FREE CONFERENCE REGISTRATION OFFER

On 19th-21st July, Tabor adelaide will be hosting the 2013 Conference on Science and Christianity, a biennial conference presented by iSCaST (Christians in Science and Technology) in association with the GCRi (Graeme Clark Research institute at Tabor adelaide).

We are delighted that Revd Professor David Wilkinson will be flying in from the uK as keynote presenter. David trained first as a scientist and then as a theologian. his first PhD was in astrophysics, after which he studied theology at Cambridge and became a methodist minister. Later he completed a PhD in theology and since then has held a number of different positions at Durham university in apologetics and theology. he is now Principal of St John’s College and Lecturer in the Department of Theology and Religion, Durham university, and is a member of the GCRi advisory Panel. Revd Dr Denis Edwards, well-known in adelaide as a theologian at flinders university, will also be presenting.

The conference – faith, hope and Quarks: Scientific and Theological Perspectives on the future includes a number of parallel presentations by other speakers, to be held in three separate rooms at Tabor adelaide over the weekend (these parallel sessions will not clash with the keynote presentations).

iSCaST is offering free registration (to the value of $250.00) to three students who are willing to serve as helpers in these rooms: ensuring Smart Boards are ready, offering any technical help where necessary, moving chairs, and generally ensuring presentations are ready in the alocated rooms. it is not an arduous task, and David hughes, Tabor’s iT guru, will be offering specific training regarding use of Smart Boards on friday morning 19th July, immediately before the start of the conference.

if you are interested in applying for one of these places – Please do immediately so you don’t miss out. Contact Dr Juhani Tuovinen by email: [email protected], or visit GCRi at Tabor adelaide.

National Reconciliation

national Reconciliation will be celebrated at Tabor adelaide between 20 - 24 may. These dates mark the anniversaries of major milestones in the reconciliation journey, the successful 1967 referendum and high Court mabo decision. The Reconciliation week is a time for all australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can join the national reconciliation effort.

The theme for this year is Let’s Talk Recognition - with a focus on how we can better recognise each other, and recognise the contributions, cultures and histories of aboriginal and Torres Strait islander peoples. at Tabor there will be: aboriginal music played in the hub; Recognition walls for you to fill with messages of praise; cooking with native plants; Reconciliation timeline and displays.
