Pre-installation Checklist •  Before proceeding to setup Desktop SMS, please ensure the

following requirements are met :-Your PC has been installed with Microsoft Outlook 2010/2013. (Only Outlook 2010 and 2013 are supported and not other Outlook versions)-Your PC runs Windows 7 or higher-Your PC is connected to the InternetA pop-up prompt may appear to ask you to download the Microsoft .NET framework if your PC does not already have this. Please follow the prompts to proceed to download and install this if so.

User Account •  You should have received a welcome email containing your User

Account ID and Password.

This ID and Password is required to use Desktop SMS.

Download installer •  Logon to https://s-esms.maxis.net.my and download Desktop SMS

v5

Run installer •  Double click the Desktop SMS installer to start the installation.

Follow the steps prompted by the installer to complete the installation.

A pop-up prompt may appear to ask you to download the Microsoft .NET framework if your PC does not already have this. Please follow the prompts to proceed to download and install this if so.

Account Setup •  Once the installer completes, Start Outlook.

You should now see the Desktop SMS Toolbar in main menu under Outlook’s Home tab

•  Click on “Account Setup” from the Desktop SMS Menu and enter your account details.

•  Please ignore the Proxy settings unless your company is using a Proxy Server in the network.

Sending SMS •  Click on the “Send SMS”

button on the toolbar to launch the Send SMS Window. You can enter mobile number manually or select from your Outlook Address Book by clicking the ‘To’ button.

•  Please note that your ‘Sender ID’ shown is prefixed to each message you send out to identify yourself. This value can only be changed by your administrator.

Sending Chinese SMS •  Desktop SMS supports Chinese messages. You need to enable the

Chinese Language toolbar in Windows or use a third-party Chinese input tool to enter the Chinese characters. (See Appendix on how to enable Chinese input on your PC)

Sending Long Messages •  Please note that you are able to send a long message of more than

160 Roman characters and have this arrive on your recipient's mobile phones as a single message.

•  For messages of more than Roman 160 characters, each 153 characters will be billed as 1 message.

•  This feature is supported for Maxis numbers only.

Sent SMS folder •  All messages sent via Desktop SMS are logged into a “Sent SMS”

folder, which can be found within the “Sent Items” folder in Outlook

Replying SMS Messages •  Recipients will receive your SMS message as shown below. They

can reply to the SMS message directly and the reply will reach your email inbox.

Receiving a SMS reply •  You will see SMS replies in your Email Inbox as follows:

When a mobile user sends you an SMS reply, you will receive this as an email in your inbox. The sender’s mobile number will appear in the subject field and his SMS message in the email body.

Appendix: Enabling Chinese character Input in Windows

•  On your computer, go to Control Panel> Regional and Language, and click on ‘Change keyboards or other input methods’

•  Under the “Keyboards and Languages” tab, select “Change Keyboards” and click ‘Add’ to choose your preferred Chinese input method.
