“be in it to win it” inside this issue.

Our trip to the Melbourne Beauty Expo was fun. I admit I haven’t done

my MOJO thing yet but I sat in our non-steam detox box with my

laptop while researching topics for this month’s newsletter. That was

rather out of the ordinary for me and it felt like the tropics while it was

rainy and cold outside.

Each month there will be a mystery word in our newsletter for your

chance to win. A Deluxe Manicure with Jemma for one lucky winner

who emails or SMS us the sentence containing the word “Emollient”.

A few tips on Feng Shui

for your home

Living plants: Pot plants and flowers enhance and

energize the element of wood. Use them in corners

of your living and dining room, but not in your

kitchen or bedroom. Be sure to look after them,

keep them healthy, vigorous and DUST FREE!

Candles and lights: Used to energize the element of

fire. Candles bring life and yang energy to dead, dark

corners. Very good to create balance in odd-shaped

rooms.

Crystals: these are an ancient way of energizing the

earth element. Crystals reflect light, helping to

dispense chi into smaller, more beneficial proportions.

Hang a glass ball into the rays or rising sun for good

fortune.

Fish bowls: Great to strengthen the water element to

attract chi, wealth and prosperity. This is very

important if there is no other water in view. You can

even hang a water painting.

Metal chimes and bells: very good to energise the

metal element. Metal chimes connect the wind and

bring chi into the room or house. To meditate or for

strong chi hang them near an entrance or window.

Hollow chimes channel chi upwards.

Mirrors: place opposite a busy main road to deflect

excessive chi. Inside mirrors help to draw the outside

into a room.

What is Chi? Chi is a positive “life breath” energy

inherented in all things. It is associated with the

dragon, the most powerful animal of Chinese

mythology. Chi flows thorough every part of the body

from the earth to the top of the head.

House Chi: which is what we are looking at today,

streams through a dwelling, just as human chi flows

through a person. Finding the right spot to build a

house maximizes chi. The flow of chi is sensitive to

elements, shapes, obstructions and all sorts of

circumstance.

Our new location over in West Ulverstone is at the

“mess everywhere you look“ renovation stage. It’s an

exciting time planning and decision making, mind

changing and dreaming.

My lovely client and friend Abbey Fisher performed a

house blessing and energy clearing ceremony of our new

location. It was a pleasant experience, removing the

negative energy imprint left behind from the previous

occupants. It’s great to celebrate the start of a new

journey in a new space and new energy.

Abbey’s husband, synergist Sam prepared a Feng Shui

analysis based on my personal details and I can’t wait to

put all the factors into practice once we reach the final

stage of our project.

The principles of Feng Shui are designed to alter our

environment, business, home and our hearts, so that we

feel at peace with ourselves and the universe.

Abbey is also a great, experienced hairdresser and a

make-up artist using only chemical free and natural

products.

You know those hard bumps that appear on the back of your arms, thighs and your bum? Harmless, but irritating, these goose bump-like plugs often resemble acne and appear as dry, rough patches of skin. Formally called keratosis pilaris (KP), but commonly known as chicken skin, it can even appear as a red rash on your cheeks. The real question is what causes this annoying condition? That answer is easy, excess build up of keratin in the hair follicles. What’s not known is why. If you have a family history of atopic dermatitis, you are more likely to develop it. But what can you do about it? This can be hard to treat. At best, treatment will control and improve it. If it clears with treatment, it often recurs after you stop treatment. Dry skin tends to make it worse. Intensive moisturizing is key, even as much as several times a day initially. Look for moisturizers that contain urea. These tend to be more effective.

Use a moisturizing cream for dry areas after bathing. After your bath or shower, shake off excess water from the skin and apply the cream to damp skin. This helps to seal in the moisture. Your doctor will suggest a cream that is best for you.

Consider topical retinoids or lactic acid creams or treatments to encourage the skin to turn over more quickly. We can help you there. Don’t forget humidifiers to increase moisture in your house, too. If a retinoid has been prescribed for treatment, use only a thin coat on dry skin because it may increase the dryness. The prescribed therapy must be used on a regular basis or the KP recurs. The treatments do not work in all patients. For most children, treatment is not needed. Chicken skin is considered harmless by the medical profession, but we know it can be hard on your self-esteem. So take these simple steps to minimize its appearance and gets your confidence soaring!

Is Your Skin Feeling Grumpy? It’s that time of year again. The weather is changing and your skin is probably grumbling.

What can you do now to prepare for the colder months ahead? Let’s take a look.

How To Transition Your Skincare Needs

Take a look at what you’re using. Does your skin feel tight and dry after you’ve cleansed

and moisturized? Then it’s time to swap your warm weather cleanser for a more hydrating

one.

Cool air robs your skin of its natural oils. Without these oils your complexion will become dry

and dull. Step up your moisturizer to one that’s more emollient. This will help to increase

skin’s hydration by reducing evaporation.

Add a hydrating serum to keep skin from feeling tight and dry, and to plump it up. And

don’t forget to exfoliate! So many people think this step can be skipped in colder months.

Not so! Exfoliation clears away old dead skin cells that create a dull complexion. It also

enhances the effects of ALL your other products.

Add facials! Facials work deeply to hydrate, regulate the immune system, prevent wrinkles,

clarify and tone the skin.

And lastly, this is no time to skimp on sunscreen! Protecting your skin from environmental

assault is a yearlong commitment.

If you need some assistance transitioning your skincare, just let us know. We’re here to help!
