Family-Based

On January 18th of this year, the KGP Compa-nies’ family said goodbye to one of the original authors of our 40 year history when my dad, Dale Putrah, Sr., passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by our family. While it has, undoubtedly, been a dicult time, it has also provided us an opportunity to step back from the normal everyday routine and reect back on his life and his signicant contributions to what is now KGP Companies, KGP Logistics and BlueStream Professional Services.

The foundation of KGP Companies was cre-ated over forty years ago when my parents, Dale and Kathie Putrah, launched Dale Putrah and Associates as a manufacturer’s rep rm in rural Minnesota. A few years later they launched Great Lakes Telephone Supply, a distributor of telecommunications products.

After selling Great Lakes in 1984, my dad sup-ported my mom in the creating of KGP Tele-communications, Inc., which has led to what is now KGP Companies. They started from their garage, found opportunity, worked incredibly hard, hired wonderful people, and developed valued relationships.

Today, with over 1,900 employees, KGP Com-panies is a thriving and relevant business with an eye to the future. The solid foundation of our company is a humbling testament to his many sacrices.

With this reection also comes the recognition of the inherent responsibility we have to carry forward the values my dad ingrained in all of us through his life, words and actions. Most notable, was his innate and sincere passion of always going above and beyond to serve our

Customers. This principal was non-negotiable and remains the distinguishing characteristic of our KGP culture today.

My dad cared deeply for the industry and our business. He put his heart and mind into ensur-ing we were positioned to be successful both today and tomorrow. We continue to embrace and honor his legacy by moving forward in this time of intense change, never wavering in our commitment to our Customers and our supplier partners.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Sincerely,

“Concerts and sporting events will always push the limits of the mobile network.” That’s what Kevin Fitchard, wireless wunderkind at influential blog, GigaOM, reported in mid-2012. When you consider that 99% of smart-phones support Wi-Fi – according to ABI Research -- it only makes sense that Wi-Fi should be part of the solution. So, what makes these big venues so hard to cover and why don’t the usual approaches used in enterprise WLAN deployment do the trick? Having designed the wireless network that supported the London Olympic Stadium – among others – Ericsson has unique, hands-on perspective of the challenges that big events place on mobile networks, and how to address them. It also helps that 50% of the world’s smartphone traffic is on Ericsson net-works.

A stadium Wi-Fi network is all about improving the game day experience, from the time fans pull into the park-ing lot for the tailgate party, while they move from the entrances, and through the concession areas (even in washroom lineups) and throughout the bowl. Stadium Wi-Fi is about encouraging and enabling stadium-based social networking. It empowers fans through smartphone and tablet apps. And, it enables stadium operators to replicate the home experience – including multi-view camera angles and instant replays – for fans in the seats and suites.

Stadium Wi-Fi -- It’s not your

From a network perspective, a stadium is not a typical enterprise. Stadium Wi-Fi networks have unique cov-erage, capacity and business requirements. It’s a highly dynamic and almost entirely bring-your-own-device (BYOD) environment that requires more than just adjusting AP power levels and antenna beamwidth or limiting the number of connected devices. Lessons learned from live networks show that those tactics are a good start. But, stadiums need more radio frequency (RF), internet protocol (IP) and self-optimizing network (SON) features than were ever anticipated in even the busiest enterprise network. On the RF side, rate adaption algorithms opti-mized for high-collision environments and fully customizable transmission rate tables are just two of the stadium optimization features needed to ensure a great user experience. From an IP perspective, per network QoS, policy and security management including rate limiting in Mbps allows venue operators to provide a customized user experience. SON features such as automatic neighbor detec-tion, load balancing and automated chan-nel selection improve network planning and performance while mitigating interference. Those features are just a sampling of the list of technical considerations and optimizations made to address stadium environments. And, of course, it’s critical that the Wi-Fi network work in harmony with the cellular network. Ericsson’s vast experience in collocating and integrating Wi-Fi with cellular networks led to product refinements that ensure optimization of both networks.

In addition to their highly dynamic and BYOD nature, Stadium Wi-Fi net-works are also differentiated by their requirement to support multiple user groups and a range of dierent business models on one network. And, one stadium actually represents multiple Wi-Fi deployment sce-narios including outdoor coverage of the parking area, indoor retail, of-fices and locker rooms, and, of course, the unique bowl environment. Check out the Ericsson AP 5114, a Stadium Wi-Fi access point designed to address the very demanding bowl environment.

KGP Logistics Signs Agreement with Corning MobileAccess to DistributeIn-Building Cellular Solutions We are pleased to announce that Corning MobileAccess, a business unit of the Corning Telecom group and a global provider of carrier and enterprise wireless solutions, will be distributing their solutions with KGP Logistics. As a long-standing proven distributor for Corning Telecom, KGP Logistics will now market and distribute the full line of Corning MobileAccess distributed antenna systems solutions.

With Corning MobileAccess’ industry-leading solu-tions, KGP Logistics can oer regional operators flexible and scalable in-building cellular solutions that can deliver their cellular service to customers.

