A DIVINE ALIGNMENT

D ivine Alignment…what strikes me about these two words is that in order to be in ‘divine alignment’ with God, something or someone has to change it’s course. The

word alignment means: “in correct or appropriate relative positions” or “a position of agreement

or alliance” . Two thing going in different directions or locked on a different course can

never be in divine alignment.

I see so many people trying to take the Word of God and make it align with what they want. But the truth of the matter is, in order to be in ‘divine alignment’, WE must change our course and align ourselves to the Word of God. God is the same yesterday, today and forever, he does not and will not bow to YOUR will. YOU must bow to His.

Are you in alignment with God? Is your lifestyle one that God would approve of? Do you handle your money in a way that pleases God? Do your hobbies bring pleasure to God? Only you can answer these questions honestly. All I know is...there needs to be a divine alignment and position of our hearts and minds SO THAT, the things of God can and will be accomplished in our midst.

Here is a word to our church body which talks about alignment...

“I sensed from the Lord that a proper positioning and a divine alignment had

taken place in your church body. This positioning has been done with care by

the Lord, the way that NASA would position a rocket destined for space,

making sure that it was not off one tiniest degree before it was blasted off

with great force, with the trajectory perfectly aligned to go where it needs to

go and no where else! Also, the sense of a large ship whose keel was set in

the right place after navigating rocky and turbulent waters, it could now be

set to straight ahead, full steam ahead -not that you wouldn’t work hard, but

you are in a position of ‘divine rest’ (Hebrews 4:11 Let us, therefore, make

every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience)

They keys I felt were worship, worship, worship, your unending ministry of love

to the Lord Himself in word and deed – exalting HIS name which is above

every other Name – and continuing to be people of no compromise. After Art

spoke about prayer and fasting, I felt this was a very, very significant part of

the proper positioning for your body.”

Mark is best described as a passionate lover of God, and His presence, with a longing for the nation of Canada to be filled with His glory. Like a modern day John the Baptist in the wilderness on the outskirts of the city of Ottawa, Mark has been a voice calling the church to return to their First Love to the place where it’s all about the Lord. Mark teaches the church as well as those in the marketplace it’s time to get out of the pew and back into His presence …that we can do nothing without Him (John 15:5). Mark has been a guest on the Miracle Channel explaining what he believes are the keys to revival through prayer.

Mark will be visiting us here in Kitimat in May to declare the Word of the Lord. Mark moves in pro-phetic utterances and the Word of Knowledge. Come on out and hear what Mark has to declare over Kitimat and The Harvest.

The Legacy of Rebekah: Dishonesty always reaps distress. Mistakes made by mothers seem to be particularly deadly, because mothers are trusted so instinctively. Mothers are meant to be the guardians and restorers of relationships within a family. Rebekah abdicated her responsibility by setting deceitful havoc in motion. Her entire family suffered the ill effects. Rebekah lost much more than she gained. Her example warns us of the dangers of running ahead of God, not wait-ing for Him to act.

Many of us carry a grudge against one parent or other that ties our relationship in knots and follows us to our grave. Making peace is the essence of trusting God in relationships. Jesus blessed the peace makers. (Matt 5:9) He taught us that even when we have been wronged, we are to take whatever steps we can to heal the schism and restore harmony. (Matt. 18:15) A thoughtful study of Rebekah’ family leads us to ask this question of ourselves. What am I doing about making peace in my family? The Legacy of Hannah: Hannah believed wholeheartedly in the adequacy of God to meet her needs and to use her as His servant. In her book “Let me Be A Woman” Elizabeth Elliot makes this statement: “the measure of self-giving is the measure of fulfillment.” No wonder Hannah could sing, “My heart rejoice in the Lord…for I delight in your deliverance.” (1Sam 2:1) God delights in our responding to our trust with a generous outpouring of His joy and peace to our hearts. The Legacy of Elizabeth: Elizabeth was a fearless woman. In spite of her childlessness, which to an Israelite woman, was a deep distress and a suspected sign of divine disfavor, she focused on living a godly life. Luke reports the results. When the opportunity for heroism arose Elizabeth was ready! The fact that God chose her as a mentor of Mary elevates Elizabeth to a mother “superior”. She had trained herself to be a nurturer so that she could manage her own pregnancy at an advanced age and tutor a young woman in the early stages of pregnancy at the same time. Her understanding of the value of a ‘new life’ emerging in God’s timing; her ability to rest in His perfect plan; made her the ideal mother. She and her husband, Zechariah, parented a son, John, who Christ himself said was without equal. More than any other quality, Elizabeth teaches us the value of perseverance in righteousness. My Mother’s Legacy: My mother personified courage. Although we lived in a small farm community far from neighbors and next door to many wild animals, she managed to care for her five children well. My dad was often not home because he had to work in a camp to get money for food. Somehow we never became anxious or felt deprived. I think, too of her capacity to work hard without self-pity. Monday was laundry day. This was done by hand on a scrub board with water drawn from a well, with buckets and rope and homemade soap. She had a tremendous steadiness under pressure. Whenever mother was around there was laughter. She never lost her sense of humor. Her presence always provided each of us with comfort and encouragement. Loyalty and commitment transcended personal desires and comfort. I began to learn that truth at a very early age from my mother. Her courage inspired us to keep trying. What legacy are you leaving for your family? Are the godly qualities evident even to the very youngest in the family? Are the characteris-tics of Galatians 5:22-23 evident; things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity; an ability to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart; a conviction that basic holiness permeates things and people; involvement in loyal commitment and the ability to marshal and direct our energies wisely? It all comes down to this one most important fact: Our legacy is what we do with the Bible and what the Bible does through us. How are you doing?? Let us keep pressing in to Jesus. Happy Mother’s Day, Roberta Bowen

