Characteristics of topics

Structure respects the challenge based approach

– 3 key features

• Specific Challenge

sets the context, the problem to be addressed, why intervention is necessary

• Scope

delineates the problem, specifies the focus and the boundaries of the potential action BUT without describing specific approaches

• Expected Impact

describes the key elements of what is expected to be achieved in relation to the specific challenge

H2020 – General

Reimbursement of actual costs as the main funding method

Single set of rules for all programmes in & related to H2020 (JTIs, Joint Programming, …)

Simplified list of possible types of action

“Negotiations” => “Grant Preparation”

© Euresearch

Simplified Funding Model

• 1 reimbursement rate by action (same rate for all beneficiaries and all

activities): Up to 100% for Research and Innovation actions

Up to 70% for innovation (non-profit entities up to 100%)

and programme co-fund actions

• 1 method for calculation of indirect costs: Flat rate of 25% of total direct costs, excluding subcontracting, costs of third

parties and financial support to third parties

If provided in WP, lump sum or unit costs

• Funding of the action not exceed total eligible costs minus receipts

© Euresearch

non-eligible costs: non-deductible VAT is eligible in H2020!

eligible costs: actual costs unit costs flat-rates lump sums

H2020 – New Rules: Costs

unchanged

specific cases, e.g. SME instrument

indirect costs: 25%

© Euresearch

H2020 – New Rules: Time Recording

fewer requirements for time recordsno time records for researchers working exclusively on

the project

simplified provisions on annual productive hours:

usual cost accounting practices

1’720 hrs standard=> no conditions=> no checks/justification in case of audit

choice of model must be coherent

Enterpreneurship – a spirit not a work

“If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea”

Antoine de Saint-Exupery
