THE PRESENTATION OF THE 2012 CONFIRMATION CLASS

Pastor: Brothers and sisters in Christ: Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ's holy Church. We are incorporated into God's mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit. All this is God's gift, offered to us without price. Through confirmation, we renew the covenant declared at our baptism, acknowledge what God is doing for us, and affirm our commitment to Christ's holy Church.

Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness,reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin?

Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppressionin whatever forms they present themselves?

Acolyting - Are you between the ages of 10 and 14 years old? If so, consider becoming an acolyte! Every service, the acolyte “brings the light of Jesus” into the church by lighting the altar candles. Please email Carol Krupinsky at [email protected] and we’ll get you on the every two months schedult.

The Explorer’s Class begins a new series this morning on prayer. This 3-week series is based on Marjorie Suchocki’s book, In God’s Presence. This study will present a new way of looking at prayer that may shake all your assumptions and help you deal with problems you have with prayer in your daily life. Jane Baker will lead this study. 9:00 a.m. in the Adult Room. Study materials will be furnished for reading between sessions.

The Connie Reading Circle meets on Thursday, May 10, at 9:30 a.m. at the home of Sally Jarus, 480-792-1297. Blanche Berreman will review The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, from the Nurturing for Community category of the UMW Reading Program.

Singles at Dayspring - Singles, Etc. Lunches - Each Sunday after the second service, those who want to go out for lunch as a group meet at the restaurant listed below. If you attend first service, please join us! We gather around noon under the name “Dayspring”. May 6 - Crackers & Co. - 1285 W. Elliot Rd., between Priest and Hardy, on the south side.

UMOM Volunteers - We need volunteers to help with UMOM Homeless

Shelter dinners on the following Sundays: June 17, July 8, July 15, Aug. 12 and Aug. 19. You would need to be at the center at 3:30 p.m. to help cook and would be done by shortly after 6:00 p.m. Please contact Carolyn Reid at [email protected] or (602) 882-5292 if you have any questions or would like to volunteer. UMOM Project - When United Methodist Men visited UMOM last month, our guide told us of their desire to add an altar to the chapel as they seek the funding for a full-time chaplain. Rick Drown has volunteered to lead the building of the altar. If you’d be willing to help, contact Rick (480) 857-1757 or Jim Baker (480) 226-4082.

Brown Bag Lunch - Come join us for Brown Bag Lunch every Tuesday at noon. Bring your own lunch and socialize with people from the church. We always have a good time. Come and be a part of this fun group.

Connections is a Dayspring mission that advocates for the intrinsic worth of all persons, regardless of their sexual orientation. It offers support to and education about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons and their families. It also hosts the Tempe PFLAG group meeting each first Friday of the month. Our clergy can provide names of “Connections” members for you to contact.
