City Hall Seminar

Touch-a-Truck is back! The first time we held this event in 2019, it was a smashing success. City Hall was crawling with kids who were crawling all over trucks. We missed this so much in 2020, but it’s returning! Mark your calendars for Monday, August 30th from 6:00 – 8:00.

Would you like to be a part of making dreams come true? We invite residents and organizations to add their vehicles to the fun. Think trucks, tractors, or other heavy machinery. Please keep in mind that participants will be allowed to explore your vehicle. If you are interested in helping us, email [email protected] for information.

Community Responsibility

We have enjoyed July without any major fire incidents. Thank you for precautions that were taken with personal fireworks. The issue we still face as a community is the major drought we are experiencing. I encourage you to follow the guidelines from Weber Basin. Visit weberbasin.com/drought for information. Please do your part!

Mayor Sharon Bolos

adapted from Christmas Time is Here by Vince Guaraldi

July is coming to an end and August is starting, the leaves will soon change colors, temperatures will

eventually go down which means Football season is here:

Football time is here! Happiness and Cheer! Fun for all that Children call their favorite time of the year!!

Tackle football season will officially start on the first day of the draft on August 2nd. The draft will run

August 2nd – 4th. Teams will then start practice and the first games will be on Saturday August 21st. This

Should be a very exciting season. Teams will play 8 regular season games this year instead of 7. The mini

bowl will be held on Saturday November 6th at Ben Lomond High School. All home games will be played

at the Sports Park at 4215 S 3900 W. Come cheer on our teams as they all work toward a mini bowl

championship.

Flag Football is also right around the corner. Registration ended on July 31st and we are in the process of

making teams. The draft for 3rd/4th and 5th/6th will be Thursday August 5th. Check in time begins at 5:00

and the workouts begin at 5:30. The draft selection will start at 7:00 pm after the work outs conclude.

Games will start Wednesday September 8th and Thursday September 9th. 1st/2nd, 5th/6th will play on

Mondays and Wednesdays. Kindergarten, 3rd/4th and 7th-9th will play games on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The season should conclude the second week of October.

Registration for Coed Kindergarten and 1st Grade instructional basketball and girls basketball is open! We

are looking for coaches for all age groups in both leagues. K/1st basketball will be a little different this year. It will be structured like a true developmental league. There will be 5-6 kids on each team, and the coaches will officiate the game. We feel this format will be more beneficial for the kids as they are learning the ba-

sics of playing basketball. The season for both leagues will start in October and conclude before Thanksgiving. Register online for girls and coed instructional at westhaven.sportistes.com

Did you know that everything that gets in the storm drain flows directly to rivers,

lakes, streams, and wetlands? Effecting water quality, and fish and wildlife. Runoff

picks up several pollutants like pet waste, leaves, lawn clippings, trash, detergents,

fertilizers, and motor oil.

Did you know that we have a dog park in West Haven? The enclosed section of Tuscan Park at 2125 W 3100 S is for your cute canine. You can’t miss it – it’s right by the giant sun sculpture at the south end. There is a parking lot on the north end of the park. It’s also adjacent to our recently completed trail. Bring your dog down. Just remember to pick up after it.

Garbage

Garbage Can Pickup Fee Credit ends August 15.

As part of the transition to a single trash hauler contract, the City has been offering credits for residents having to pay previous trash haulers for can pickup charges. As the process was intended to be temporary and has been going on since April 1, we have determined that August 15th will be the last day credit applications will be accepted. If you qualify but haven’t requested a can pick-up credit yet, please go to www.westhavencity.com/residents/public_utilities/garbage.php and complete the requested application.

With the summer months upon us and the current drought situation, we need to be very diligent in maintaining our properties. We would all feel bad if a fire caused damage to people or their property. Please ensure that your grass and/or weeds are trimmed. Be sure to haul away or dispose of the trimming. Let's all have a safe and enjoyable summer.

Code Enforcement

West Haven is looking for three to four volunteers to serve on a committee to help re-view and provide recommendations on the City’s Design Review code. This code helps determine standards for the exterior structural appearance and landscaping requirements for new commercial buildings within our City. The current code can be found at https://westhaven.municipalcodeonline.com/book?type=zoning#name=Chapter_54_Design_Review. Along with the volunteers, the com-mittee will include members of the City Council and Planning Commission. If you are interested in helping craft requirements of future commercial development along with getting experience in local government, please send an email to the City Manager at [email protected].