Dear Mom,

You made it!! You are doing something really, really important. I know it’s not easy. I know you came to church already tired. Parenting is tiring. Really tiring! I know it is almost bedtime for your little one, yet you chose to come anyway. I watch as you are trying to keep the baby quiet, juggling the diaper bag as you find a seat. And I see you with your toddler and your preschooler who will not sit still and is trying to run all over the building. I know you’re wondering, is this worth it? Why do I bother? I know you often leave church more exhausted than fulfilled. But what you are doing is so important.

BUT when you are here, the church is filled with a joyful noise. When you are not here those little voices and cries are missed here, I know that they are learning how and why we worship now, before it’s too late. They are learning that worship is important. I know how hard it is to do what you’re doing, but I want you to know, it matters. It matters to me! It matters to the church and even on those weeks when you can’t see the little moments, it matters to your children. It matters that they learn that worship is what we do as a church, that everyone is welcome, that their worship matters. When we teach children that their worship matters, we teach them that they are enough right here and right now. They don’t need to wait until they can worship a certain way to be welcome here, and I know adults who are still looking to be shown that. It matters that children learn that they are a very important part of this church, that their prayers, their songs, and even their cries and whines are a joyful noise because it means they are present. I know it’s hard, but thank you for what you do when you bring your children to church. Please know that your family - with all of its noise, struggle, commotion, and joy – are not simply tolerat-ed, you are a vital part of the church gathered in worship.

THE WISDOM OF CHILDREN

You can't fool the kids in Sunday school, they are way too smart...

'If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale, and gave all my money to the church,

would I get into heaven?' I asked the children in my Sunday school class. 'NO!' all the children

answered. 'If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the yard, and kept everything neat and

tidy, would I get into heaven?' Again the answer was,' NO!' 'Well, 'I continued,' then how can I

get to heaven?' A five-year-old boy shouted, 'You gotta be dead!'

Stormie Omartian takes a fresh look

at another powerful aspect of knowing our Creator...His amazing and great love for us.

We reflect God most clearly when we are motivated by the power of love in all we say and do. But first we have to understand the depth of God's love for us and receive it. Then we must learn how to effectively express our love for Him.

"One of the many ways we can show our love to God is to deliber-ately choose to show love to others and in every situation," says Stormie. "We can only accomplish this with the guidance and ena-blement of the Holy Spirit. When we do that, God blesses us and transforms our lives in ways we cannot even imagine. And we will have a sense of God's pleasure toward us that is far more valuable than anything else we may desire. This book is about making that sometimes difficult choice and the rewards that follow."

Transform your heart, your relationships, and your future as you press into God's love and let the power of His life and character move through you.

D uring Tuesday prayer, while praying for the church, I saw in the Spirit what appeared to be an "angel" whispering into a person's ear.

I sensed this vision to be that of a warning/caution, but it is also to be an

encouragement with the Spirit of God saying:

"The hour has already come for you to wake from your slumber, for the enemy

has come in masqueraded as an "angel of light" and lulled you to sleep with

doctrines of demons. He has been nibbling at your ear with messages that

tickle and arouse the desires of your flesh. And because of your itching

ears, you have been plugging your ears to the truth and sound doctrine, and

choosing to believe his lies and make-believe stories. Therefore turn aside

from such things, and give ear to what the Spirit of God says. For He will

come to you when you call upon Him & seek Him with all your heart, and your

ears will hear His voice behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it."

The enemy has chewed your ear off long enough, so much so that you have

become or are in danger of becoming dull of hearing. He has and is devouring

your passion for Me & for the things of the kingdom with His biting

words. But harken, I bring you good news My servant! I am restoring your

ear to hear the voice of your High Priest. For I am commanding your inner

being to wake up from its dead sleep, and allow Christ to shine on you. For

in Him you are to live and move and have your being, because He is the Way,

the Truth and the Life, and in Him there is no deceit."

