Per coloro che non sono andati in ferie, un augurio da tutti di trascorrere una bellissima estate a San Diego.

The name Ciccia is coming from an Italian expression commonly used from the parents to call their kids very similar to sweetie. Oste-ria is an Italian restaurant concept where usually the menu is based on seasonal and daily ingredients. The food is prepared according traditional recipes and usually served with house wine by carafe rather than by the bottle. L’Oste or host, is usually the person who is running l’Osteria. Customers order at the counter, pay and then sit-down at the table of their choice. Tables are not reserved, it is first come first serve concept.

Mario Cassineri, former Chef and partner of BICE Restau-rant, and one of the three Chef for Montemonaco, the fundraising event for the town of Montemonaco, seri-ously damaged by the earth-quake, just opened a new restaurant in Barrio Logan with his wife Francesca.Located in Barrio Logan just few miles from San Diego convention center, Ciccia Osteria is the fruit of Franc-esca Penoncelli e Mario Cas-sineri many years of experi-ence as culinary artists and chefs around the world.
Ciccia Osteria is in Tuscan style exteri-or and the interior is cozy and comfort-ing as the food that is served. The food is prepared with the same love as when you invite good friends at your home. The ingredients are fresh and supplied daily. The special dishes are available until supply last and will be changed daily. At Ciccia there will be a large counter display with a variety of gluten free desserts. The menu includes op-tions for all the dietary restrictions including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan.A carefully selection of wine and beers will be available. For those who love wines, Chef Francesca carefully work with wine experts to offer great wines at great price.
Chef Francesca’s inspiration comes from a deep-rooted passion for food, a result of an Italian upbringing filled with warm memories of family dinners, picking fruit and vegetables from her grandmother’s garden and foraging for mushrooms and berries with her grandfather. Chef Francesca began working in the kitchen when she was just 14-years-old during holiday breaksfrom school, where she quickly picked up the basic skills she would later per-fect during five years at culinary school in Piedmont, Italy.
After finishing culinary school, Chef Francesca went on to work in kitchens around the world, flourishing as a chef while embracing other cultures in France, South Korea, Leba-non, Dubai and throughout the United States. During her experience as Sous Chef at BiCE Ristorante in San Diego, Chef Francesca has gained a following as the mastermind behind the restaurant’s Italian imported cheese bar and remarkable dessert menu. In the BiCE kitchen, Chef Francesca worked closely with Chef Mario Cassineri to create fresh and flavorful dishes incorporating homemade pasta, sauces and more.Chef Mario Cassineri who was born and raised in Milan, Italy, infuses a taste of cultural flare and tradition into each flavorful dish that he designs. Driven by a desire to both delight his guests as well as put a modern spin on contemporary dishes, Chef Mario credits his success in the kitchen to two defining attributes: palate and passion.Adding to her list of culinary accomplishments, Chef Francesca is also a certified Neapoli-tan Pizza maker by the American Delegation of the Associazione Vera Pizza Napoletana.

Apprezzatissimo al Festival di Berlino, il nuovo film di Agostino Ferrente, Selfie, è un unicum nel panorama
del cinema italiano e forse mondiale. Insignito della menzione di Film della Critica da parte del Sindacato
Critici Cinematografici, il film è uscito a fine maggio in Italia accompagnato da tantissime critiche positive sia
a livello nazionale che internazionale e sarà uno dei film presenti al prossimo feStivale, l’evento cine-
matografico organizzato dal San Diego Italian Film Festival dal 15 al 27 ottobre prossimo. Come sempre l’ICC sarà partner dell’evento che nel passato ha por-
tato a San Diego anche altri film di Ferrente.Protagonisti sono Alessandro e Pietro, due sedicenni che vivono nel Rione Traiano di Napoli dove, nell’es-
tate del 2014 Davide Bifolco, anche lui sedicenne, morì ucciso da un carabiniere che lo inseguiva aven-
dolo scambiato per un criminale. Una fatalità terribile che ha innescato in Ferrente la voglia di raccontare un’altra storia su Napoli, dopo lo straordinario film realizzato nel 2014 insieme a Giovanni Piperno, Le
cose belle. In Selfie Alessandro e Pietro, ragazzi che non hanno mai recitato, sono due amici inseparabili.
Alessandro ha trovato un lavoro da cameriere in un bar mentre Pietro vorrebbe diventare parrucchiere.

