MAYWOOD PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER No. 1 Tiger Drive P.O. Box 46 Maywood, NE 69038 Phone (308) 362-4223 Website: www.maywoodtigers.org The school year is moving along at a fast pace. The calendar has flipped over to November and Thanks- giving is fast approaching. That also means that the Nebraska weather is changing. Depending on the day it may be seasonably warmer, or winter weather could be here before we know it. We would like to let you know the protocol that may cause late starts, early outs, and school closings. When winter weather hits, we monitor it closely. If a storm moves in overnight, we go out and check the roads and make a decision. The decision to have regularly scheduled classes, a late start, or close school for the day is made before the buses leave the school parking lot. If the winter weather hits when school is in session, we will again monitor the situation closely to determine if classes should continue regularly, or if we should issue an early dismissal. In all situations, we will be using our automated calling system to notify school families. The calling system is set-up so that you can receive a phone call, text or email, or all three. If you need to update contact information for the automated system please contact the school office at 308-362-4223. In addition to the automated system, the school weather information will be broadcast on local television, radio channels and the school social media accounts. In all early dis- missals and late starts, buses will run accordingly. In closing, I want to wish all of the Maywood School Families a Happy Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays; it reminds us to celebrate with thanks and count our blessings. So many things become little when we realize how lucky we are to have what we have. I am thankful to be around such great students, staff, and school families here at Maywood Public Schools. I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving with family and friends. The school year is moving along at a fast pace. The calendar has flipped over to November and Thanks-

giving is fast approaching. That also means that the Nebraska weather is changing. Depending on the

day it may be seasonably warmer, or winter weather could be here before we know it. We would like to

let you know the protocol that may cause late starts, early outs, and school closings.

When winter weather hits, we monitor it closely. If a storm moves in overnight, we go out and check the

roads and make a decision. The decision to have regularly scheduled classes, a late start, or close

school for the day is made before the buses leave the school parking lot. If the winter weather hits when

school is in session, we will again monitor the situation closely to determine if classes should continue

regularly, or if we should issue an early dismissal. In all situations, we will be using our automated calling

system to notify school families. The calling system is set-up so that you can receive a phone call, text or

email, or all three. If you need to update contact information for the automated system please contact the

school office at 308-362-4223. In addition to the automated system, the school weather information will

be broadcast on local television, radio channels and the school social media accounts. In all early dis-

missals and late starts, buses will run accordingly.

In closing, I want to wish all of the Maywood School Families a Happy Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is

one of my favorite holidays; it reminds us to celebrate with thanks and count our blessings. So many

things become little when we realize how lucky we are to have what we have. I am thankful to be around

such great students, staff, and school families here at Maywood Public Schools. I want to wish everyone

a Happy Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Maywood FFA News

By Karlie Gerlach, Maywood FFA Reporter

“I placed this class of market lambs 4-2-3-1.” On November 8th, the Maywood FFA Chapter sent 16 members to participate in livestock judging and the agriscience contest. For livestock judging, eight members ribboned in the contest. In Agriscience, two members ribboned. The next date that members will travel to Curtis is December 13th for District Leadership Development Event’s. Until then, members participating in LDE’s will prepare for their con-test. Last month, members got together to give back to some of the most hardworking people in this country. They fed around a total of 100 farmers and their crews in the area. This is the chapter’s biggest community service event and one of the most important.

SCHOLARSHIP BLOODMOBILE

The bloodmobile will be held at the Maywood Community Hall on December 7 from 12 to 6 p.m. All donors are wel-

come. You can make an appointment online or call the school at 362-4223. Walk-ins are always welcome. The

more blood donations we receive, the more scholarship money we earn for graduating seniors.

Elementary Student Council Happenings

The Elementary Student Council had great success on the coat and mitten drive during October! The goal was to collect 100 items and they achieved beyond that by collecting over 135 items. We will still have The Walking Club every Friday from around 11:25-11:45 and have enjoyed parents, firemen, veterans, and other visitors as well! We will continue to walk unless the wind chill and temperatures change our plans! It's Nebraska weather!! Thank you to parents, families, and the community for supporting the Elementary Student Council.

MPS Christmas Concert

Fa La La Land, a musical, will be performed Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. by the Maywood Elementary students. The 6th grade band, 7th and 8th grade choir, High School choir and 7th—12th grade band will also perform.

The Preschool Winter Program will be at 6:00 p.m. in the lunch room on December 7th also.

Senior Citizen Christmas Dinner

Senior Citizen Christmas dinner will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at noon at Maywood Public School.

The menu consists of Sliced Ham, Augraten Potatoes, Green Beans and Dessert. The meal is $3.75. Please

RSVP to the school at 362-4223 by Monday, December 18th.

The Maywood FBLA and Student Council would like to thank everyone that participated in our Trunk-or-Treat

activity! Everyone had a fun time and gathered some tasty sweets.

Thank you to the Maywood Fire Department for taking time out of their busy schedules to teach our students

about Fire Safety!

Our past Art Education teacher, Mrs. Adrienne Johnson, organized another outstanding Veteran’s Day program

on November 10. Thank you Mrs. Johnson!

On November 13, 2017, our junior students had their ASVAB tests result interpreted. The ASVAB is a multiple

choice test, administered by the United States Military Entrance Processing Command, used to determine qualifi-

cation for enlistment in the United States armed forces. Our National Guard Recruiter conducted some of the in-

terpretation about the students’ test results and career exploration. Thank you National Guard and all Veterans!
