I’m standing at the starting blocks surrounded by thousands of screaming fans.

I’m nervous, yet focused. Anxious, yet ready. And I’m sweating so much that I’ve managed to create a small puddle beneath my feet.

After years of hard work I’ve finally made it.

I’m competing in the Olympic Games.

The journey has been challenging, to say the least. What started as a summer activity soon turned into one hell of a life changing career.

My story is pretty typical for an elite athlete. I won a few competitions, made a few headlines, and by the age of fifteen I had been labeled Canada’s next athletic phenom. Before I knew it my life had changed. Drastically.

Sport was what I lived for and training became my day job.

I trained six days a week for eight hours a day.

Fitness. Strength. Technique. I mastered it all.

Gone were the days where I could simply rely on talent to achieve podium success. I had to become stronger, not only physically, but also mentally.

My training schedule made it hard to manage a full-time job to pay the bills. And if it wasn’t for the support of my family, I wouldn’t have made it this far.

Most Canadian athletes have no choice but to work on the side to pay for training and living expenses.

Ironically, it’s not our competitors preventing us from making it to the Olympic Games, it’s our country and its lack of athletic support.

In Canada, there aren’t many endorsement deals or sponsorship packages. We aren’t rewarded with complimentary coaches, meal plans, training facilities, or athletic apparel.

But if you’re one of the few talented Canadians to actually make it to the Olympics, you will be awarded an annual salary of $18,000 to help pay for it all.

Most Canadians wouldn’t dare pursue a career thatawarded its most skilled performers $18,000 a year- especially one that doesn’t guarantee job security, benefits, or growth opportunities. But that’s the life of a Canadian amateur athlete and that’s where you can help.

The Canadian Olympic Committee is a not-for-profit organization committed to sports excellence.

They provide financial support, services, and leadership to the Canadian amateur high-performance sport community so that athletes can maintain a decent standard of living while training for the Games.

With your support, you’ll be doing more than helping Canada win a gold medal at the next Olympic Games. You’ll be helping to create strong ambassadors for our country, amazing role models for our kids, and heroes to our future Olympians.

Become a part of the dream. Help Canada achieve Olympic success by becoming

Higher. Faster. Stronger.

Gone are the days when talent aloneguaranteed success.
