Upon his election to the role of speaker, Carl Heastie proclaimed, “…A New York State that prospers for all” but was recently quoted as saying his current priorities were, “rent, rent, rent and more rent”. “Leadership in the Assembly is misguided if they think that rent control is a top priority for Long Island residents,” McDonough said. “We have some of the highest property taxes in the nation right here in Nassau County and it would be prudent to include the needs of Long Island residents as we close out this year’s session. Tying a permanent property-tax cap to a rent control extender would help alleviate the financial woes of families in New York City as well as the rest of the state. With only hours left in this year’s session, I am calling on legislative leaders to stick to their promise of a New York that prospers for all.” ###

McDONOUGH: ASSEMBLY DEMS PUSH RENT CONTROL, LONG ISLAND NEEDS TAX CONTROL

Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) today criticized legislative leaders for their narrow-minded policy that exclusively focuses on extending rent control in New York City. Upon his election to the role of speaker, Carl Heastie proclaimed, A New York State that prospers for all but was recently quoted as saying his current priorities were, rent, rent, rent and more rent.

Leadership in the Assembly is misguided if they think that rent control is a top priority for Long Island residents, McDonough said. We have some of the highest property taxes in the nation right here in Nassau County and it would be prudent to include the needs of Long Island residents as we close out this years session. Tying a permanent property-tax cap to a rent control extender would help alleviate the financial woes of families in New York City as well as the rest of the state. With only hours left in this years session, I am calling on legislative leaders to stick to their promise of a New York that prospers for all.###
