Council Night in ‘Ryde’ - July 15

Mayor Donaldson, Councillors and Staff took part in the annual Ryde Community BBQ at the Ryde Community Co-op Inc. on July 15. This annual event brings

council and staff to the former school house to conduct a regular council meeting and have the opportunity to listen and address some of the immediate concerns of the residents in Ryde.

In addition to a delicious BBQ and ‘meet and greet’ with council and residents the evening featured a number of tributes to local residents for their philanthropy efforts, a cheque presentation towards the preservation of a rare WWI quilt created in Gravenhurst and an update on the 135th anniversary celebration August 16th. There were also a few reptile guests as the Georgian Bay Turtle Hospital shared informa-tion with guests about their efforts to protect at-risk turtles in the area.

Thank you to all residents who attended - More photos available Online

Dale Durnan of Gravenhurst is an award-winning artist and on Sunday June 22, prior to the “Music on the Barge” concert presented Town of Gravenhurst Deputy Mayor Jeff Watson with a print of her new painting “Gull Lake Park – Then and Now”.

The beautiful folk-style painting depicts both the great history of Gull Lake Rotary Park as well as the activities that surround the park today.

The print is available to purchase at The Arts at The Albion and will be available for viewing at the merchandise table at every “Barge” concert this season. A coupon also appears in the “Barge” brochure informing patrons that 10% of the sale price will be donated to support Music on the Barge concerts. It’s a great way to purchase this fabulous reproduction of a wonderful painting and support the “Music on the Barge” concerts.

Mel and Lorraine Masters share the photo op with Mayor Donaldson and Councilors Calhoun and Jorgenson. — at Ryde Community Co-op Inc.

The Mayors 2nd Annual Ride Through MuskokaThe weather was perfect for the 2nd Annual Mayors Motorcycle Ride that toured through the District of Muskoka on Saturday July, 19. The group raised over $2000 that will be divided between ‘Music on the Barge’ and the Supper Club.

Riders loved the route and the fact that it was a feet up ride. (Police escort through all intersections). There were riders from Porcupine, Stayner, Barrie and all across Muskoka. It is hoped that this will become an annual ride for charity in cooperation with the Mayor and Town of Gravenhurst and possibly grow into a show and shine.

Mayor Donaldson did a wonderful job leading the procession as the group passed through various communities they were greeted with friendly waves and horn honking in support of the cause. Thank you to all participants and organizers of this enjoyable day-see you next year!

How about a new look this summer? There's a great new stylist on the block! Eva Beasley of 'Cutting Edge Hair Design' was given the official welcome to the downtown on June 26, from the Mayor and the Gravenhurst BIA. Mayor Paisley Donaldson and Councillors Heidi Lorenz and Randy Jorgensen
