Congratulations to a cohort of six alumnifrom Maldives who completed work on aproject they began at a DKI APCSSsecurity sector development workshop in2016. Brigadier General Abdul RaheemAbdul Latheef, ASC15-1, led the team intheir work to create and publish theMaldives’ National Strategy onPreventing and Countering ViolentExtremism. Other alumni members ofSSD16-1 included Lieutenant ColonelMohamed Saleem, HamdhoonRasheed, CSRT14-1, Hassan Khaleel,Abdulla Waheed andMajor HassanAmir.

DKI APCSS Workshops:

In Thailand DKI APCSS hosted thefourth multilateral workshop in the“Building Maritime Shared Awarenessin Southeast Asia” series to advanceregional efforts to build a RecognizedMaritime Picture (RMP) forSoutheast Asia. Building ondiscussions begun in 2015, thisiteration in the series developedrecommendations for informationsharing protocols and tools tosupport information sharingagreement between ASEANmember states. DKI APCSS Workshops:

Dr. Saira Yamin joined the Nevada National Guard inTonga from May 7-11 to support a NationalSymposium on Women, Peace and Security. Theevent, hosted by His Majesty’s Armed Forces inTonga, was a successful whole-of-government andsociety dialogue on the value of a National ActionPlan (NAP) on Women, Peace and Security for theisland nation. Dr. Yamin gave presentations on theWomen, Peace and Security global agenda and theAsia-Pacific security environment from a genderedlens. The program concluded with recommendations

for an action-plan todesign, develop, andimplement a NAPthrough enhancedcivil-militarycooperation,awareness raisinginitiatives,consultations withcivil society,budgeting and reviewmechanisms. TheSymposium proposedthat the theme oftheir National ActionPlan on Women,
