The mission of the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is to improve the quality of life of Marine families that support a member with a spe-cial need. A key component to assisting our EFMP families is our educational outreach.
The EFMP’s educational outreach strives to pro-vide meaningful workshops for families that will help educate and empower them to be the best possible
advocate for their excep-tional family member. The EFMP holds regular-ly scheduled workshops and support groups for our EFMP families. We have monthly workshops and support groups held at Henderson Hall in the
Building #12 Conference Room on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 11 AM to 1 PM. Please note that units or family groups can always request a special onsite EFMP brief or workshop at any time.
The topic for the workshop in May is Introduction to Virginia Medicaid Waivers-Navigating the System.
EFMP Educational Outreach
It will be presented by Moms In Motion, which is an organization that provides case management services for Medicaid Waiver enrollees. This session will provide attendees with a thorough overview of Virginia Medicaid Waivers.
A recent addition to our workshops is food! Navy Mutual Aid As-sociation is now sponsoring our workshops by providing free lunch refreshments for participants. Navy Mutual is also providing lunch re-freshment sponsorship for our quarterly workshop and support group held at the CBIRF/Indian Head USO Center at 14 Strauss Ave, Indian Head, Maryland. Our next workshop at CBIRF is entitled PCS: Positive Change of Schools and will be held on June 10, from 11 AM to 1 PM. The EFMP will partner with the School Liaison to give parents practi-cal tips on how to help smooth the school transition for their child with special needs.
Topics for other workshops offered though the year are Special Education 101, Planning a Special Needs Move, Exceptional Siblings: Parenting the Sibling of a Child with Special Needs, and EFMP Basics.
For more information about our EFMP workshops, support groups, and other events, email us at [email protected] or visit our web-site at http://mccshh.com/EFMP.html.
