In addition to committee reports, the next budget will be presented for congregational approval.

Members are reminded that in order to vote at the congregational meeting you must have signed the membership book within 30 days of the meeting, made a pledge, and paid on that pledge (UUCE Bylaws, Article II, Section II). Everyone should have received their pledge statement in May. If you have any questions regarding your pledge, please contact Joanne Davis in the church office.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING JUNE 26

Come and be a part of our largest and longest-running fund-raising effort. There’s something for everyone to help with during setup week (June 12-16) and on Sale days. Let’s make this our biggest and best sale yet!

After the Service on Sunday, June 12, we’ll clear out the building – putting away all our “church” stuff. From Monday to Thursday, we’ll collect and accept item donations… and sort, display, and price them. It’s our annual “all hands on deck” week-long party, and everyone’s welcome!

Please fill out a volunteer sign-up sheet and come play with us as often as you can – there will be lots of laughter, food, fun, and financial gain for the budget.

We accept new and gently used items of every type: furniture, clothing, toys, household items, kitchen gadgets, big and small appliances, blankets, pet sup-plies, sporting goods, suitcases, jewelry, books, cd/dvd’s, yard tools, gardening stuff, plants….. just about anything!!! (no non-flat screen TV’s or computer monitors please) Pick-up of items is available if necessary. See the Garage Sale information table in the Olympia Brown Room for sign-up sheets & more de-tails. Can’t wait to see you all in June !!! Contact Lynne Stephens with ques-tions 868-1438.

As you do your seasonal change-over of “stuff”… STOP!! Don’t throw it away!! If you have something that can be donated to our GARAGE SALE, we’ll take it! Box it, bag it, or tag it – we’ll take it in June. If you absolutely can’t store it until then, contact Lynne Stephens.

What treasures will we discover this year??

Please help us get started on this year’s endeavor.

CONNECT TEAM NEWS

We’re coming into the final stretch of our year long project of creating a new mandala for the sanctuary. On June 5, the group will be planning the June 26 service.

The group will also be preparing the frames for the legend of each belief. The tree is being laser cut by friend and former member Vlado Benden of Lignitech of Fairview. The frames for the symbols have been ordered from the Victorian Frame Co. and Mary Lubowicki has begun painting the symbols that will go in those frames on the tree. On June 19, the group will meet in the sanctuary to install the tree, symbols and legend. Once installed, the wall will be covered until the unveiling on June 26.

The service will celebrate the belief “Sources” of members in our congregation and in our community. It will take us a step closer to realizing the goal of our outdoor sign “Diversity Celebrated Here” which was installed last June. The service will be dedicated to Fred Beebe, who created the current mandala that is hanging in the sanctuary. Fred was a long time member who passed away a year ago on June 26. Fred’s sons, Brian and Jaye, will attend the service. We hope that everyone will wear one of Fred’s famous homemade pendants. Please be sure to get one for a donation of just $3.

Please join us after the service for a special potluck meal.

The new web site is close to going public. The structure is in place, and we are still seeking content and photos.

Committee chairpersons and mission team leaders are encouraged to contribute. Email photos of events, activities, projects, etc., to [email protected]. Many thanks to Diane Guthrie for her hard work dedicated to this project.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD CO-PRESIDENT, DOUG RUSSELL

In the December 17, 2015, weekend news, I wrote about our plans for the newly formed transition team. The team’s initial energy was directed to helping Rev. Pam develop information and plans for the UUCE’s future ministerial search. This has been deferred because of Rev. Pam’s early departure as a result of her early-onset dementia diagnosis.

Reverend Pam and Di returned to their home in Dayton, Ohio on April 30. We wish them hope and strength in the struggles they face. Rev. Pam will celebrate her retirement at the UUA General Assembly this summer.

UUCE is in the process of advertising for a half-time Consultant Minister. We are going it alone this year without the UUCM. Twice a year, spring and fall, congregations have the opportunity to complete an online form at the UUA website’s Ministerial Settlement System for consideration by UUA-approved ministers.

The first opportunity for these ministerial candidates to express interest in serving our congregation was May 9 -10, based on the information contained within the online form. The second round was May 23 and 24we have received one application so far. The final round will be on June 3.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns regarding this process, please see me in person, by phone at 814-602-9245, or via email at [email protected]. As this process proceeds, I will keep you informed.

Thank you. ~ Doug
