Greetings Sisters and Brothers in Christ,From The Pastor
May the God of hope and salvation bring to you the gifts of the Holy Spirit! As the Eastertide begins to wane and the season of Pentecost comes upon us we arereminded of the Great Commission, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20andteaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I amwith you always, to the end of the age" (Matthew 28: 19-20).This is the excitement and challenge of the gospel that we are empowered and given amission to proclaim Christ crucified to the world. It is an overwhelming task but wehave the Advocate, the Holy Spirit to guide us.Sometimes, we do not realize that when we touch another person with kindness orproviding them with food when they are hungry or clothes when they have none, thatwe have become Christ bearers. As we were baptized, we no longer live to ourselvesbut to Christ that lives in us. The old Adam has died and we are a new creation. This is what inspires and strengthens us in the mission that we do as people of God. Itis not judgmental but accepts all people as we reach out with the gospel. At St. Jameswe feed the hungry through our Food Pantry, clothe children with the Gabriel Project, supply blue jeans and socks with the "Sharing the Blues" ministry, etc. Many haveworked diligently to raise money so that these ministries are possible.I would like to thank all people that have assisted St. James in their ministriesespecially through our sister Lutheran congregations. The gospel of Jesus Christbinds us as one so that may we continue to work together to give praise to our Lord!
Yours in the Lord's service,
Pastor Deb

Memorial Day
Memorial Day emerged fromthe grim shadows of theAmerican Civil War. Before theclose of the war, women began
decorating the graves of soldierswho had died in that war. Thepractice quickly spread, and afew years later May 30, 1868,
was designated as Decoration Day - a day forplacing flowers on the graves of Union andConfederate soldiers throughout the UnitedStates. In 1882, Decoration Day became known as
Memorial Day, and soldiers who died in otherwars were also honored. Over the years, ithas become a day when all loved ones whohave died - in war and otherwise - areremembered. In 1971, the United StatesCongress declared Memorial Day a nationalholiday to be observed annually on the lastMonday in May.On this Memorial Day, remember those who
gave their lives for our country. But also prayfor those who continue serving to keepAmerica free, especially those who are in
