AbundanceMy Dear Parish Family,
Children’s ministry at Padre Serra is rich and varied. Our whole community is blessed by the priority, loyalty andlove that our families place on formation in the faith, religious education and growing a servant heart. It is agrace and an inspiration to see the dedication of so many parents in ensuring that their children are alive in thespirit of the church.
We baptize about 175 babies a year. We average 20 toddlers in Stay and Play every Sunday. We all witness theforty plus children go off to Liturgy of the Word for children at both the 9:00am and 11:00am masses. Cherubsmusic is another whole contingent on Saturday mornings with about 20 enrolled. Children’s Choir and YouthChoir each boast about 36 members. Our phenomenal Altar Server Ministry is served by another 142 childrenand teens. Scouts, boys and girls combined, amounts to another 50 kids. Faith Formation at our parish is blessedby 600 children and teens enrolled who come to church every week after school. All those numbers of childrenaccompanied by their parents and siblings is a beautiful tapestry of family life.
Sundays at the parish give us a glimpse into this spirit. Families of all combinations come to church for mass ofcourse, and many of them stay, enjoying the outdoors, the beautiful weather, the fantastic hospitality and easy, sincere fellowship.
What is amazing is how little it takes to realize such great impact ... a place to sit, a few donuts, a smile. Not atall unlike five loaves and two fish. It didn’t take much to feed 5,000 men. A welcoming spirit, a sincere heart, alonging to grow closer to Jesus through our faith practices and fellowship with one another. It was true then inBethsaida when the crowds gathered to be close to him, and it is true today at Padre Serra in Camarillo. We are acrowd that gathers to be close to Jesus. It doesn’t take much, loaves and fish, bread and wine, donuts and coffee… to seek, to meet, to know, to grow, to love our Lord, our God.
Please watch the bulletin and Facebook for lots of opportunities to gather this summer. The high school teens aremeeting four times a week in July and early August, the amazing whole community picnic we have planned andawesome summer camp for children at the end of June, followed by Friday nights in the back yard for food andfun for families, singles, empty nesters and all our friends.
That is true beauty, the huge variety of activities and things that can touch different people in different ways atdifferent life stages. The Holy Spirit is here, alive in this place. It doesn’t takemuch, just a little time spent in fellowship and a longing to know, love andserve our great and awesome God.
Let’s pray that all may know God’s abundant love and grace through oursharing with many, just like the five loaves and two fish.
Happy Sabbath,
Eve CollierMinister for Children and Families
