Parish Updates Pastor’s Updates: Bishop Doherty released a statement on April 27, 2020: “Our main concern remains the pastoral care for souls in our diocese. After consultation, we have decided to postpone our original Uniting in Heart clergy transfer date that was scheduled for June 29, 2020. We don’t know what the next few weeks will bring but I would like to try to provide an opportunity for your parish families to see one another again, to celebrate the sacraments together and to have a proper send-off before our changes. With this in mind, Wednesday, August 19, 2020 will be the ‘moving day.’ Our retiring pastors have agreed to keep working until then. After this, they will be able to help periodically with supply work, while not assuming an official or unofficial sta-tus as an adjunct to any single pastorate.” I am grateful for this opportunity to be able to celebrate Mass, Baptisms, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation with our parish families. Read the full letter on the homepage of our website: www/blessedsacramentwl.org. Since I have been Pastor, we have a long history of having at least one bilingual staff member and that desire continues. Just recently, we had Anna Lopez as our Hispanic Coordinator; she had an opportunity to work part-time in her field of study while pursuing her education degree. Since then we have utilized the gifts and talents of many of our disciples, and we are thankful for their time and talents. It is with great joy, that we have hired Epigmenio Cabrera as a part-time Coordinator of the Hispanic Apostolate. He has been a leader in the Hispanic ministry for years at the parish and Diocesan level. Please join me as we welcome Epi to Church of the Blessed Sacrament. St. Mugagga, School in Uganda Update Like many other places around the world, our brothers and sisters at St. Mugagga School in Uganda, are experiencing many difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of Ugandans are Subsistence famers and workers and when the government announced an abrupt lockdown on March 25th, few people could afford feeding themselves. Many people now are breaking into others houses to get food for themselves. Furthermore, those who stock food in the stores, have hiked the prices up which only gives the rich the opportunity for food. The government has tried to assist by giving food but only a few families have received this help and benefitted from this. In addition to the COVID-19 challenges and famine, there has been a locust swarm in their area. These locusts also contribute to famine by causing major agricultural damage. Please keep him and all of our brothers and sisters in Uganda in your prayers. Our Role: Tuition assistance for this term ($650), additional funds for Mary (our sponsored student) who is taking an extra class ($180) & government officials required them to install fire extinguishers in the offices and the dormitories, and to build an incinerator for girls to burn the sanitary pads ($2,100). They are so grateful for our assistance and are praying for us! Thank you for your continued generosity. Financial Update

We applied for a Technology Grant through Center for Congregations and were awarded the maximum of $5000. We purchased 6 new laptops for our staff and parish to use to stay connected with our ministries during COVID-19 and for future use. We also purchased a Nikon Z50 camera to take high quality photos and video at the parish and two Logitech webcams for streaming use outside of the sanctuary. Prayers and Gratitude for this opportunity from Center for Congregations, this grant funding allows us the opportunity to continue Christ’s Mission and do it in new and creative ways.

abundant harvest. There is more work than there are workers. Today, I am encouraging us to pray “for vocations” but we pray especially for those discerning a vocation to the priesthood or the consecrated life. When we pray “for vocations” we also pray for the perseverance and holiness of those who have already undertaken the path to priesthood or consecrated life. The need for prayers doesn’t end at ordination or solemn consecration. Let’s pray for those who have responded to Our Lord’s call to work in his harvest. Lastly, let’s pray for everyone to simply seek and do the will of God in their lives. We all have a vocation to holiness, and holiness grows to the degree that we follow God’s will. Let us allow Jesus our Good Shepherd to be Lord of My Life: "Savior of my Soul". A way forward, a constant reminder to be people of prayer. Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Unless we come to know the intensity of the love Christ is showing us on the cross, we will never be able to trust Christ enough to follow him the way we need to. To get to know his love, we need to contemplate his suffering, the visible expression of that love. We need to think and pray about it and keep it in mind. Then, little by little, God's grace will enlighten our hearts and convince us, reveal to us, how deeply and unconditionally Christ loves us, and wants to be Lord of My Life: "Savior of my Soul". One long-standing tradition that can help us do that is called the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It consists in placing an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in a prominent place in the home. The image of the Sacred Heart was revealed to St Margaret Mary Alacoque in the late 1600s. It shows Jesus blessing us and pointing to his heart,

which is visible. It is surrounded with a crown of thorns and wounded on

one side, symbolizing his passion and the suffering that every sin causes him;

Out of the heart come bright flames, symbolizing his eternal, passionate love for us.

And on top of the heart is planted a cross, the everlasting reminder that salvation comes through suffering.

Some families keep candles near the image, lighting them when they pray together, or when they have a special prayer intention. When Jesus appeared to St Margaret Mary one of the promises he made was to "bless the home in which the image of my Sacred Heart shall be exposed and honored." Since the month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Church of the Blessed Sacrament will be securing images of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that can be enthroned in a prominent place in everyone of our parishioners homes. This is one practical way to remember Christ's love and let it fill us with the courage and wisdom we need to follow him through our own Good Fridays and into Easter Sunday. So let us begin with Loving Jesus, our Good Shepherd, Lord of My Life: "Savior of my Soul".

Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, pray for us!

http://www.sacredheartapostolate.com

Lord of My Life: "Savior of my Soul"

The Fourth Sunday of Easter is traditionally known as Good Shepherd Sunday because the Gospel reading is always John 10:1-10. The Church also refers to it as World Day of Prayer for Vocations. This theme reminds us of one of the deepest

understandings the human person possesses and that is our ultimate need for guidance. First and foremost for the Christian it is our Good Shepherd, Jesus whom we look to for our way, truth and life. He points the way to a loving Father and shows us by his vey human life the importance of seeking God’s most holy will. Understanding that every person has a need and longing for a shepherd and guardian of our souls beyond our savior God is his most generous plan for humankind gifts us with parents. We therefore pray for good and holy marital vocations. From those vocations the Church discerns good and holy religious and priestly vocations. Some may even be called to the single life for the sake of the Kingdom. Today, I want to specifically emphasize our need to be holy as the people of God praying for holy families to bring forth other good and holy families to always produce good and holy vocations to the priesthood and religious life. To whom do we look? Of course Jesus, our Good Shepherd, Lord of My Life: "Savior of my Soul". Christ the Perfect Shepherd Jesus wants us to know who he is: the Good Shepherd who protects and cares for the people of God just as a shepherd does his sheep. Shepherds always want their sheep to be healthy and happy. They want them to have the best grass, fresh water, and safety, so that they can grow and multiply as much as possible. A sheep has no greater friend than a good shepherd, and we have no greater friend than Christ. He in-vented life, he gave us life, and He came so that, in Him, we might learn to live it "more abundantly". He does not claim to be one good shepherd among many good shepherds, but the only one: "All others who have come are thieves and robbers." Some religious leaders and philosophers throughout history - and even in our own day - have claimed to be saviors, to have all the answers, but they were really con-sumed by pride, greed, or lust. Others have sincerely sought to better this world, but simply have insufficient wisdom or power to provide the human family with the kind of hope we long for and need. Jesus Christ, on the other hand, not only wants to lead us to a more abundant life, but he can. Omniscient, omnipotent, and eternal, he combines utter goodness with infinite wisdom and unlimited power. And so, with his flock, the problem is not the shepherd's limitations or ignorance, but the sheep's lack of docility: we stray from the flock and trap ourselves in thistles and swamps of self-centeredness, self-indulgence, and stubborn disobedience. As Christians, we actually don't have just a good shepherd, but the perfect shepherd. All we need is to be sensible sheep and listen to the voice of the One we know. Allowing Him to be Lord of My Life: "Savior of my Soul". Please Pray for Vocations Since today is the World Sunday of Prayer for Vocations and everyone is called to holiness, and Our Lord has put people in our lives who want to help us live up to that calling and fulfill it. He also teaches us to pray for workers to be sent to an

Stephanie I know many of you are struggling with the fact that you are not able to receive the sacraments at this time due to the pandemic. Although this is a challenging time, it is so important to stay connected with our faith in others ways. I'm currently working to grow in my relationship with Jesus by reading the daily readings, reflecting on my day in light of those readings, and recording my thoughts in a journal. I have found this to be extremely helpful in processing all that has happened with the pandemic and the changes that have inevitably come with it. After a week's worth of journaling, I go back to read through the week's entries to see where God was

present and if there are any connections between them. I also pray with my housemates a few times a week. Often we read the daily readings together for prayer in the evening. This is a great opportunity for me to bring up any insights, questions or points I was confused about when I was reflecting on my own. Sharing in scripture with my housemates helps me dive much deeper into the Word of God and to notice things I may not have on my own. I encourage you to try reflecting on the word both on your own and with others so that you can find what is most fruitful for you. As far as ministries go, there are some great opportunities coming your way this week! The youth group will be bringing the love of Jesus out into our parish community by serving our parishioners in need. Our middle and high schoolers will be calling to check in, making cards, and doing yard work for those who are not able to do it on their own during this time. If you know of anyone who may be in need, please contact me and we will work to help out. Our youth group has been meeting virtually on Sundays from 5-6:30pm. To help serve our community they will be helping out outside of our normal youth group hours. If any middle and high schoolers would like to be involved in youth group and/or the service project, please contact me for more in-formation. In an effort to spread joy and hope, I will be offering office hours a couple times a week. On Wednesdays from 2-4pm I will be in the parish office to answer phone calls and schedule meetings with those who would like to. This is time for you to talk about what would be most helpful for you whether you would like to pray together, discuss the faith, or if you just want to chat. On Thursdays from 3-5pm I will also be hosting office hours through video chat for our parish youth (middle and high schoolers). If you would like to join, please contact me for the link. Finally, Missy and I will be leading a Bible study to help you reflect and discuss the scriptures in our community. Missy will lead on Tuesday mornings and I will be leading on Wednesday nights beginning at 7:30pm. If you would like to be a part of the evening session, please contact me. Thank you all so much for staying connected with us and continuing to be an active part of our community even when we are not able to gather together in person. I hope that we are able to safely gather together soon. In the meantime you will be in my prayers. In Christ, Stephanie

We have been living out our faith through e-learning with Lafayette Catholic Schools. I love that each day’s lesson begins in prayer and ends in prayer and Religion class is just as much a part of the daily work as any other subject. We learn about a new Saint each day through the School Principal and it is so cool that they utilize Formed as part of their lessons! Even our preschooler is continuing to learn prayers through e-learning. She is working on the Guardian Angel Prayer currently. I am so thankful for Catholic Schools!

