The LEGEND design has experiencedsignificant evolution for 2012.
A modified, shorter luff and higher cut foot outline combined.The shortened luff length moves the forces down, and allows 10kg less tension on average for the softer luff curves. A nearly straight foot makes all the aerial maneuvers and wave riding smooth and easy without interference.
Now in its third year, the revolutionary, ultra light GhostXT benefits from a new shorter luff and higher foot outline similar to the Legend. This results in the most unbelievably light handling and agile wave sail available. Not only is the GhostXT light but the TechnoraTM fibers used in the GhostXT laminate X-PlyTM are three times stronger than polyester yarns used in other “light weight” materials.
GLOBAL remains the design for getting the most out of what the world brings in terms of conditions. When you have punishing on-shore wind and need tons of power to punch through nasty whitewater and have to generate the speed to catch the wave, Global will deliver. Foot profiles are all slightly straighter, reflecting the use of the sails for freestyle, adding to the all-round versatility one would expect from top performing PowerWave sails.
SWITCH. If there is one sail in our line that speaks windsurfing, it is the SWITCH. That’s windsurfing without waves, as the tube/rod battens are not suited to wave crashing, but for everything else people like to do, it’s the tops. Speed blasting, bump-n-jump, power tricks, even a little freestyle, all fit with the specialized design character of this six batten joy to sail. Always light for the size, SWITCH. feels perfect for hours of total fun.
TR-8 & TR-8XT After the major step and significant outline and shaping changes of the TR-7, we have dedicated this season’s development to tuning and perfecting the tension, profile, and twist relationships in order to present a finely tuned and polished TR-8 race sail. We achieved the goal to increase wind range and top speed by a combination of better balance and stability, together with improved control in gusts.
REBEL The Rebel is designed to enhance the developing skills and highly experimental nature of kids. By generating confidence because the sail is so calm and easy to handle, they will progress faster.
INSPIRE The Inspire is for easy sailing to enhance the developing skills of the beginner and first time Sailors.
BLAZE & TITANGS share family history. successful two and three cam narrow sleeve design for Blaze and wide sleeve for TitanGS. The lineage of both sails is carried through in the similar feel and excellent low end characteristics we aim for in this seven batten form. The best of the easy handling and softness is found in both sails, with the essential difference being the sleeve dimension and rigging style.
ALOHA. The light weight and responsive five batten Aloha delivers highly developed performance and value both in form and function.
PURSUIT has a wide range to handle a broad variety of conditions, and the light weight always makes it easier to spend more time sailing with ease of waterstart a prime benefit.
LOCO. ‘Softer’ and ‘tighter’ may not seem to fit together, and Taty’s request for a slightly flatter top added to that challenge, we took the logic for that and turned it into reality. The softness comes from slightly reduced total mast bend, with emphasis on the upper sections, and the tightness develops from changes to the body shaping to increase mid-leech tension. The result, to quote Taty, “SICKKKK! You got the POP!”

Using moulds developed and owned by MauiSails, and designs with unique bends and diameters, assures that our full range of carbon booms is exclusive to MauiSails in every regard. All plastic parts are designed, developed, and molded to create these special products, the recognized highest standard of carbon booms in the windsurfing industry today.
It's been many years with the graphic unchanged and along the way we have been continuously improving small details. The adjustment clips have gone through a big evolution to prevent the corrosion that affected them (we had to chrome plate the 316SS pins!), and the clip bodies were made stronger as well.
The MauiSails philosophy of designing complete high performance windsurfing rigs includes our Performance Aluminum Boom range.The MauiSails Team has pioneered innovative features which bring value and performance to the aluminum boom component.
At the top of the features list is our unique Front End design, the result of more than two years of development. The MauiSails Front End began as a Carbon Race Boom specific design, but has been cleverly adapted to our Performance Aluminum Boom range.
Adding to the performance advantage of the MauiSails Front End is the Team’s selection of heat treated T-8 stiffness aluminum boom arms with specific bends for each model in the Performance Aluminum Boom range. Testing to discover the optimum boom curves to maximize the best performance and range of any sails has defined the curves of the MauiSails Performance Aluminum Boom. A super durable Boom Grip with comfortable 32 mm outside diameter, makes the Performance Aluminum Boom a joy to hang on to for extended windsurfing sessions.
Continuous Back Ends are designed to deliver the optimum stiffness to weight at the back of the boom. Convenient Loop and Go outhaul attachments are on the smaller sizes and triple pulley setups with integrated cleats for adjustable outhaul system adaptability are available in the longer models. A Single Push Pin adjustment is matched to length indicated back ends with 50 cm range for ease of use and precise fit to the outhaul dimension of the sail.

The MauiSails SRS masts are the core of your rig. MauiSails SRS constant curve masts produce energy like a coiled spring. They flex consistently and react fast. This promotes even tension along the entire leech and develops even pressure over the entire rig. The reward is the release of stored energy as you accelerate. By design, the relationship of sail and mast is guaranteed when both are imagined as one.
By integrating the ferrule structure into the lay-up of the lower section of the mast, and by building on specialized two-piece mandrels using high modulus prepreg carbon, we are able to favorably influence the weight/strength ratio. Controlled high temperature curing guarantees maximum durability.
Use of the proper mast (Synergy Rig System) produces a steady, light feeling rig that comes from having the foil at the correct angle of attack, regardless of the changing pressure on the rig.

Small adjustments to the layup and material specs were made for the Race 190-240, and for this year, there is a wide tail slalom version of the Slalom 170-230 (the tail piece retrofits both the Wave 170 and 140). The new grip design is a 'statement' for 2012, and also has less pieces and a slightly harder character to improve durability.
So the boom is 'new' in a sense, but it is still the same old super strong, stiff, perfectly shaped one you might have known before.
