
they could get.
This was a great weekend, and the students represented Emmanuel and their families exceptionally well.

Being SunSmart in Pre-Primary
We have been learning about what it means to be SunSmart in Pre-Primary
as part of our Health programme on Wednesdays. The children have
participated in play-based learning experiences by role playing and dressing
up in costumes that promoted SunSmart behaviours. The children enjoyed
role playing in our very own Pre-Primary beach! We had a wonderful time
searching for the SunSmart pictures in sand (and making a sandy mess on
the floor) experimenting with the texture of old, recycled thongs while
printing t-shirts for our SunSmart class
and painting amazing self- portraits.
Thank you God for creating the sun and for
helping us to make wise decisions when
playing on a
hot Summer’s
day!

The World’s Best Year 2 Assembly
On Thursday the 15th of March, it was our Year 2 assembly. It was at the Salcott campus. The whole school came and the
parents came as well. Sadly the high school did not come.
When our assembly started, the curtains opened. Then the narrators began to tell the story. The story was about the Big Bad
Wolf and how he was trying to get lots of friends. It was very funny. At the end, we sang a song called, Do It For The Lord. Then
the teachers handed out the certificates. After that we went back
to class.—Year 2 Class.
I was a narrator. I had to tell the story.—Grace
I liked when I was a duckling because I had a long part.
-Analisa
It was fun because I liked the song. -Ark
My favourite part was when granny’s hair a walking stick
was thrown back on stage.-Max.
My favourite part was when I was pretending
to scream.-Jayme
My favourite part was when Wah Doh (the
wolf) roared.-Sterling
We had lots of fun! We sang our song.
Finally we went home. It was fun.—Angel
We got changed into our costumes and finally
we had our assembly. It was a lot of fun.-
Kayden
When Mrs Funk told us it was our assembly everybody was very
excited! - Christina
It was fun acting and seeing some of the people in my family
watching me.-Johan
We wore costumes at assembly because we were actors. I felt scared
because the whole school was looking at me. - Awut

A Night to Remember
The year 10 dinner dance was a night
to remember which was all thanks to
Miss Pegrum, the year nine helpers
and the adult volunteers. It was a very
inspirational night as Shane and Hazel
Thaw came in
voluntarily to speak
to us about
relationships which
was the theme of
the dance. The set
out of the dance
was mesmerizing
with lanterns and
fairy lights, there was even a photo booth
section! As our first high
school dance it was
memory that I assure no
one would forget all thanks
to Miss Pegrum
and the
volunteers.—