Starting the first week of May, I will be making arrangements to get our Catholic Publications out to parishioners. Check the website (https://blessedsacramentwl.org/literature) for pictures of the publications available and either call (765-463-5733) and leave me a message or send me an email ([email protected]) to let me know which ones you would like to read. I will make a personalized bag for you and we can arrange a time to pick them up or have them delivered.

Dear Blessed Sacrament Family, I miss seeing you terribly, and can hardly wait until we're back in the same location worshipping at Mass together and growing in Faith as we spend time with each other! It has been a joy to speak with a few of you on the phone as of late! Please know of my continued prayers for you during this time! I am very grateful for the various ways that we're blessed to have to reach out to

try and enrich our Faith lives. Beginning in May, I will be putting out small Liturgical/Catechetical videos - my hope is that these videos provide edifying learning opportunities for you and your families as we delve a little deeper into the riches of our Catholic Faith. I also continue to work on our Spanish Masses, which have been getting a little bigger and better every week. Continued thanks is due to Jocelyn Alcala and to all the priests who have celebrated Spanish Masses for getting and keeping me up so speed! A little later in May, there will be a special concert put on by members of our Music Ministry, so please stay tuned for all the upcoming videos. On the home front, I've been spending a lot of time sharing the videos of our Masses with members of my family (my mom and grandparents have been frequent viewers) and friends. Fr. Ted's homilies have provided a lot of good points to talk about and guidelines to implement in our Spiritual Lives, and the discussions have been rich and frequent. During May I will be offering my daily Holy Hour from home for each of our parish families. I've been trying to incorporate more of the Liturgy of the Hours into my daily prayer, and am currently reading 2 Spiritual books: "The World's 1st Love: Mary, Mother of God (Ven. Fulton Sheen) and "Three Ages of the Interior Life (Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange)." Finally, I'm praying my Daily Rosary in Spanish a little more frequently as I seek to get better at the language and incorporate more Spanish into my life. Thank you for all your prayers and support! God Bless You! - Caleb

Kandi

Hello Blessed Sacrament Parishioners!! I wanted to share with you something new I have been doing to live our faith at home and to get into scripture more. I have white board that sits on our dining room table and each day I write the day and date on (which is very helpful during this time, lol) and a bible verse or passage. Three wonderful things have come out of doing this:

I take a picture and share it on social media (I have had people tell me they look forward to my daily scripture post or how that is one of their favorite verses)

Our children are reading the Bible verse when they sit down at the table to eat or do school work (sneaking some extra scripture into their minds and hearts, without having to hear the moans and groans of sitting down and reading a Bible verse together

Some days the verse that speaks to me comes from my Bible app’s daily verse, sometimes it comes from one of the readings for that day’s Mass and then other times it comes from me digging deeper into my Bible and reading more. Sharing a daily verse with my family and others gets me into scripture every day and feeds my mind and soul with God’s word.

Be watching for videos from me each week on our Facebook Page and YouTube account, I will be doing a weekly craft video. The craft will be faith based and if possible, liturgical in that it will have to do with that coming Sunday or a Saint whose feast day is that week, etc. I look forward to when we can all be together again. I am so thankful that we are able to stay connected to our parish and each other during this time through all the livestreams, videos, emails, etc.

Prayerfully Yours, Kandi

Trey & I will be working through the remaining chapters of Signs of Grace, preparing for his virtual First Communion retreat and praying daily for all of those who will be entering the church and receiving the Sacraments.

Katie’s Ways to Bring Jesus to You I am offering the Divine Mercy Chaplet after Daily Mass on Fridays.

I hosted our first LIVE Prayer Event on Friday, May 1st. We prayed for all of the intentions that we received via Facebook & our prayer intentions link our website (blessedsacramentwl.org/prayer). Caleb played a couple of songs too! Please keep sending your prayer requests, Missy will be leading the event the next week. Come, Holy Spirit.

I am working to increase our social media content: videos & graphics. If you have content you would like to see more of, please email me [email protected].

I will be in the parish office taking calls and scheduling virtual meetings on Thursdays from 10am—12pm.

My prayers continue to be for all of you! I cannot wait until we meet again in person.

Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need, may

they find consolation in your healing presence. May these special people find lasting health and deliverance, and so

join us in thanking you for all your gifts. We ask this through the Lord Jesus who healed those who believed. Amen.

This week, the Sanctuary Candle in the church will burn for our Parish.
