MASS TIMES ST IGNATIUS Toowong: Weekdays 5.30pm every afternoon; Saturday 9.00am & 6.00pm (Vigil); Sunday 7.00am & 5.00pm. Reconciliation: Saturday after 9.00am Mass and from 5.15pm to 5.45pm, or by appointment. HOLY SPIRIT Auchenflower: Weekdays 9.00am Monday, Wednesday & Friday; Sunday 8.30am Pentecost brings Easter season to a climax. Little wonder that today’s readings bring together many of the Easter themes. The risen Lord has taken his place at the right hand (the place of honour) of God and has sent his Spirit to ‘renew the face of the earth’. ‘The earth is renewed each time rivalries are resolved, distinctions are recognised as merely expressions of diversity, peace is restored, comfort and solace are offered, and forgiveness is granted’. Jesus speaks of the Spirit who will take his place. This ‘Spirit of truth’ comes from the Father, but is sent by Jesus. The Spirit is called an Advocate, a defense counsel. The Advocate’s task is to witness in the hearts of the disciples, who will then be able to witness outwardly to what they have experienced. The Spirit will not teach them new things, but lead them deeper into the mystery of Jesus. The Spirit will help them understand ‘the things to come’: new situations which have to be discerned in the light of Jesus and his message. In this way the Spirit leads the disciples closer to Jesus and, through Jesus, to the Father. Pentecost brings Easter season to a climax. Little wonder that today’s readings bring together many of the Easter themes. The risen Lord has taken his place at the right hand (the place of honour) of God and has sent his Spirit to ‘renew the face of the earth’. ‘The earth is renewed each time rivalries are

resolved, distinctions are recognised as merely expressions of diversity, peace is restored, comfort and solace are offered, and forgiveness is granted’. OUR MISSION PRAYER

We, the St Ignatius community, are called to live the good news. We pray that we become the people that Jesus Christ called us to be. We pray that we know the Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit

through knowing Jesus in prayer, scripture and liturgy. We pray that we give hope to others by a practical, personal kindness, affirming each person's dignity, worth and destiny in Christ. May we live out this mission of our Christian vocation in the spirit of St. Ignatius.

When the signs of age begin to mark the body (and still more when they touch my mind); when all the ill that is to diminish me or carry me off or is born from within; when the painful moment comes in which I suddenly awaken to the fact that I am ill or growing old; and above all at the last moment when I feel I am losing hold of myself and am absolutely passive within the hands of the great unknown forces that have formed me; in all these dark moments, O God, grant that I may understand that it is you (provided only that my faith is strong enough) who are painfully parting the fibres of my being in order to penetrate to the very marrow of my sub-

stance and bear me away within yourself.

Teilhard de Chardin.

Ageing Gracefully
