CORRECTIONS: Letter from Phi Kappa Phi president, Tay-

lor Anderson, regarding a March 2009 misprint: “False allegations were made against the local Pi Kappa Phi Chapter on campus in the March issue of this publication. An article titled ‘Coffin and What?’ by Daniel Hansen, alleges that Albert Je-rome Santos, who drowned in 2002, was a ‘pledge’ of Pi Kappa Phi at the time. These allegations are entirely false. Santos was pledging the fraternity Pi Kappa Alpha, which has no affiliation with Pi Kappa Phi and no longer exists on this campus. According to the Associated Press stories of the time, Santos had been participating in an event, which involved swimming in Manzanita Lake. Pi Kappa Phi was quick to deny allegations of being involved in these events.

‘We have a strict non-hazing policy which we adhere to with the utmost seriousness,’ said Taylor Anderson, the president of the chapter on campus. ‘We weren’t even colonized on campus until 2005.’

‘The National Council and Supreme Chapter

of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity unequivocally oppose all acts of hazing in any form and under any cir-cumstance,’ reads the fraternities’ stance on haz-ing on their national Web site. ‘Any member of the Fraternity found guilty of committing acts of haz-ing will be immediately expelled.’ The members of Pi Kappa Phi at the University would like to thank Insight Magazine for making every effort to work with the Chapter in correcting the mistake.”

In ‘Stealing a Base of her Own’ from Febru-ary 2009, Jennifer Ring was incorrectly identified as an associate professor of political science at the University of Nevada, Reno. Ring is a professor.

In ‘Second-hand fashion: thrift and vintage,’ from March 2009, Melanie Flores was incorrectly identified as a UNR student. Flores is a local radio personality and not a student. In ‘Entitlement IX’ from March 2009 the story should have also credited writer Kara LaPoint as an author.

Insight Magazine apologizes for its errors. If you have found a mistake or misprint, please contact the editor at [email protected].

| JustIn zaBrIskIe | Due date stamps fill an entire library due date card. | megan matthers | Americans are dealing with a struggling economy, desperate financial situations, loss of personal equity, etc. But in this time of uncertainty we are still neglecting the abundant amount of resources and wasted thrift we take for granted every day. The Getchell Library closed its doors in the fall of 2008 for the opening of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. Throughout the vacant library, there remains an abundant number of leftover office supplies, decorations and remnants of human life.
