Congratulations also to our swimmers who were Basket Handling at the event along with supervising parents on Finals nights. It was an enjoyable, tiring and memorable experience for them all. Unfortunately they had to wear "pink?" shirts and required to stay out of sight, so we didn't see them on TV. Many of them saw and "Hi 5'd" their idols. The ultimate thrill for some of them (that stayed at the Centre until after 11pm!) was seeing Ian Thorpe and getting his autograph. Well done to all our swimmers & Parents who represented The Club with such aplomb. Bring on the Australian Short Course Championships!

Congratulations to Alice Whiley on her amazing 10km swim. Alice finished as the 4th Australian, missing a Bronze Australian Championship medal by .03 of a second. Coach Paul Hicks will be introducing rope climbing into his program to lengthen swimmers arms and will be encouraging long nails! Alice had some hard work ahead of her over in WA with 43 10km female swimmers entered. More than 400 competitors are taking part, with this year’s Championship also attracting many international competitors from Canada, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Malaysia and USA. Alice was the 1st SA swimmer and finished 5th overall behind Olympic & World Championship swimmer Melissa Gorman, Emily Seymour (both from Redcliffe), Tash Harrison and a visitor from Japan, Yumi Kida. Special mention goes to mum Anne, on the pontoon feed station. Anne apparently did a great job keeping Alice feed throughout the race. The 13 / Under Starplex Carnival was held at Gawler on Sunday 29th of April & SCSC had 10 swimmers (5 boys & 5 girls) compete across most events & disciplines.

Many swimmers achieved Personal Best times on the day &/or medals for their performances. As with all Carnivals & Major Competitions, swimmers who finish in the Top 8 for their event gain points (1st = 8 2nd = 7, etc.) The following is a list of points gained by individual swimmers: Female: Rani Filmer ( 12.5 ) 1 x Bronze Medal Anasthasia Kodhyat ( 29 ) 2 x Silver Medals 1 x Bronze Medal Isabella Kodhyat ( 32 ) 4 x Silver Medals Nicole Mader ( 22 ) 1 x Silver Medal Rebecca Rogers ( 26 ) 2 x Bronze Medals Male: Thomas Davie ( 17 ) Oscar Deverson ( 27 ) 1 x Gold Medal 1 x Bronze Medal Ryan Emms ( 21 ) 1 x Gold Medal 1 x Silver Medal Joshua Whitehead ( 33 ) 3 x Silver Medals 2 x Bronze Medals Lachlan Wilson ( 14 ) Our 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay Team was 5th, whilst our 4 x 50m Medley Relay Team finished 4th. Well done to all swimmers & the TEAM SPIRIT shown by these guys was outstanding!

Our Club Championships were held over the two evenings of Monday 23rd & Friday 27th of April, 2012. Swimmers were allowed to enter a Maximum of 6 Events over the two nights, accumulating points for each placing achieved. These results have been collated in order to identify our Club Champions for all Age Levels. All Club Championships results & trophies will be presented at our Annual Presentation & AGM in July. Keep an ‘eye on’ the Notice Board on Pool Desk for further information regarding the Day.

Time Trials are usually held on the 1st Friday of EACH Month. Time Trials were NOT held in May,

due the Club Championships, but will resume again on Friday 1st of June. White Nomination Forms must be completed & placed in the correct tubs BEFORE 5:30pm on the night.

It is an expectation that PARENTS of swimmers participating in Time Trials, TIME KEEP during the events. Congratulations to Alice Whiley who has been invited to attend a National Open Water Swimming Camp in Queensland at the end of April. This camp is being run to kick start Swimming Australia's preparations for the 2016 Olympics. Selection was based on Alice's recent performance at the National OWS Championships. Alice will spend the week training and then competing in an OWS event. Alice has also been selected onto the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) Team along with Coach Paul Hicks being selected as the Open Water Swim Coach with 2 other Coaches, Peter Bishop (ex Norwood) & Corey Brampton (Le Fevre). This is fantastic news for both Alice & Paul because it opens access to state of the art equipment & support staff such as Physiotherapists, Sports Psychologists, etc. Fortunately, Alice will continue to train at SCSC as well. Congratulations both of you! All nominations for Swimming SA Meets will need to be done via the South Coast Swim Club’s Website. Along with nominating, on line payment for events can be made either online or in person.

Club Members should’ve received an email from explaining how to nominate, if members have questions they can approach any of the Committee Members on Pool Deck at any time for clarification. Parents please be aware that the Club MUST supply officials & time-keepers at SwimmingSA Competition Meets. Officials must remain in place for the full session, and must be present at the officials meeting at the Aquatic Centre at a nominated time prior to the start of the event. This meeting time and place will be advised by SwimmingSA prior to the event. Officials are required to wear a white shirt/blouse and navy/dark pants and closed in shoes – no thongs or bare feet.

Timekeepers must remain in place for a minimum of 1 hour, and may only change over at a convenient time between events that does not affect the competitors or flow of the meet.

Time-keepers can only change once per hour and cannot change during racing (while swimmers are in the water or heat) & must wait until the last heat of an event before changing. Courtney Bristow ( 33 pts ) 4 x Silver Medals Fastest Female Swimmer in Open Water Swim Well Done Courtney!!!

SOUTH COAST SWIMMING CLUB www.southcoast.swimmingsa.org.au

We have a large range of merchandise & the Club expects its swimmers to wear the Club Swim Cap at all Meets, as this not only provides promotion of the club but also allows spectators to identify our swimmers in their races.

Arena Coats can be purchased cheaper if we have a number of orders.

Orders should be made with Aileen either directly or via email. Contact any of the Committee Members in person or via the website for payment options & details. Due to some issues, the Board have decided to postpone the current membership renewal process date until the end of May. We are hoping that the issues we are currently experiencing with the rollover of membership will be resolved & we will be able to recommence & activate the online process for individuals by the 28th of May.

As there is a hold up, the Board have given an extension to the current membership until the end of May, so if you are intending to enter the upcoming meets, you can still do so without any restrictions. If you are transferring or are a new member, please speak to your Club who will make the necessary arrangements with SwimmingSA. We appolgise for this inconvenience & would like to reassure you that we are working hard to remedy the situation. Should you have any issues with your renewal please contact your Club registrar who can advise you of your options.

For ‘new’ Members & Parents, you may have seen Brian using a Laptop Computer & a ‘Swim Pro’ Underwater Camera. These valuable Coaching Tools were purchased with the aid of Local & State Government Grants & will be valuable assets for our coaches & swimmers. Brian is beginning to assemble a ‘Morning Squad’ for the younger members of the Club, which will be predominantly made up of swimmers from the Performance Squad.

Swimmers will be invited to begin morning training sessions on Friday & Saturday. Stand by for more information. South Coast State Qualifying Event - Carnival this year is on 29th of July, just in time for swimmers to Qualify for the State Aged Short Course Championships in August. It is also the largest fund-raiser the club has each year. Our Carnival in 2011 was one of very few to actually ‘turn a profit’. This was in no small way due to the generosity of many of our members contributing & donating to baskets etc. for cake & food stalls, raffle prizes, etc. The Club would appreciate (as in previous years) $25 Individual Event Sponsorship to help cover the costs of Medals in all events. As the SCSC Newsletter is now a Quarterly Production, ‘The Phantom’ will have far more opportunities to observe the Club’s goings on. Follow that Black Line!!!