I due hanno accettato la proposta del regista di riprendersi con uno smartphone mettendosi in scena e narrando la loro vita quotidiana di ragazzi come tanti altri. Con l’uni-ca eccezione di vivere in un quar-tiere e in una città dall’alto tasso criminale. Il film condivide una realtà presente in tanti altri luoghi del mondo dove la commistione tra legale e illegale, mondo di sopra e mondo di sotto, è spesso inestricabile se non indistingui-bile.Come ha spesso ribadito il regista, non si tratta di un film “partecipa-to”, ovvero di un film che si avvale della partecipazione ideativa di una pluralità di soggetti, da registi professionisti a studenti di cinema, a soggetti di varia natura. Selfie non delega, si assume com-pletamente le responsabilità di regia. Ferrente è sempre stato presente con Alessandro e Pietro, a dare indicazioni e a provocare una particolare reazione da parte dei due ragazzi che si fanno per-sonaggi del film.

Ma com’è nato il progetto?Ferrente ha raccontato in diverse occasioni
che stava parlando con il padre di Davide Bifolco in un bar quando è rimasto colpito dal
giovane cameriere che li serviva. Ferrente gli ha proposto di riprendere con un telefonino
l’evento religioso al quale il ragazzo era desi-deroso di andare, la processione della Madon-na dell’Arco, e il risultato è stato così incredi-bile, così vero, da far scintillare l’idea del film
stesso, ovvero il ritratto sincero di vita di alcuni ragazzi della stessa età di Davide Biful-
co, vittima di un mondo che spesse volte assomiglia in maniera inquietante alle rappre-
sentazioni cinematografiche e televisive di genere crime come Gomorra - La serie, un
capolavoro di genere opposto, se si vuole, a un film come Selfie. Dove Gomorra infatti eccelle nel gioco della narrazione audiovisiva e nella
riformulazione degli stereotipi del genere, pur avendo ben presente nel background la cosid-
detta realtà, Selfie ha invece una dichiarata, fortissima vocazione pedagogica. Pensare Selfie
come un modo per riabilitare un’immagine di Napoli su cui ci sarebbe stato un accanimento
mediatico significa porre la questione nel modo sbagliato, ma non possiamo dilungarci in
questa sede su questo ragionamento. Si tratta piuttosto, come ha detto lo stesso Ferrente, di “un modo per guardare la vita di questi ragazzi alle loro spalle”, anche e soprattutto inquadrando gli occhi teneris-simi di questi ragazzi che hanno fatto una scelta di segno opposto rispetto a quella, più facile e allo stesso tempo tragicamente mortifera, dei loro coetanei di Gomorra o del recente La paranza dei bambini di Claudio Giovannesi. Quello che hanno in comune tutte queste narrazioni è un’as-senza davvero preoccupante, su cui ci dovremmo interrogare tutti, delle istituzio-ni. Come ci dovremmo interrogare sul fuori campo su cui è costruito tutto il film di Ferrente. Il regista decide infatti di raccontare il mondo attraverso gli occhi dei suoi protagonisti: tutto quello che non vediamo, il fuori campo appunto, ma che possiamo facilmente immagin-are, è la cosiddetta realtà che una volta finito il film, quella sì non scompare. È con quella che dovremmo fare i conti, ed è esattamente quello che ci invita a fare un film straordinario come Selfie.

We enjoyed a spring of gelato-making with the beautiful, organic makers of GelatoLove in Carlsbad. We learned to make vanilla and strawberry gelato, chocolate decorations, and refreshing sorbets. Our first-ever painting workshop was also a success. Kids and adults each painted a Venetian sunset under the guidance of Roberto and Daniela Moneta, and enjoyed focaccia and prosecco (or apple juice!).
Our last events were a great success!
