PROCLAIM THE GOSPEL Today we celebrate one of the tenets of our creed: that the Lord ascended into heaven. From Mark’s Gospel we hear the final words Jesus spoke to his disciples shortly before he ascended into heaven. Those were words of commissioning, no less real for us today than they were to the disciples then. We are called to “proclaim the gospel to every creature.” For the vast majority of us, this means that we proclaim the gospel by the witness of our everyday lives. Treating others with dignity and respect, providing for those less fortunate than our-selves, being good stewards of the many gifts showered on us, coming together as God’s family in worship and praise—these are all signs that the gospel has taken root in our lives.
TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven (Acts 1:1-11). Psalm — God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord (Psalm 47). Second Reading — God seated Jesus at his right hand in the heavens (Ephesians 1:17-23) or Ephesians 4:1-13 [1-7, 11-13]. Gospel — The Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God (Mark 16:15-20).

Volunteers will be checking blood pressures next weekend after the 5 p.m., 8 a.m. and 10 a.m Masses. High blood pressure is known as a “Silent Killer” since very often the individual experiences no symptoms. Getting your blood pressure checked is a short and simple health screening that you should do regularly. Plan to stop in the back of Church next weekend. Remember, it is a quick way to moni-tor your health!
Religious Education News Registration is now open for the 2015-2016 year. If you have a child you would like to enroll in the program, you may pick up registration forms at the Parish Office or on-line at the Saint Thecla website. They should be returned to the Parish Office before the end of May so we can plan for next year. A copy of the Baptism cer-tificate is required when you register. All those wishing to receive a sacrament (First Communion or Confir-mation) must be in a program for two years prior to receiving the sacrament.
Deacon John’s will preach at all the Masses next weekend: Let us join together in thanking him for 13 years of dedicated and faithful service to the Church through our parish. A deacon’s time of service (like the priests) is marked with term limits and we are awaiting word on where he will be reassigned. After the 10am Mass the Athletic Council hosts a reception in Russo Hall.
Music Ministry: We encourage students (including high school and college) who play an instrument or have a vocal talent to consider presenting a musical selection at any of the 10 AM Masses. Please contact Aaron Dixon for more information. 773-792-3077 x203 [email protected]
St. Thecla hosts a “Blue Mass” for all Chicago police officers, firefighters, paramedics and 9-1-1 opera-tors/dispatchers on Sunday May 31st at the 10:00am Mass.

We proudly share the results of our students’ Terra Nova achievement test. St. Thecla’s National Percen-tiles are the national percentile of the mean normal curve equivalent score. The average student scores at the 50th percentile of the specific grade level assessment. When reading dat using national percentile, one would say that St. Thecla’s 6th grade class scored higher in science than 90% of the other 6th graders taking the test nationally; only 10% of students nationally scored higher that St. Thecla’ 6th grade class.
I am pleased and honored to inform the community that the following St. Thecla students are winners of the Knights of Columbus Essay Contest. Alexandra Trekas took 1st place! Abbie Alonzo, Rachel Dietz, and Sean Moriarty were all awarded with honorable mention.
The good news keeps on coming! I am also pleased to inform our community that Rachel Dietz and Morgan McCarthy have been awarded Block Family Foundation Scholarships at Resurrection College Prep HS. This scholarship recognizes the top ten entrance exam test scorers. Congrats Rachel and Morgan!
Congratulations to our new National Junior Honor Society members. Briana Broderick, Maeve Sheedy, Madison Kaup, Abby Kupka, Emily Schutt, Nicholas Trekas, and Colin Weber were inducted after the an-nual 8th grade Ribbon Mass. We are all very proud of their academic and charitable accomplishments.

St Thecla’s Women’s Council proudly presents their “2015 Woman of the Year,” Luella Mader.
Luella has been a member of St Thecla parish since 1952. Her education includes having graduated from St Thecla grammar school, Cardinal Stritch High School and accounting classes from Northwestern Univer-sity. Recently, Luella had lost her husband, Bob, of 54 years. Together they reared their two sons, Danny and Gregory and served their parish unselfishly for many, many years. Some highlights of Luella’s service include: Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts; assisted with pancake breakfasts for 12 years, was treasurer for 10 years, and served on the Mostaccioli Dinner committee for 5 years. For our parish and school; room mom, finance and raffle committees for the Carnival fundraiser, Booster Club, hostess for the blood drives, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and serves as the Collection Counter Captain. For St Thecla’s Women’s Council; continues serving as Treasurer for approxi-mately 21 years, works at the annual Rummage Sale, the Holiday Craft and Gift Show and is always avail-able when the Council hosts events. Without hesitation, she is always available to offer a helping hand. For St. Thecla Leisure Club she has served as Treasurer for the past 10 years and assists in Senior Network-ing (a new venture that combines the senior clubs from various parishes.) Most importantly, we value Luella’s friendship. Her character, morals and values exemplify what a Catholic Woman should be. Luella never thought that she should be considered for this award. She believes all that she did was just helping out whenever she could.
Well, Luella, that is precisely why we honor you today as St Thecla’s “Woman of the Year.” Your generos-ity and kindness does not go unnoticed. Congratulations, Luella Mader. Wypycha, który udzielił Sakramentu Bierzmowania młodzieży klas ósmych. Odbyły się już ostatnie za-jęcia zespołu artystycznego na których gościliśmy p.dyrektor i rodziców. Były podziękowania i życzenia z okazji zbliżającego się Dnia Matki i Dnia Ojca.

Marriages: The Pastoral Guidelines for Marriage Preparation for the Archdiocese of Chicago ask that a minimum of 4 months be set aside for personal preparation for marriage.
