ABOUT THE WARRIORSCorban University enters the weekend with a 13-11 overall record and is 5-7 in CCC play. Th e Warriors are seventh in the conference currently. Sophomore sensation, Jordan Carter, leads Corban. Th e Salem native is averaging 15.96 points and 3.26 assists per game. He is 13th in NAIA Div. 2 in three-point fi eld goal percentage (.459) and 26th in free throw percentage (.824). As a team, the Warriors are fi ft h in the country in free throw percentage (.744). Corban averages 7.9 three-pointers per game, and has made 190 shots from behind the perimeter this season, which is 10th in the country. Th e Warriors are holding opponents to 64.7 points per outing. James Green leads Corban with an average of 5.88 rebounds per game, while Erik Cronrath is averaging just over a block per contest.

THE LAST TIME OUTTh e Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team eased to a 109-63 victory over Th e Evergreen State College Saturday. Th e Mountaineers coasted to the victory behind double-digit scoring performances from six players. Mason Jones led EOU with 16 points. Th e sophomore was 6-of-9 from the fi eld, including 2-for-3 from behind the perimeter. Cody Th urmond had 11 points. Jamar Johnson, Jeff Ranstrom, John Buhler and Ervin Felder each scored 10 points. Jamier Morris threw a team season-high 14 assists. Kyllian Wood grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds, eight on the defensive end. Travares Peterson matched a career-high three steals. Eastern fi nished 50 percent from the fi eld, making 43 of its 85 attempts from the fi eld, both season highs. Th e Mountaineers were 59 percent from the fi eld in the second half. EOU hit nine of its 25 three-point attempts and 14 of its 17 free throw shots. Eastern Oregon had a 57 to 28 rebound advantage.

MOUNTAINEERS SLIDE IN POLLTh e Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team received three votes again this week in the NAIA Div. 2 Top 25, which was released Monday. Th e Mountaineers had a weekend split at home with then-ranked No. 11 Northwest University and Th e Evergreen State. EOU fell to Northwest, 61-57, but responded with a 109-63 victory over the Geoducks. Th e Cascade Col-legiate Conference has fi ve teams in the poll. Oregon Tech (22-3, 11-2) slid from No. 1 to No. 2 aft er falling at Concordia Friday, 81-66. OIT rebounded with a 78-69 win at Warner Pacifi c the following night. Th e Knights (18-5, 10-2) dropped from No. 8 to No. 10. Northwest (21-2, 11-2) remained No. 11 in the poll aft er grabbing its road sweep over Eastern Oregon and Th e College of Idaho. Southern Oregon is six spots out of the top 25.

ABOUT THE BEACONSNorthwest Christian University has a 10-14 overall record and a 3-9 Cascade Collegiate Conference record. Th e Beacons are holding onto the eighth and fi nal position in the CCC tournament at the moment. NCU has a half-game lead over Th e College of Idaho, and can sweep the regular season series against the Yotes with a win Friday. Th e Beacons are led by Jordan Buhler’s 11.09 points and six rebounds per game. Brian Hampton is throwing 2.58 assists per outing. NCU is ninth in NAIA Div. 2 in three-point fi eld goal percentage defense (.300). Northwest Christian is in the national top 25 in total blocks and steals so far this season. Jordan Myers is ninth in the country in assist to turnover ratio. Greg Shepard is 21st in the nation in blocks per game.

He averaged 23.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in the two victo-ries. Carter made 16 of his 32 attempts from the fi eld, shot 41 percent from behind the arc and made all 10 of his free-throw shots.

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Th e No. 23 Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team completed a home weekend sweep with a 79-64 win over Corban Univer-sity Saturday.

Th e Mountaineers (12-5, 5-3 Cascade Collegiate Con-ference) were led by Jamar Johnson’s 25-point perfor-mance. Th e senior has averaged 21.75 points in the past four games, scoring 25 or more in three of those games. Saturday, he made 11 of his 14 attempts from the fi eld. Johnson grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Eastern shot a season-high 56 percent from the fi eld, making 33-of-58 attempts. EOU also committed seven turnovers in the victory, a program-low in the past fi ve years. Th e Mountaineers made all of their seven free-throw attempts. Eastern Oregon has made 84 percent of its free-throws in the past fi ve games.

