YOU ARE THINKING, “BUT SOME PEOPLE CLEARLY HAVE MORE TALENT THAN OTHERS”You say, “Beethoven was a musical legend because of a combination of natural talent and hard work.”

I agree, but we must compliment the effort, and not the natural ability.

Otherwise, when a student reaches a challenge and fails then he or she will believe that the failure is a

result of ability, not practice.

That mindset will make the student turn down challenges and avoid mistakes because every mistake signals a lack of ability rather than a need to learn or practice more.

Students want to see a reward for reading – hence the success of a program like Accelerated Reader.

Teaching a growth mindset makes the reward intrinsic because students believe they are strengthening their brain like a muscle.

Challenge: Every teacher has a different approach to spirituality and frames it in a different way. Students hear a lot of inspiring and meaningful material, but it does not stick because of inconsistency.

After the first mass of each month a teacher or student will present on the word using some sort of visual or audio aid like a student skit, video, or song.

During the month of the word, teachers will be logging student examples of the value within the school and the community.

After the last mass of the month certain students will be recognized for living out the value. There will be no set number on students, with a minimum of one for the whole school.

Once a semester or quarter there could be a school-wide event to demonstrate the value.
