Event Overview The Grey County Share the Road Cyclo-Sportif (May 24th, 2015) is a ride that that is being organized in partnership with the Share
the Road cycling coalition, to help promote advocacy for cycling in Ontario. Together we will be working to help increase awareness
with the goal of promoting all of the benefits of cycling and increasing safety on our roads.
The Share the Road Cycle Sportif was created in the tradition of Sportive which dates back over 500 years, beginning as a walking
event and progressing to cycling. Cyclo-Sportif’s are held in scenic regions around the world.
Share the Road cycling coalition is an Ontario based cycling advocacy organization with a vision of making our province the most
bicycle friendly place in the world.
Marrying Cycle Sportif with Share the Road in the beautiful setting of the Blue Mountains with proceeds going to support Share the
Road, will be a great benefit for our cycling community and a eagerly anticipated, challenging and fun experience for all those
involved.
The event will start in the events plaza in the centre of Blue Mountain Village and head out for a challenging 54.7km ride through the
Blue Mountains with a finish back at the Events Plaza. Cyclists will have right of way throughout the entire course as traffic will be
managed by over 20 OPP officers as well as many road marshals. There will be a feed station on the course where neutral support
will be available for all cyclists. Support vehicles will accompany the cyclists in a caravan which will include; lead vehicles, mechanical
support, race officials, first responder and a SAG wagon following behind to support and pick up any riders who are unable to make
it back to the village. The event will be timed; check the event website for more information about the event.
My Focus - Introduction In Ontario Canada we have world class facilities, beautiful countryside, great roads and the infrastructure in place to create and host
fantastic cycling courses and world class events.
After having participated in hundreds of races I decided to apply my learning to hosting races here in Ontario starting in 2012. My
main goal is to build challenging courses that put the rider’s experience first; limiting peloton size and providing for increased
caravan support puts the rider’s safety and experience at the forefront. In 2014 I was honoured with being named Road Organizer of
the year by the OCA (Ontario Cycling Association). By adopting best practices from the most successful amateur cycling events and
soliciting and incorporating feedback from participants, I continue to look for ways to improve my events.
It is only through the support of Wheels of Bloor, the UCI, the UWCT, the Canadian and Ontario Cycling Associations, the Ontario
Provincial Police, Share the Road Cycling Coalition, The County of Grey, the Town of Blue Mountains, Blue Mountains Village
Association, Clearview Township, The Town of Collingwood, Sportsnet, Racer Sportif, Collinwood Cycling Club, and many others, that
this event is possible, Thank you.
I look forward to seeing you in May
