Ireland Marching Band Tour 2020Galway, Limerick and Dublin

April 1 – 8

The members of the Council Rock South Marching Band will have the opportunity to visit Ireland! The “Emerald Isle” is known for its breathtaking views, medieval castles and much more. Irish folklore has fascinated the world for centuries with tales of faeries, leprechauns, and merrows (mermaids), and we’ll get to see the land that inspired these stories firsthand. Also known as “The Land of Saints and Scholars,” Ireland has brought us household names such as St. Patrick, W.B. Yates, and Oscar Wilde. The culture and history of Ireland will come to life as we tour Galway, Limerick and Dublin. Ireland offers our students a vast array of cultural exchanges as well as performance and educational outlets.

Our journey begins with a walking tour of Galway, including Eyre Square, the Spanish Arch, and the Claddagh. We will visit the soaring Cliffs of Moher and Bunratty Castle. We’ll step back in time as we enter the Rock of Cashel and Kilkenny Castle. In Dublin, we will tour St. Patrick’s cathedral. Students will also have a chance to experience the sport of hurling, Gaelic Football, and Irish Dance.

Our first three nights will be spent in picturesque Limerick. From there we will travel to Dublin and will remain there for our final three nights. The Marching Band will have some amazing performance opportunities, including a parade in Kilkenny complete with a standstill performance at the well preserved 11th century Kilkenny Castle.

Ireland has a thriving marching band culture. In Dublin, band and color guard students will perform alongside the very best bands in Ireland in the Irish Marching Band Association performance. This “Soundsport” event is a program of Drum Corps International that will feature our very own Council Rock South Band and Color Guard! Our final concert performance will be held in Dublin.

Chaperone duties will be provided by the Council Rock South marching band staff, administrators, and a nurse. The tour package is being provided by KI Concerts.
