MBA GAMES 2013January 4th-6th, 2013

The Canadian MBA Games began at Queen’s University in 1988. The Games were hosted by Queen’s for seven years before being hosted by McGill University in 1996, and the University of Western Ontario in 1997. Since then, the Games have typically been hosted by the winning school, and have been held across the country for the past 16 years. This annual event is the largest gathering of MBA students in Canada, and an opportunity to compete against, network with and learn from some of the best and brightest business leaders in the country.

At the 2012 MBA Games held in Edmonton, over 600 students represented MBA schools from across Canada, and competed in events to claim the champion title and take home the prestigious Queen’s cup.

The DeGroote MBA Games Team returned home with a clean sweep, winning first place in Academics, Athlet-ics and Spirit, earning the right to host the 2013 games at the DeGroote School of Business from January 4th-6th, 2013.

Schools compete in a series of academic, athletic, and spirit competitions, while enjoying a variety of network-ing events designed to challenge and stimulate Canada’s future business leaders. The MBA Games competition provides students an unparalleled opportunity to meet their fellow MBA’s from across Canada, creating a unique platform for companies to interact with students through networking events, academic cases and event sponsorship.

Each team has the opportunity to compete in 4 athletic events, 4 academic case competitions and various spirit events throughout the weekend. Points are awarded to all teams participating based on their performance. Points are tallied at the end of the weekend to determine which school takes home the Queen’s Cup.

The Academic Case Competition typically includes a finance case, marketing case, strategy case and operations case.

Athletic events in the past have included a range of sports from volleyball to water polo.

Spirit events are kept a secret until arrival at the games.

The City of Hamilton is so proud to be the site for the 2013 MBA Games, January 4-6, 2013. With a population of over 500,000, Hamilton, Canada’s 9th largest city sits in the middle of Ontario’s “Golden Horseshoe’, half-way between Niagara Falls and Toronto. Within a day’s drive or a 90 minute flight of Hamilton live 120 million people providing the city with strategic access to one of the largest markets in North America.

Hamilton has intriguing geographical features that include a large harbour, a lakefront and the Niagara Escarpment that weaves through the middle of the urban l landscape providing spectacular view and numerous waterfalls – we are know as the City of Waterfalls. Founded in 1846, Hamilton prospered as an industrial town. Today, the city has a diversified economy that includes a thriving advanced manufacturing base, the busiest port on the Great Lakes, leading healthcare services, emerging biotechnology industries and a large agricultural sector. Hamilton is also home to three post-secondary institutions, including McMaster University, Mohawk College and Redeemer University College.

ES The Ron Joyce Centre is the home of the DeGroote School of Business’

MBA and executive education programs. The facility and its programs form a hub for

academic and economic collaboration in Burlington and the Halton Region. It plays an

important role in building a knowledge economy, strengthening the local business environment and

attracting new investment to the community.

The RJC opened in September 2010. By 2013, the campus will have attained a steady state of enrolment with 700-800

students in the graduate and executive programs.

The Ron Joyce Centre - Burlington, ON

In keeping with DeGroote’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, the Ron Joyce Centre incorporates a number of environmentally conscious measures and is targeting a LEED rating of gold.

The David Braley Athletics Centre is one of the largest fitness centres at a Canadian university. The complex includes a double gymnasium, Certified indoor, 200-Metre Track, four international squash courts, and multipurpose studios for karate, yoga, dance and tai chi. A cornerstone of the Centre is the New Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre which includes an in-ground, salt water hydrotherapy pool, one of the few currently available in the country.
