A new project
More than 90 people at-tended the Grand Opening for the CRRC Senior Center at the organization’s Event Center, on Thursday, May 19.
Executive Director Darin Zumwalt said the opening was the culmina-tion of weeks of work and planning. But it was also the doorway to an idea he had over a year ago.
Funded by a grant from the McKenna Foundation, Zumwalt hopes the center will become a regular social gathering place for seniors. He hopes to provide hot meals at least once a week, as well.
“I think our seniors are need-ing a place to get together,”
Wow, it’s less than a month away! So, mark your calen-dars for Satur-day, June 18th. It’s the second annual Double Dip Dance (non-stop dancing!), but the whole
day is going to be filled with raucous fun!
With volunteers from the VFW Post 8573, here in Sattler, we are putting together a Motorcycle
Rally and a BBQ din-ner. Come join us for either, for both, or, for all three! Make it a CRRC fun-
filled day! All activities will be at the Rec
Center, starting at 9:00 a.m. The dance will conclude at midnight. So, the place will be hopping, all day long!
Check out the website at www.dddrrbbq.org.
Zumwalt said. “This gives them just that. And, there are plenty of ac-
tivities for them, and we’re making plans for more.” Organizers Susan Logue and Suzi Ingram worked long and hard to put to-gether door prizes. “We
couldn’t have done it without the gen-erosity of our local businesses,” Susan said.
For now, the Senior Center is open on Thursdays, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. For more information, stop in!

Terrific Tuesday is better! Every Tuesday something
new is on sale. Is it the barn merchandise? Will it be all kitchen items? It might be anything with
flowers on it! Stop in to see, OR, sign in to
our Facebook page. Yup, Terrific Tuesday is
better than ever!
Many Thanks to: Glass Doctor of New Braunfels
For replacing the glass door at the Thrift Store for no charge!
It takes a community to help a com-munity, and in Canyon Lake we have just that going on. We are blessed to live in one of the most giving commu-nities in the country.
Local folks provided more than $5,000 in cash and pledges, to help the CRRC Food Pantry gain a share of the $1 million being given by the Feinstein Foundation of Rhode Island.
CRRC Boosters have also donated $450 toward the dock project for the pantry, which will enhance the food deliveries from the San Antonio Food Bank.
Every Tuesday and Thursday, vol-unteers gather at the CRRC Main Of-fice to drive Meals on Wheels out to many homebound residents. (We are
needing some substitute drivers for the
summer. Let us know if you’re avail-
able! Call Maureen, at 964-2324.)

Small Business Marketing Program
Sparks Ideas for Thrift Store
Did we hear the boss say, “Uh-oh!” ?? Possibly. After Maureen
Schein, resource program director, and Lisa Walzem, thrift store man-
ager, attended a small business marketing seminar at GVTC, they
came home with some creative ideas. So, keep an eye out. We’re not
letting out any of the plans. Oh, the flags. No. That was HIS idea. We
like it, but we’ve got different things planned!
Many thanks to those who put food out for our postal carriers to pick up on Saturday, May 14.
In addition to their regular duties of delivering the mail, letter carriers all across the country did the opposite of their regular chores; they picked things up. This amounted to about 1,500 pounds of canned goods, boxed food items and other non-perishable items being stocked onto the CRRC Food Pantry shelves.
About 165 pounds of food also came in from Curves mem-bers as a result of the April food drive at their facility.
These foods will help the food pantry to handle the anticipated increase for food assistance that usually comes every summer.
Postal Pickup Produces Pretty Pile of Pounds of Provisions
Watch out! The Thrift Store may have extended hours this summer.
Watch for our flags.