HARVEST TIMES Page 7

I was recently asked about tithing. The question was, “how does it work?” More specifically I was asked that if a person tithes, do

you just open your wallet one day and God puts more money in it? The question was kind of funny to me but at the same time, I loved the honesty in it.

I proceeded to tell this person a story that I think I can now share publically as Initially when it happened, I was asked not to speak of it. However, now that the person involved is no longer in the busi-ness, I feel that it is a story that must be told. It is my story but more so it is my son’s story, but I am going to tell it for him.

A few years ago my son asked if he could get braces as he was not happy with how his teeth were coming in. Now, being pastors, we don’t have any medical or dental coverage so I knew that this request was going to cost us. I did feel however that it was a valid request from a kid who never really asks for much at all. My hus-band and I talked it over and decided that somehow we would try to make it work. Money was tight at the time and there was not a lot of work for the business; in short, we were just making ends meet.

I booked two appointments to have his teeth assessed, as I was told that one orthodontist was cheaper than the other, and off we went to the first appointment. Upon introduction to the orthodontist, I made it very clear to him that we were here just for an assessment and that we had not made up our minds as to whether we had the funds to do this or not. I really had a sinking feeling in my stomach because having had braces myself when I was young, I knew how much it could cost.

N ow, backing up just a bit… The week before the appointment was the end of the month and so I was busy paying bills. I

usually take 10% of what we get and round it up, and that is our tithe amount. This particular month our tithe was estimated at about $350.00, plus my rounding up made it closer to $400.00 for the month. As I started to write the cheque, I heard in my spirit a voice from the Lord saying, “make the cheque out for $700.00.” I was a bit startled when I heard it, but I knew it was a voice from the Lord. I immediately began to reason with God, as I was certain that He did NOT understand that if I were to put $700.00 in as a tithe, this would leave me short in our budget for the month. I explained to the Lord that a “tithe” was 10%, NOT 20% and that perhaps He should reconsider His request. After a few moments of debate with God (something which by the way, I have yet to win), I conceded and wrote the cheque for $700.00.

Now, back to my story… As the orthodontist was checking my kid’s mouth, he casually asked my son what his father did for a living. Being the every chatty child that my son is, his response was “I don’t know, he just works.” Slightly embarrassed by my child’s remark I quickly jumped in and said that we are pastors of a church in Kitimat. The orthodontist seemed interested by this and began to ask me questions about our church. I casually gave him the basics about us, while he continued his examination.

Finally, after 30 minutes or so and not being able to stand it anymore, I asked him how much the braces would cost, again being very clear with him that we were only there for an assessment.

He said that his standard rate was $7,000.00, plus $300.00 for x-rays. My heart sank because I knew we simply could not afford that amount at that time. I did not want to have to tell my child that we could not do this one thing that he had requested.

After a moment I jokingly asked the orthodontist if he happened to have a discount for pastors. He quickly glanced at me and said, “actually, I do!” and then he kept examining and taking notes on my child’s teethe. After another 5 minutes or so, he put down his instruments and he says to my son; “Well...how about I do your braces for free?” I laughed out loud and said, “you shouldn’t joke about a thing like that!” He then turned and looked at me with a very serious face and said, “I would NEVER joke about a thing like that”. With what was a stunned look on my face, he went on to say that he was a Christian and that he believed pastors are not paid enough with what they have to deal with and do. He told me what he believed in, and that he had told the Lord that should any pastors come his way for his services, that as a service to God, he would do their orthodontic work for free.

Needless to say I was in shock! I almost started crying, I fought back tears as I thanked him. He escorted us to the reception as he gave instructions to his assistant to write up the papers for the contract. My son would get a complete set of braces (x-rays included) for nothing!!! (Although he did casually mention that he really liked Chocolate Chip cookies). The papers were completed and signed, and stamped boldly across the bottom of the documents were the words “NO CHARGE”.

A s I drove home still stunned, the Lord reminded me of our discussion over the amount of tithe He asked me to put in the

offering box. It was 10% of the $7,000.00 blessing that we had just received. I quickly told my son the story about the tithe I had paid that week, and that this should FOREVER be a lesson to him to always pay his tithe and to know that GOD is always faithful!!! We received more than a 100 fold blessing that day, and all the bills were paid that month despite the short budget. I know it was be-cause I was obedient to the Lord in paying my tithe and because I listened to His voice. That casual conversation about what ‘we did for a living’ may not have happened and we could have walked away empty handed.

So, in answer to the question, how does tithing work? My reply is… IT JUST DOES! Heather Lucier
