In 2008, MCCC Board of Directors honored Verl Zanders by renaming the Emerging Business of the Year Award. Verl Zanders was an extraordinary mentor to small business owners. He used the power of his example to inspire others to succeed. Verl’s company Z-Tech received the Emerging Business of the Year Award in 2006. Prior to founding Z-Tech, Verl worked for more than 30 years in the Federal government as a contracting officer and as a small business representative. In 2008, on the 50th Anniversary of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, the Montgomery County Chamber Community Foundation (MCCCF) was launched as an independent 501(c)(3) organization. The Foundation is proud to support educational initiatives to enhance our community and beyond.

MCCCF created and manages The National Center for Veteran Institute for Procurement (VIP) - the country’s first-ever program to train veteran service-disabled and veteran owned small businesses to succeed in the federal contracting market. Today, it is a true public private partnership with support from Montgomery County, the State of Maryland and U.S. Small Business Administration to supplement private sector contributions.
