Cascade Collegiate Conference championships with an 83-73 win over No. 23Northwest University. The Mountaineers extended the conference’s longest win streak tonine games. Eastern shot 58 percent from the field in the first half, including 8 of 14from behind the perimeter. EOU held Northwest to 27 percent shooting from the field,and 1 for 7 from three-point range. The Mountaineers had their largest lead of the gameat 62-39. EOU finished with five players in double figures led by three players with 15points. Jason Mumm, Brown, and McCarthy each had 15 points. Brown was 3 of 4 frombehind the arc, McCarthy was 5 for 7 from three-point range, and Mumm added sixrebounds. Cody Thurmond had 13 points and Travares Peterson chipped in 10.
ABOUT THE CCC TOURNAMENTTop-seeded Oregon Tech used an incredible second half run to cruise past
sixth-seeded Corban University in the semifinals, 90-63. Joseph Foster and BrentJohnson combined for 34 points. OIT led by only three at halftime, but stretched themargin behind 74 percent shooting from the field in the second half. The second-seed,Eastern Oregon, clinched the conference’s other automatic bid to the national tourna-ment with an 83-73 win over fourth-seeded Northwest University.

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 7 Oregon Tech men’s
basketball team won the NAIA Div. 2 National Game of the
Week at Eastern Oregon University, 93-80.
The Owls (19-2) (10-0) in front of an electric atmosphere
and a near sellout crowd, won their 13th straight game and
ended its five year losing streak at Eastern Oregon. A 29-
game conference regular season home winning streak
came to an end as well for EOU. Kyle Gomez and Joseph
Foster each scored 20 points to pace OIT. Gomez added a
game-high 11 rebounds, and Foster threw a team-high four
assists. Brent Johnson scored 18 points and Scotty Riddle
had 13 points.
Eastern led 73-72 with 5:33 left in regulation, but the Owls responded with a 15-0 run over the
next 2:07 to give OIT the cushion it needed. The Mountaineers made only one of their final 16
shots from the field in the last five minutes of play. That included 14 straight misses over a four
and a half minute span. Tech outscored EOU, 18-7, in the final five minutes.
Oregon Tech’s 93 points were the most points given up by EOU since a 105-101 win at Cascade
College on Jan. 24, 2009. It was also the most given up at home by Eastern since a 104-100 win
over Evergreen State College. The Owls completed a regular season sweep over Eastern
Oregon, a first since the 2004-05 season. OIT won the Dec. 17 meeting in Klamath Falls, 89-78.
The second and third best teams in three-pointers made per game in NAIA Div. 2 squared off in
the game. Oregon Tech entered with an average of 9.8 per game and EOU averaged 9.7. Friday
the Owls were 9 of 23 and Eastern was 10 of 34. It was the fifth time this season EOU has
attempted over 30 three-pointers in a game.
The Dec. 17 matchup between Eastern Oregon and Tech featured 13 ties and seven lead
changes. In Friday’s back-and-forth battle there were 11 ties and 17 lead changes. EOU led by as
many as four points five times in the first half, including a 46-42 advantage at halftime.

its first conference game at No. 13 Oregon Tech, 89-78.
In a game that featured a pair of top 15 teams in NAIA Div. 2, it lived up to its billing and kept the
large crowd on the edge of their seats. The back and forth battle featured 13 ties and seven lead
changes. The game stayed within one or two possessions through much of the game.
The Mountaineers (11-2) (3-1) had their largest lead a little over a minute into the game at 6-2.
Tech’s largest lead in the first half was 42-37 with 1:22 until halftime. The Hustlin’ Owls led 44-40
at the half.
Three minutes into the second half OIT stretched its lead to 53-44 after a Joseph Foster jumper.
The Owls led for the first six minutes of the second half until Eastern tied the game at 57 after a
Jamar Johnson three-pointer. A Thomas McCarthy three-pointer with 10:07 left in regulation gave
the Mountaineers their only lead of the second half, 65-64.
Tech stretched its lead at the end of the game by scoring its final six points from the free throw
line. Eastern’s last basket was a free throw from JC Cook with 2:28 left in the game. EOU’s last
field goal came from Johnson with 4:57 left to play.
The Mountaineers have been outrebounded in only two games this season, both were their loss-
es. OIT finished with 35 rebounds to Eastern’s 34. Tech had a big advantage on the offensive
rebounds stat category. The Owls grabbed 16 rebounds on the offensive end that turned into 24
second chance points.
Brent Johnson finished with a game-high eight rebounds to lead Oregon Tech (12-2) (4-0). Kyle
Gomez scored a game-high 28 points. He shot 8 of 14 from the field, including 6 of 7 from behind
the perimeter. Foster scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half. Brent Johnson and Matt Smith
scored 11 and 10 points respectively.
The game featured the top two teams in NAIA Div. 2 in three-point field goal percentage. Eastern
Oregon was 12 for 22 from behind the arc, 54 percent, and OIT was 9 of 24, 37 percent.

A TRUE HOME COURT ADVANTAGEOregon Tech’s 3,000 seat Danny
Miles Court has become one of the hardestplaces to play in the NAIA for visiting oppo-nents. The court, named after its currentrecord-setting coach, owns a 55-game homewin streak. The last team to beat OIT inKlamath Falls was Evergreen State on March1, 2008, 93-76, in the CCC tournament semifi-nals. Eastern is 63-7 in its past 70 games athome, Oregon Tech is 67-3. EOU made itsfirst trip to Klamath Falls in 1950.
CASCADE COLLISIONThe Mountaineers and Oregon Tech
have had battles over the last few years. The160th meeting between the Oregon Institute ofTechnology men's basketball team andEastern Oregon University will feature a pairof top 25 teams for only the 10th time. He trails only Harry Statham ofMcKendree (Ill.), the only coach in collegebasketball history to record over 1,000 wins.Miles is 61-17 against EOU all-time.

son strong the past few seasons. EOU hasgone 22-3 in the month of February the pastthree years. Oregon Tech is 22-4 in Februarythe past two seasons. TOP 25 STREAK CONTINUESThe Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team
climbed to No. 11 in the NAIA Div. 2 Top 25. The Mountaineersclimbed two spots after finishing the regular season with a pair ofvictories at then-ranked No. 18 Northwest University last Fridayand Evergreen State the following night. EOU received 270points in the poll, 18 more than last week. Eastern rides thelongest winning streak in the Cascade Collegiate Conference,seven games, into the postseason. Eastern appears in the Top25 for a school-record 21st straight time. The Mountaineers havebeen in the Top 25 in 27 of the last 28 polls. EOU has been inthe Top 25 in every poll dating back to last season’s preseasonpoll on Oct. 26 when it received votes. The Mountaineers hadtheir best preseason ranking in the 2008-09 season when theystarted at No. 6. EOU climbed to No. 3 in the national poll thatseason, the highest in school history.
