A big-time, big-game hunter went on a safari with his wife and mother-in-law. One evening, while still deep in the jungle, the Mrs awoke to find her mother gone. Rushing to her husband, she insisted on them both trying to find her mother. The hunter picked up his rifle, took a swig of whiskey, and started to look for her. In a clearing not far from the camp, they came upon a chilling sight: the mother-in-law was backed up against a thick, impenetrable bush, and a large male lion stood facing her. The wife cried, “What are we going to do?” “Absolutely nothing,” said the hunter husband. “The lion got himself into this mess, let him get himself out of it.”

A terrible mess

Dave Gorton – Correction

OBITUARY Walt Riggin

Walter Jasper Riggin died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at his home in Glasgow. Walt was Born on March 23, 1923 in Barr, Montana, 30 miles north of Hinsdale, to Guy and Minnie Riggin. He was the second of seven children. At age 10 they moved to Hinsdale for the kids to attend school. At age 16 Walt went to work for the Black Ranch for a year. His pay was $1 a day. Te then worked for the Etcharts until 1943 before joining the Army. Walt was medically discharged from the Service and returned back to Hinsdale where he again worked for the Etcharts. On June 20th, 1950, he married Barbara Rice. Together they had three children. In 1952 Walt went to work for Markles and later from 1959 to 1969 for the city. In 1969 he and Barb bought the farm from his father-in-law Dave Rice, fulfilling his life-long dream. He was one of the founding fathers of the Whitmeyer Grazing Association. He was also involved with introducing elk out South, so it was quite fitting for him to shoot the elk of a lifetime in 1997 at 75 years young! Walt loved doing many things with his family that included pitching horseshoes, hunting, taking part in the yearly branding festivities and bowling until he was 86 years old. Walt was a member of the Methodist Church and he enjoyed working the annual Ham Dinner. He was an Elks member, enjoyed the VFW, and the Montana Bar, especially on grazing meeting nights. Walt loved anywhere that he could go dance. The last 16 years of his life was spent with his best friend, June Cotter. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara, five sisters and his brother. He is survived by June Cotter, sons David (Thelma), Bruce (Shelly), and daughter Tammy (Derrick) Riggin-Deisch. Grandchildren include Christi (Troy) Myers and their children Breilyn and Keanan; Kari and her daughter Kamarah, Callie (Neven) Sather, Lisa and Casey Riggin, Andrew and Michael Deisch, and also many nieces and nephews.
