As we chase geese off of the front lawn, clean up our building and grounds during Spring Clean-up
Day, put in the docks during Dock-in Days, and prepare for Clam Bake, the GTYC is ready for May. Thank
you very much to the GTYC volunteers who have participated in Spring Clean-up and Dock-in Days. We
had a fun time completing many work projects.
April closed out Crew Night Dinners with Texas Night last Friday. Thank you to the crew of Relent-
less for providing us a fun evening with delicious BBQ smells pouring out of the kitchen. The GTYC also
hosted the USCG Appreciation Night during April, which was a huge hit with our Members and the families
of the Coast Guard. It was an honor to recognize Commander Spaner and the men and women of Air Sta-
tion Traverse City. I hope that this event becomes a GTYC tradition.
Interior Committee survey results are tallied, and in accordance with Committee recommendation
based upon the results, the Board has voted for the GTYC to obtain a Cruisers Chart Display and a pool
table. We look forward to the Donors’ Plaque display and other Interior Committee plans and projects un-
derway.
Clam Bake is this Friday – May 6. As usual, it should be a great time for all. We will be hosting a
New Members reception on Friday May 20, and look forward to formally welcoming our new members into
the club. The Social Committee has planned a Road Rally in conjunction with our first distance race for Sat-
urday May 21.
Racing begins this week with a Wednesday night warm-up race and Spring Series starts May 11.
We will host a Laser Spring Regatta on Saturday May 14. I will be announcing a new four regatta series
shortly including the GTYC, BCYC, CYC and LTYC signature regattas. Stay tuned for the exciting new rac-
ing opportunity!
It is a pleasure to finally be able to say….see you on the water before I see you in the Club!
Best regards,
Katie Horvath

DOCK IN DAY, on Saturday 30 April 2011 the GTYC dock-in crew braved the
combination of a overcast sky, strong east wind, cold temperatures, and wet con-
ditions to make sure all is ready for spring racing.
Black wet suits and brown waders and snorkels were the preferred fashion. Blue
lips and pale skin were the prominent color worn by the participants. It was a good turn-out,
and Jim Dye is taking reservations for the Fall when the docks have to be moved once again. Jim
urges all GTYC members to sign up now and avoid the rush. –George Kobernus

A Plead to Sailors,
Some area high school sailors are struggling to provide adequate cold weather gear for our spring sailing sea-

We are only looking for old, used stuff that people may no longer use, need or want. Our High School
competitors would be grateful to receive any of the following items: smocks, rain gear, booties, gloves, hoodies,
dry suits, etc.
If you have any of the above, and want to unload it, please drop it off in the bid at the club or contact
Sally Rivard, [email protected], for pick up.
With gratitude,
