NEWSLETTER No. 37 27th November 2019

Dear Parents, Friends and Students

This weekend sees the Church begin its preparation for

the coming of Jesus at Christmas with the Season of

Advent. This is a time of preparation as we contemplate

the birth of Jesus and the effect of this birth on the world,

the effect that we still experience today. The colour of the

season is purple, a colour of reconciliation. We will not

experience the full season at school however, we will

invite the children to reflect on their own behaviours and

actions to see if they are reflecting the love of God to all

that they meet each day. This is a time of expectation in

the Church and so we all wait, with expectation, for the

coming of Jesus at Christmas.

Our next assembly will take place on Friday 29th

November. The Year 2 class will host this assembly. All

parents and members of our community are invited to

attend. It will begin at 9:05am and it will be held in the

undercover area.

In order to ensure a smooth transition, Mrs Therese

Hussey will be at our school on Monday December 2nd.

Mrs Hussey will be working with Mrs Scriven and me in

order for her to develop an understanding of how things

work at our school. Mrs Hussey will also meet the

children and the staff. I am sure the rest of our

community will help to make her feel welcome if they see

her throughout the day.

As the school year comes rapidly to a close, we start to

experience a lot of ‘finals’. Our Year 6 students will

present their final assembly as primary school students

on Friday 6th December. This is always one of the more

‘looked forward’ to assemblies in the school year. All

parents and members of our community are invited to

come along and join with us. The assembly will begin at

9:05am and it will be held in the undercover area.

Our end of year concert will take place on Friday 6th

December. The concert will begin at 6:00pm and held in

the undercover area. Families are invited to enjoy their

and this has been sent home for you to consider. As

usual, we will require help to put up the stage. If you are

available after school on Monday 2nd December, we

would appreciate your assistance.

Our Mass of Thanksgiving and Farewell to our Year 6

students will take place on Thursday 12th December.

This is a very special Mass with the whole school

community invited to gather together to thank God for the

many blessings he has given us throughout the year. We

will be recognising the prize winners from Year 6 along

with the passing of leadership onto our Year 5 students.

It would be fantastic if we could fill out the undercover

area for this Mass. It will begin at 9:05am. Following the

Mass, there will be a special morning tea that all parents

and members of our community are invited to attend.

Reports will be made available to parents on Wednesday

to Natasha Alleway for co-ordinating this for us. We were

PAPUA NEW GUINEA STATIONERY COLLECTION

Following Mark Powell’s visit to Papua New Guinea

their schools lack basic equipment, such as items of

stationery.

As a school, we will be collecting any unwanted stationery

items at the end of this term. You are most welcome to

send new or used items from home as well. Collection

boxes will be set up near the Year 5 and 6 classrooms. A

flyer with the details and a permission slip will accompany

the newsletter this week.

Have a great week.

28th November 2019

Dear Parent

As mentioned by Mark Powell in our school newsletter and at our last P & F

meeting, the schools in Papua New Guinea are extremely under-resourced

and students, as well as teachers, do not have basic equipment such as

stationery.

As a school, we will be collecting any unwanted stationery items at the end

of the term and these will be sent across to the schools in Papua New

Guinea early next year.

If you are happy for your child to put their used textas, colour pencils,

erasers, sharpeners, rulers, pencils, pens, etc. into a collection box on the

last day of school, please indicate this on the reply slip below.

If you would like to send in any additional items of stationery, new or used,

please feel free to do so anytime between now and the end of the term.

Collection boxes will be placed on a table outside the Year 5 & 6 area.

Thank you for your support.

Regards

Diane Scriven

Assistant Principal

I hereby give my permission for my child to donate their used stationery

items on the last day of school this term. (Friday 13th December 2019)
