Greetings! Summer is around the corner and like you, the Botanical Gardens family is looking forward to the long awaited sensory filled sights and sounds of summer. We have many traditional and new activities planned for this year, but first I would like to share with you some exciting news from the first six months of 2013.

The long awaited Wegmans Indoor Family Garden officially opened on January 21 and we are very grateful to Wegmans for their support! The 3rd annual NIGHT LIGHTS at the

Gardens was another huge success! The Orchid Show, Spring Flower Show and Easter Egg Hunt were very successful as well. A special thank you to our Board of Directors, staff and volunteers for the important roles they play to ensure that our members and visitors have a wonderful experience at the Gardens.

Taste of Paradise, our annual kick-off event for the Spring Show, was the best ever. Over 450 guests attended this sold out event. The music, food and “special libations” made for a wonderful evening. On March 15, our collaboration with the University of Buffalo Department of Architecture unveiled a LifeCycles exhibit which was on display throughout the Spring Flower Show. If you did not see the exhibit, please go to our YouTube page to check out the exhibit video.

Visitors this summer will experience some of our traditional shows and events and some new offerings as well. Celebration of Coleus and Color runs from June 15-July 28. Visitors will enjoy plants and flowers in a variety of color, sizes and shapes both in the outdoor gardens and the indoor green houses.

Starry Night in the Garden returns on June 19 - A spectacular event which continues to provide the best in music, food and wine. If you haven’t attended in the past, you are definitely missing out on a summertime tradition in Buffalo. Hope to see you this year. There is so much to tell about the happenings at the Gardens, but the most important of all is to tell all of our members and supporters that because of their assistance our beautiful, architectural and historical treasure, the Botanical Gardens, continues to be an integral part of the quality of life in our community. You make the difference. See you at the Gardens soon!

David Swarts, President & CEO

Family Garden This inside garden provides a place for safe, meaningful play and discovery as children of all ages and abilities explore the wonders of the plant world and the importance of eating healthy. Visitors are able to plant, dig, build, observe, dream, explore, taste, touch, smell and listen as they engage in both free play and structured learning. Regular nutrition/food themed kids hands-on programming will take place each Saturday from 10:30-11:30am and programs are appropriate for ages 4-10. See the schedule below for our exciting lineup of planned activities. Admission to the Wegmans Family Garden is included with paid admission and with membership.