Anthony Brown added 14 points for the Mountaineers. Cody Th urmond scored 13 points and threw nine as

sists. Travares Peterson fi nished with 10 points.

Corban had the fi rst lead of the game, and led 6-5, two minutes into the game. But, aft er a Jeff Ranstrom basket put EOU up 7-6, the Mountaineers would not surrender the lead again in the game. Eastern led by as many as nine points in the fi rst half, 35-26, with 2:12 left in the period. EOU had a 37-32 halft ime advantage.

A three-pointer from Th urmond six minutes into the second half gave Eastern a 13-point lead, 54-41. Th e Mountaineers had their largest lead of 17 twice in the second half.

Jacob Kopra recorded a career-high 24 points to lead Corban. He was 8-of-11 from the fi eld. Erik Cronrath added 14 points and three assists. Jordan Carter had a team-high seven rebounds. Th e Warriors (12-5, 5-3) were 40 percent from the fi eld, 7-for-26 from three-point range, and 13-of-18 from the free-throw line. Corban outrebounded EOU, 32-29.

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Th e No. 23 Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team knocked off Northwest Christian University Friday, 82-60.

Th e Mountaineers (11-5, 4-3 Cascade Collegiate Conference) needed a late run to pull away from upset-minded NCU. Eastern won for the 27th time out of the last 30 games in Quinn Coliseum during the regular season, but it was far from easy.

Northwest Christian held a lead and did not surrender it from the 16:18 mark to the 5:06 mark of the fi rst half. Th e Beacons led by as many as four points during the stretch, and the game tied four times during the time span as well.

Trent Roos gave Eastern Oregon a 26-25 lead aft er three straight free throws with 5:06 left in the fi rst half. Th e Mountaineers’ lead grew to four points twice before the half. EOU had a 36-33 halft ime advantage.

Two minutes into the second half, Brody McGowan gave the Beacons a 39-38 lead with a lay-in. A Travis Pacos’ lay-in two minutes later put NCU ahead, 43-40. Northwest Christian had its fi nal lead with 15:47 remaining in regulation, 43-42. Eastern went on a 23-6 run that began to create the fi nal margin in the game.

Roos led all scorers with 19 points. Th e junior was 4-for-

8 from behind the arc and 7-of-7 from the free-throw line. Travares Peterson had his second career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Ervin Felder and Cody Th urmond each had 12 points.

Eastern Oregon had a 40-25 rebound advantage, and forced 22 turnovers. Th e Mountaineers committed 14 turnovers. EOU shot 43 percent from the fi eld, 7-of-20 from behind the arc, and 19-for-22 from the free-throw line.

Th e Mountaineers turned NCU’s 22 turnovers into a 23-10 points off of turnovers advantage. Eastern also had a 17-7 second-chance points advantage and a 31-8 bench-point advantage.

Th e Beacons (8-10, 1-5) were led by Jordan Buhler’s 18 points. Th e sophomore made six of his 10 shots from the fi eld. Pacos added 12 points. Buhler, Pacos, and McGowan each grabbed four rebounds. Pacos and McGowan each threw four assists. Northwest Christian was 50 percent from the fi eld, 3-of-13 from three-point range, and 9-for-16 from the free-throw line.

Eastern had a 48-28 rebound advantage, 44-26 points in the paint advantage, and 10-2 fast break points advan-tage. Evergreen fi nished with 16 turnovers, while EOU committed 15.

BASKETBALL HAS WEEKLY SHOWTh e Eastern Oregon University basketball programs will have their own radio talk show on Monday’s 12-1 p.m. on KUBQ 98.7 FM. Moun-taineer fans can tune into 98.7 FM and listen to EOU basketball analysis, game recaps, game pre-views, and interviews with coaches and players. Th e whole hour is devoted to Eastern Oregon women’s and men’s basketball.

LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARIESEastern Oregon is one of four teams to have made it to the past four second rounds at the NAIA Div. 2 National Tournament. Two pro-grams in those four, Oregon Tech and EOU, are from the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Th ere are only 10 teams that have made the national tournament in each of the past four seasons, including Eastern Oregon.