Corning MobileAccess’ oerings consist of the MobileAccess1000 and 2000 product lines. For venues requiring single operator support the MobileAccess1000 provides a cost-effective modular solution. A multi-band system on the MobileAccess1000 combines a number of services, voice and data, and distributes them to each remote location within the venue through a common antenna infrastructure. Wireless RF services are transmitted between the capacity source and remote locations using low-loss fiber and broadband coax.

For venues requiring multiple operator support the MobileAccess2000 provides a cost-effective modular solution. MobileAccess2000 accommodates multiple operator requirements across a single converged network. This comprehensive and flexible solution enables wireless RF services distribu-tion via a fiber backbone and a single set of coaxial cables and broadband antennas that deliver the widest variety of wireless services from 400 MHz to 6 GHz over one infrastructure.

The MobileAccess1000 and MobileAccess2000 Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) also offer flex-ible remote power options to address optimal cost-effective designs. The MobileAccessHX is a mid-power, remote solution for the MobileAccess1000 and 2000 platforms. This fiber-fed, quad-service remote offers indoor and outdoor coverage solutions for various site requirements.

MobileAccess 1000

Flexible Multi-Service CoverageThe single operator MobileAccess1000 of-fers reliable and robust facility-wide wireless coverage over a single, broadband infra-structure. The solution uses service-specific, chassis-based modules that automatically groom wireless signals, providing the ampli-cation and interference mitigation neces-sary to maintain signal strength and quality of service in a variety of medium to large-scale environments. Up to four wireless ser-vices, including MIMO, are supported on a single infrastructure.

MobileAccess 2000

Scalable Multi-Operator CoverageThe MobileAccess2000 is a worry-free in-build-ing wireless coverage platform, delivering multi-service, multi-operator wireless coverage over a single, broadband infrastructure. With Wire-it-OnceTM architecture, the MobileAccess2000 uses service-specific, chassis-based modules that automatically groom wireless signals, in order to maintain signal strength and quality in large-scale, multi-operator and multi-service environments. With this modularity, customers can introduce new wireless services or activate new operator services at any time without re-wiring the passive network in the ceilings.

“Corning MobileAccess in-building cellular solutions expands our operator offering in the wireless space. We are excited to grow our relationship with Corning and see the in-building cellular market as a thriving area of our business,” said Marc Bollick Vice President, Product and Marketing for KGP Logistics.

Surge Suppressors and Uninterruptible Power Supplies from PREMIERYOUR FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE AGAINST SUMMER STORMS.

Spring storms bring lightning, power outages and increases in power problems. Surge Suppressors and Uninterruptible Power Supplies can help guard you and/or your customer against the spikes and outages Mother Nature brings each year and offer you power protection for all aspects of your business, including work-stations, telecom and security systems.

PREMIER® offers Surge Suppressors from ITW Linx, Minuteman and CyberPower and Uninterruptible Power Supplies from CyberPower and Minuteman. So, what’s standing between your equipment and the next storm front headed your way?

✦ AC SURGE SUPPRESSORS To protect AC lines from catastrophic surges and spikes

✦ UPS (UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLIES)

A full line of battery backup systems for Fiber-to-the-home and CPE applications (PC, key systems, PBX’s, networks, etc.)

T hese days everybody has jumped on the same band(width)wagon. The rising demand for

enhanced broadband and network access improvements is putting pressure on Telcos to expedite upgrades.

KGP Logistics’ Integration Center can make the process more economical and ecient with proven, value-added turnkey solutions that save installation time and money. The answer, in many cases, is pre-assembled, fully wired and tested integrated cabinets or integrated rack and stack solutions.

Instead of the Customer receiving pallets of materials that need to be opened, sorted, checked, inspected, tested and connected, they get a completely integrated cabinet ready to be connected to the transport cables and put into service. More importantly, technician workload time can be cut by up to 80%.

For the ultimate in integrated cabinet solutions, KGP can take that fully integrated cabinet and mount it to a concrete pad along with a power pedestal and cross-connect. The entire unit is shipped direct to the Customer site ready to be put into the ground. KGP can also provide on-site excavation, installation and splicing to the network.

This express method of deployment means that KGP can build the cabinet, put it on a pad, place it in the ground, turn it up, and have service on it, before an invoice ever gets to the customer.

When it comes to customer premise equipment, such as modems, routers, and gateways, KGP can develop and/or load custom congurations. These congurations allow Customers to customize the appearance and performance of the device and also help in eliminating truck rolls and service calls.

KGP greatly reduces technician on-site time because, in many cases, the modems can be delivered direct to the end user for plug and play.

Currently, almost 60% of all modems, routers and gateways sold by KGP Logistics go through our Integration Center for custom congurations.

Another valuable service KGP provides is reverse logistics. Basically, this is a pathway by which Customers can return equipment to KGP for refurbishing, testing, cleaning and repackaging.

This good-as-original, refurbished equipment can be re-deployed by the Customer for a fraction of the cost of new equipment, and there is minimal material waste to negatively impact the environment.

KGP Logistics’ Integration Center serves as a reliable resource to Customers for a variety of services. Whether to minimize install time, eliminate waste or drastically reduce manpower expenses, KGP is your turnkey provider partner.
